Designer Princess collection... What should I do?

Hi everyone

So I have been struggling to complete a Designer Princess collection for about a year now. After tons of $$ and some great trades, I am now only missing one! (Ariel) However, with the prices climbing higher and higher, and my wallet getting hungrier and hungrier, I am starting to feel discouraged. :dunno:
Ariel is actually one of my least favorite pins in the set, and with her price tag usually being around $600+ I just don't know that I have the motivation to complete this collection anymore. I just bought a new house and have less of a pin budget, and I know any trades I try to make for her will probably be insanely difficult.

So my question is, what would you do?
I am a bit of a completist, so if I decide not to chase after Ariel, I would be selling/trading the set I have worked so hard to acquire, keeping my favorites of course, (Jasmine, Rapunzel, Mulan)

So should I give up? Move on to other grails that are not as popular and expensive? Trade them? Trade auction them? Sell them? Or should I keep fighting the good fight and see what the future holds?

All your thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading!
 
set aside the collection and wait for a bit. Either the right price will happen, or the right trade will come along. Eventually, you will get it.

I know being 1 away is frustrating. I am only missing the pink Centaurette to complete my set, and it drives me batty not getting it. But it will eventually fall into your lap. Patience. Some people wait years to get that last pin for a set or series.
 
If you are not a fan of Ariel then move on, their are so many other great pins out there to collect. You can sell the others to continue to work on your house or as you will probably do buy some more pins.
 
Normally I would say to keep on, you're so close, but when the prices get higher and it's harder and harder to finish it kind of leaves the whole set as a bitter taste you know? I would trade/sell my ones that weren't important to me as you could put those in your other collections, and just move on to easier/happier thoughts :3


These would definitely give you some money for pins/trading again too!
 
I think you should hold onto it and just take a step back from it for now.

also, if you come to the Disneyana meeting will you bring them? I've never seen one in person before.
 
It seems like you are feeling "all-or-none" right now in that if you can't have a complete set, why have any of the set (minus your favorites)? I say since the prices are rising higher and higher and you seem iffy (clearly you're iffy if you have this make this thread) why don't you keep the set. The thing is, if you end up selling the set now and prices keep rising for all the pins, it'll be even harder to get them in the future if you regret it. However, if the prices keep rising and you don't sell them but decided to sell them a year from now, you'll get more money for the pins too.

So if I were you, I'd definitely keep them. I know it might be difficult to only be missing one pin, but I've been missing the Tangled WDI Thrill pin for months now and I'm okay with that. I know one day I'll get it and likewise you will with Ariel too. It's fine if she isn't a priority, just know you'll get her one day.
 
Us, I'd hold on to them, wether u want to persue Ariel or not....if u decide to try for her, try putting some trade requests out there, sometimes these have to be a little in the other persons favour to get a desired pin, but it depends how much u want her...if not either wait until u have more money, maybe put a little by each month, even if only a few dollars each week or month, it will soon mount up, and then maybe try and purchase her if ur intent on completing the set...maybe create a wants thread on here, someone may give u the option to part trade part buy?

failing that, as Kupo said they'll only appreciate in value so hold on to them for a rainy day....
 
as much as we'd like to say, trade them off and trade us the Belle (as if we had anything good for it!!), we say keep them! It's frustrating, but you'll get it eventually
 
I'd say think about it. Don't sell or trade the pins you don't want until you are positive you don't want the designer collection. If you don't like the Ariel pin, I wouldn't waste the money trying to buy it or doing an insane trade to get it. If you do decide to get rid of the DP pins you don't want, see if you need the extra cash they would bring in before you sell or trade them. You could get some of your most wanted pins for those pins but if you're short on cash, it might be better to sell them.
 
Put them aside for a while and think about it ...and when I say "a while" I don't mean a month or two. We all love to complete sets, but we're talking about 10 LE150 pins with INSANE trade/want ratios, and you're discouraged that you only have 9 of them after 1 year?? It actually sounds like you've come a long way baby!
 
Put them aside for a little. I totally understand your frustration, I'm short 3. The prices are annoying, trying to trade for them is annoying... it can be a really frustrating collection. But when they're all together, they look great. So don't give up!!
 
I am short 4 of completing my set with Ariel being the #1 pin I am looking for. She is actually my favorite of the set with Snow White coming in second. I have almost had her so many times I could scream and every single time she falls through. It has been so frustrating. I have tried everything short of more recently forking out the $600 for her which I just can not do. It does feel hopeless but with her being my fave and my #1 grail pin right now I keep trying. If she is the only one you need I would just hold out and try in some way to get her but since she is not one of your faves I would not be in any rush or break the bank to try and do it.
 
i have the Ariel designer(actually two, mine and my ex) am not interested on selling it but maybe i would trade it, but i am looking for pins like these... not just one, but at least 2 or a fair combination since that ariel designer is very hard to get... so if anybody wants to make a deal i can trade it for a combination of these grails... hope you all having a great day...
 


Man, and of course I only have one of those, the stained glass one. Figures! Always a bit short. LOL

It's not so much that I'm frustrated with only having the one left... I'm actually very pleased and really appreciate all the help from people here on the forum My beef is with her price and how little I care for that particular pin. Actually just how much I've spent on the set in general makes me a bit sick, lol. I appreciate everyone's feedback! You guys have made some great points.
 
Alyssa don't give up! I was feeling like that when I needed Mulan only. I was patient (it was really hard) and actually got it for a good deal! It's just one! you have a lot of good pins.. maybe you can sell some and buy Ariel with that $$
