I'm not sure everyone sees the announcements at the top of the forum page, and I thought this one needed to be pointed out.

http://disneypinforum.com/showthread.php?40-Sales-Forum-Marketplace-General-Rules

New rules/expectations regarding feedback and prices in the Marketplace.

  • Payments - Starting October 1st, 2013, all prices posted in the sales forum are to reflect a price that includes PayPal seller fees if so desired. Starting October 1st, all transactions should be done as a payment for goods instead of a gift, unless privately discussed between seller and buyer. Please Note: All transactions done as GIFTS do not offer ANY form of buyer protection via PayPal and are done at the buyer's own risk!
  • Unresolved Trades & Purchases - Starting immediately, if a trade/purchase goes past the 30 day mark and you have not received the item, or any form of customs number for international shippings, we recommend leaving feedback that properly reflects the situation, i.e. negative. If the situation is resolved after feedback is left, it can be altered if requested by the one who left it.

yup. saw it. They didnt really change anything there, just made it more clear. prices should always have been listed, and if you wanted to add fees to anyone paying as goods it should have always been posted. Paypal pay as gift never has been safe for buyers. Partly why in general I tell all my buyers to pay as goods.

as to neg feedback, I am glad they made it a bit more clear. I was never sure if/when to leave the neg feedback, or if i should be contacting a mod before or after I do that. This is a good clarification.

I like them. I am not a fan of paying as a "gift". I will frequently pay gifts as goods and just pay the fee myself.

I saw it and agree with the added part 100%, though it caught me off guard that the last time the post was updated was February of last year. Probably because it was another mod who changed it...

oh my gosh, this makes me so happy. i've always been frustrated by the "please send as gift" thing, and it makes me super nervous >.< i'm so happy that i'll be able to stop having to deal with that now.

I give a choice. You can pay this amount or pay less as friends and family (gift) I let the buyer make the choice. Will this still be allowed?

So am I allowed to post this pin is $10 buyer pays fees or do I have to actually figure out the fees and post the full price?

I don't think you can just post "buyer pays fees". The wording is pretty clear: "Starting October 1st, all transactions should be done as a payment for goods instead of a gift, unless privately discussed between seller and buyer."

Just posting "buyer pays fees" wouldn't be a private discussion between seller and buyer. I think you have to ask the buyer if they're willing, and they have to agree. Otherwise the payment has to be as goods. But I don't think you have to calculate the EXACT fees; just estimate and round to what you're comfortable with. The fees are 3.4% according to the paypal website.

I think this can be confusing for the buyer. Depending on how you're sending money (website, mobile, app), PayPal uses different terminology and has different default settings. For example, on the app if you pick goods and services, the seller gets charged with the fees no matter what. On the website I believe there are different options and you can toggle who pays the fees.

There are websites you can you that can help you calculate fees. Just use Google.

Also, I believe that it's against paypal rules for sellers to charge buyers the paypal fees, since it's the seller's choice to use the paypal system, but not sure how everyone feels about that. Still, members of this forum have been very honest with me so I don't feel uncomfortable sending payment as gift. But, uncertain events could arise in a seller's life and having this added protection does help. Especially since this isn't Ebay.

How do you know how much extra you need to ask for an item when it needs to be payed by goods?
Because obviously, you want the total amount back for the item you purchased it for for someone, because I ask them to pay as gift, so I know I will get the right amount back.

What it really boils down to is if you are sending the funds in such a manner that removes ANY buyer protection from your transaction, it is not recommended, and we really do not want sellers listing items asking for the funds to be sent as a gift/without buyer protection/whatever way it is now. If you choose to do that privately via e-mail and/or PM, that is between the buyer and seller, but any price posted on the forums should take into account payment being sent as a purchase/transaction that has buyer protection built in. (not gift/family & friends - whatever they are calling it this month)

I do not know if it is against the rules anymore to specifically ask for the buyer to pay the fees, but if it is, there is still a very legitimate way to sell an item while taking the fees into account. Let's say I want to sell a pin for $20. I can do it one of two ways:

1) Sell it for the $20 as is, and the fees are taken out of that money when sent, OR

2) I can do some quick math ($.30 + ($20 x 2.9%) = $.88 and I list the pin at $21

Sales within the US:
2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction.

If you and the seller/buyer choose to negotiate a lower price, and possibly sending that as a gift/Family & Friends, etc, to avoid the fees; that is the call between the 2 users, and something we no longer recommend or endorse.

The goal of this is to make sure buyers on the site have some protection, because if a transaction has issues later on down the line, and the seller has not logged in for days/weeks/months, there is not a lot we as Mods/Admins can do that could help in the long run

I use Paypal fee calculator:

http://thefeecalculator.com/

This is really helpfully for people like me who look at numbers, mostly percentages and go AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! all I see is gn98*~&3gfzd5gfbjs!! lol
Thankyou for the link,

Mods maybe we could have that link stickeyed in the sale forum so everyone has easy acess to it if they want to sell but cant work out sums!

Thanks for that!
So if you wanna sell something for 20 $, you actually need to ask 20,90 $ so the fees are covered and you get the amount you need to get.

Actually, you need to ask for more because taking payment via PayPal goods means that you have to have a TRACKABLE means of shipping (as well as an online method to confirm delivery.) So, your international buyers will need to figure out whether they want to pay $10-20 EXTRA, on top of the costs of postage & cost of the pin.

From the USPS website:
http://faq.usps.com/adaptivedesktop/faq.jsp?ef=USPSFAQ

The only mail class that is trackable both here in the USA and internationally are Priority Mail Express International™ (PMEI) and Global Express Guaranteed® (GXG) items. That costs $45 to $100.

I've never used the Paypal app, but on the website, it does not let me toggle who pays the fees if I'm sending payment for goods or services. It says "seller will pay the fees" and there's no button to change that.

It does let me toggle who pays the credit card fees if I am paying by credit card. But those are different fees.

Bummer, sucks for me, means I can no longer sell here until the new year despite having the 7th highest feedback since I am at my limit for goods/services for the year in Paypal :/

I believe there's a limit if you don't set up a business account. If it's still a personal account, there's a limit that you can receive as goods. There's also a limit on how much you can withdraw at one time for certain accounts. That's all I remember, I don't know what the amount is though.
