It has come to my attention recently that some people here are really taking advantage of new traders entering this community and it deeply saddens me. And I should add, these aren't people who you think would do this by any stretch of the imagination. I realize this probably will not change the way this trader operates, but I'd like to shed light on this situation and maybe get others on board to help instead of hinder a new trader's experience.

I think it's in this communities best interest to help along newbies by advising them of their mistakes and maybe even giving them a bit of a better deal in the end instead of so blatantly giving them the short of the stick only for the purpose of furthering your collection. It really casts a bad light on pin trading in general and it makes newbies fall behind and sometimes I bet they'd quit because there collection and trading just isn't working out.

And for the people ripping off new traders, ask yourself: how would you feel if someone did that to you when you first started?

Thanks for reading and let's be more considerate of others.

I'll agree with this.

Do unto others as you would like them to be donw unto you. :-)

This is what I try. :-)

I've found that karma in the pin world is a bit faster than normal karma- so the more good done onto others, the more likely you are to turn around and find the pin you're after, too.

Thanks for posting this, Scotty!

This isn't about people sending outrageous offers directly. It's about people using a trader's new-ness to take advantage. It's a whole new level of low.

I second, third and fourth this. :-)

I was one that almost ran for the hills. I think the more I looked in to trading the madder I got at people's rudeness. The point of a trade is that you both are happy! Not left feeling like you were wronged. Hidden mickeys shouldn't hold such high value in my opinion. Lots of people new to trading end up loosing good pins to them. Its not right or fair. But "bottomfeeders" is a bit harsh. Maybe they need to be renamed the ones that shall not be mentioned:anxious:

it is harsh but thats exactly what they do they trade hms for high les and its not fair to newbies or anyone for that matter.they give traders a bad rap,new traders should be treated w the same respect and courtesy seasoned traders are.the golden rule needs to be established again.

This is what has always worked for me since I was a wee little girl and it is amazing how well it works in the world as an adult:

The Girl Scout Law
I will do my best to be
honest and fair,
friendly and helpful,
considerate and caring,
courageous and strong, and
responsible for what I say and do,
and to
respect myself and others,
respect authority,
use resources wisely,
make the world a better place, and
be a sister to every Girl Scout.

I'm new here and have been offered some really unequitable trades. Luckily, I have met some great, more experienced pin friends that I run my trades by if I am not sure. My advice to newbies is to establish some good pin friends and ask them for help if you are unsure. I also want to add how generous some DPF members are. It truly makes being part of pin trading more fun!

It's cool that you changed it and added it to your about me. Now since you are a Graphic Designer maybe you can make us a Pin Scout Logo to put in our Signatures, please.

Also I just love the photo of you on your Profile, very fun!

It's not only the new people being sharked. I think some people will only trade if the trade is way better for them. I sent out a trade request for an open edition pin with 20 trading and 26 wanting and one person replied wanting me to trade the new LE Classic D Haunted Mansion pin instead. I had offered an LE cast member pin in the original trade. Grrrr....

For those of you who are new to the site, here's a quick reminder of what Pin Shark looks like. Just imagine this guy sitting at his computer.

And yes, lets be courteous and fair to ALL pin traders, be they new or old. This is a fun hobby and we shouldn't have to worry about people being scammed out of their pins. If you ever feel pressured to make a trade to someone, take a step back and think about it. If you want a quick opinion, there's always people in the chat room who are happy to help. And if you get an offer for a trade, don't be snarky (don't know if that's a real word, but meh) and respond politely. No need to be rude either.

Lets keep Pin Trading Fun!

As a new trader thanks for this thread!

I have reached out to try and complet some sets and have goten some (what I believe at least) outrages counter trade offers. It has made me just stop looking for trades and be content and buying and trading the 1 time a year I get to WDW.

Love the forums and keep looking out to the new guys like me!
