The perfect distance between DLR and DSF.
Disney Soda Fountain and Studio Store is no longer in existence . The Merchandise part of the store is now called "Disney Studio Store". The current PTD's still have the DSF logo in back of the pins. Once the DSF PTD pin run is fully released, the new logo on the back of the pin will have the same backing of the .

It will not be known until the Frozen release if the backing will state DSF of DSS? With a 3 month turnaround from pin thought to release date, there may be a few more releases with the "old" logo.

As current of November 15, 2013, pins should be named GSF for Pin Trading Sundaes (PTS) for listing and Ghirardelli Soda Fountain will soon be added to destination hopefully in Pinpics in the tags section of their destination. For Disney Studio Store, Pinpics will soon add the tags in their listings to DSS and Disney Studio Store to their destination.


I think once everyone is on the same page, the confusion of names and listings and searches will become normal again.

We've hashed this out a handful of times already, not sure why you're all the sudden the expert that is telling us what to call it. There is no way they will stamp Ghiradelli on the back of any DSS pins. PTS's are going to remain as DSS pins. The only reason the Grand-Opening pin had Ghiradelli stamped on the back was because it depicted the sign on the front. GSF is selling DSS pins (PTS's) but PTS's are stilled designed by DSS and the money for them goes to DSS. The cost of the Sundae goes to GSF. They are not "GSF" pins.

ALL old "DSF" pins are now "DSS" pins. The Grand-Opeining pin was still a DSS pin, they just had to put (c) Ghiradelli becasue of the name on the front. Just like all the other pins listed in other threads. (c)Fiat for Luigi/Guido pins, (c) AntFarm for Cars Land pins with the Cadillac Ranch, (c) LucasFilm Ltd for old Star Wars pins, (c) Amblin for Roger Rabbit pins, (c) A.A.Milne for Pooh Pins.

But all those pins are not listed as being from them, they are listed as from DSF, or DLR, or WDI or wherever they came from.
 
:) Why dont we all just hold off on what to call the darn things until we see some backstamps from releases that do not include ghiridelli as part of the pin design?

I call the place GSF because ghiridelli is the big name on the front sign, not disney. It is also a small change that most folks can comfortably accept.

I would merrily call it DSSH instead, but thats a mouthful AND a huge change from "GSF." Disney Studio Store hollywood makes sense. We call the disney store in new york DSNY, and San Francisco is DSSF... Since Studio is in the name of the store, it should be included in the abbreviated title, "DSSH." As well as the city!!! but I think most folks are just going to call it DSH.... Calling it JUST DSS will eventually cause issues, what if they open another Disney Studio Store? DSSH or DSH should be what pinpics or any other database adds to the catagories.

PTD's are now officially called Pin trader Sundaes.... so PTS makes sense for future database entry and categorizing. Weather those PTS pins have ghiridelli on the backstamp is a question to be debated. Mark, I agree, they likely will NOT have ghiridelli on the backstamps for future PTS releases, however they ARE being marketed as GWP for a ghiridelli sundae, which means ghiridelli MAY want to have their name on it.
 
"Disney Studio Store" is unique. Those other stores were "Disney Store New York." Not "Disney Studio Store New York." The only other store with "Studio" was the "Walt Disney Studio Burbank" which is "WDSB."
 
Thanks Mark. That is why I posted this in Pin Discussion so people can "discuss". I put it as a means to open discussion. I assume well see what happens with the releases.

I just spoke with Adi and everything is DSS. With the partnership, she actually has to see what will happen with the back stamps.


As far as today's chat, all pins and PTS's should be listed as DSS.
 
I haven't participated in any nomenclature discussions before I guess I see it as

Traditionally released Pins (sold at main cash registers).... PTS (sold at Ghirardelli Counter).... El Capitan Ticket pins (box office w/ ticket purchase)​

D23 pins get sold through DisneyStore.com but that doesn't make them DS.com pins. It's just a distribution point. So just because a PTS is sold at the Ghirardelli cash register doesn't make it a Ghirardelli pin.

Now, if Ghirardelli decides that they love pins so much that they develop their own line of Disney/Ghirardelli pins that they sell at the counter in Hollywood, the location in DCA and the location at WDW. Then the introduction of a GSF category would be warranted.
 
Again, I have to agree. Why is everyone stressing over this? There are over 100 pins in Pinpics called PTD's. If we start calling them something else, will there be a cross reference so all the pins show up if we choose a group? As someone else mentioned.....they are pin trader pins and the ice cream is a delight to eat. I say leave it alone.

I think I'm just getting into the habit of calling the new business venture "Soda Fountain" because people know what you mean when you say those two words. Additionally, there's no reason why the acronym has to be three letters. Heck, you can even say "Hollywood" and Disney pin collectors will know what you're talking about.

And although we now know it as "Disney Studio Store," another thing to consider is future pins may continue to be stamped with "Disney Soda Fountain" on the back of the pin because the business license may continue to be "Disney Soda Fountain" but their DBA (doing business as) name is "Disney Studio Store." I doubt it but you never know.

Regardless, Ghirardelli is just handing out a Disney pin when you buy their sundae and "Ghirardelli" or the letter "G" is probably not the direction to take regarding the naming and classification of pins. Adi and the rest of the Studio Store team are still cast members, they are still getting paid by Disney, and they are still in control of anything related to pins.

And I agree with Angel and Sue. PTDs forever!! :D
 
After being around pins for 13 years, a lot of what we think "everyone knows" disappears over time. I could rattle off a bunch of common knowledge terms from "back in the day" that would absolutely no meaning to people now. I think people have an expectation that what things are currently named are what people will refer to. That's why I shouldn't keep referring to a certain hotel as the Disneyland Pacific Hotel or Dixie Landings Resort or Disney-MGM Studios. Wouldn't you be really confused if every time you needed to find a brand new Hollywood Studios pin, you had to look it up or ask for it under a name that hasn't existed for years?

We're not at "years" yet, with this name change. But assuming that these pins continue to be produced, someday we will be. And new collectors will find it confusing when they go to the counter to order and the sign says Pin Traders Sundae, but yet no one calls it that.

GSF PTD is doubly wrong. They aren't GSF pins and they are called by DSS & GSF/CS "Pin Trader Sundae's" according to their sign, menu and their receipts. The ice cream is a GSF Sundae, the pin is a DSS Pin Trader something. PTD or PTS I don't really care. But it is not a "GSF" pin.

But it is NOT a PTD anymore. it is labeled Pin Trader Sundae. So it is PTS. Sorry, thats what I call them now. PTS. It's not a hard concept, calling the pin what it is. ;)

DSS, DSSH, DSH I dont care about that. Why bother speculating until we start seeing what Disney is putting on the backstamps of the releases in the future.
