Hi Everyone,

I know that we already have specific threads for the Disney Designer dolls but I noticed that due to how popular the threads were they have so many pages to go through and a lot of questions are repeated on the thread which would have been answered already in the past. So what I thought I would do was just make a new thread with as much information about the dolls so that people can just refer to this thread rather than having to sift through multiple pages looking for the answer.

So really this is more of an informative thread if that and will just be updated as more dolls and information are released.

Please note that due to the amount of information this is a very long post so I do apologise for that in advance however hope that you find it information. If there is anything else you believe should be included let me know.

Disney Designer Princesses (2011)

These dolls were the first in the designer line and was announced at the D23 2011 expo. You were able to preorder the set at the expo as well as purchase the exclusive silver Cinderella which had an edition size of only 250 worldwide.

This is the first and only designer set that has varying edition sizes amongst the dolls. Along with the dolls Disney released other items including a limited edition set of pins limited to 150 worldwide (exclusive only to the expo), a set of 10 mugs and journals each with a different princess design and various clothing, cosmetics and apparel with designer princess designs.

When released the dolls retailed at $59.50 plus tax (£60/€ ???) each with a presale of the entire set available at the expo for $595.00, the dolls were scheduled to be released one at a time every Monday starting from August 22 2011. However due to the popularity of the first five dolls (Cinderella, Ariel, Belle, Mulan and Snow White) and numerous complaints about the inability to purchase them the remaining five dolls Tiana, Jasmine, Rapunzel, Aurora and Pocahontas were released at the same time October 17 2011 in store and October 18 2011 online. It was during this release the term dollmageddon was coined due to issues with website consistently crashing and people trying for hours to get the dolls in the cart but not being able to due to the website malfunction.

In terms of edition sizes:

No link available as doll was exclusive to the Expo and was not available online. There are image links available from the Disney Store but no actual description page due to the doll not being available. Thanks to the Other Steve for the links.

On the secondary market Ariel is by far the most popular currently retailing at around $400 on average, however in terms of the pins, the most popular is Rapunzel selling at around the $700-800 mark.

Disney Designer Villains (2012)

The second in the designer series, this line was released in 2012 and is the first line to not feature the princesses. There was a little controversy with this line due to two characters, Ursula and the Queen of Hearts being re-imaged to thinner versions of their original characters. These dolls retailed at $79.50 plus tax (£50/€65) each with fewer dolls in the series having only 6 compared to the 10 in the previous series.

The 6 dolls released were:

Maleficent (from Sleeping Beauty)

Evil Queen (from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves)

Queen of Hearts (from Alice in Wonderland)

Ursula (from the Little Mermaid)

Mother Gothel (from Rapunzel)

http://www.disneystore.com/disney/s...talogFromSearch=10002&storeId=10051&N=1000259

Cruella de Vil (from 101 Dalmations)

http://www.disneystore.com/disney/s...talogFromSearch=10002&storeId=10051&N=1000259

Announced on the Disney Store blog on August 7 2012 these dolls were to be released one a week beginning September 10 in store and September 11 online. This was also the first line to have consistent edition sizes of 13,000 units each and in response to the issue with the previous princess designer line this line introduced the raffle system in store instead of a first come first serve basis. This was done in the hope that it would make things fairer for people so that large groups of friends/families that got in early would not be able to deplete the stock leaving none for other people.

The way the raffle works is that it commences at 1pm in store and in order to be included you would have to register before the raffle was drawn, registration generally opened an hour before the raffle so at 12pm. Please note this may change from store to store so it would be best to check the details with your local Disney Store. During the raffle they will call people’s names as they draw them out and in order to qualify to receive the doll the person must be there and is required to show ID to prove that that is in fact their name that was called.

Similar to the original line you were able to preorder the entire set but because there was no expo this year it was made available for preorder online instead.

However unlike the previous designer set the Villains set did not sell as fast with most people being able to purchase the doll both in store and online. The doll sales were so slow that five of them, Evil Queen, the Queen of Hearts, Ursula, Mother Gothel and Cruella De Vil were discounted. Only Maleficent sold out without having been discounted.

Similar to the previous designer line, this line was released with a set of mugs, journals, stationary, jewellery, clothing and apparel. There was also a set of pins released that was limited to 200 units worldwide.

On the secondary market the Maleficent appears to be the most popular and expensive out of the line, retailing at around $200-250.

Whist it was not necessarily considered a failure and it is not confirmed but it is believed that the main cause for the decrease in demand and slower sales of the Villains collection in comparison to the Princess collection was because of the higher price tag and the higher edition size.

Disney Fairytale Designer Collection (2013)

This is the first in the designer series to have two dolls in each set, therefore totalling 10 dolls but only 5 sets. It was also the first in the series to feature male dolls. The set retailed at USD$129.95 plus tax (£100/€120) each therefore being the most expensive of line in terms of set but cheaper per doll if compared against the villains at around $65 per doll.

Details of the series were released on the Disney Store blog on August 1 2013 and were previewed at the 2013 D23 Expo. Similar to the exclusive Cinderella at the 2011 expo this expo released an exclusive D23 gold Snow White and the Prince variant with an edition size of 600 worldwide.

The five sets available were:

Snow and the Prince (from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves)

Just like the Villains series the Fairytale set also has consistent edition sizes with each set having 6,000 units available worldwide. The sets were to be released every other Tuesday in store and every other Wednesday online starting from August 20. The dolls released were Snow White and the Prince, Rapunzel and Flynn, Jasmine and Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast and finally Ariel and Eric.

Similar to the previous designer line, this line was released with a set of mugs, journals, stationary, jewellery, clothing and apparel. There was also a set of pins released that was limited to 250 units worldwide.

The set was also available for preorder both online and at the expo for $649.75 and unlike with the designer princess line the pins were not exclusive to the expo but available at online as well. That being said the number of units of both the preorder set and the pin set that was available online was immensely smaller than what was made available at the expo.

The first three sets released, Snow, Tangled and Aladdin had relatively moderate and consistent sales gradually increasing the further into the series we went. However Belle sold out in a matter of minutes and is currently selling for around $400 on the secondary market therefore it is expected the that final Little Mermaid set will be the fastest to sell out and will probably retail the highest on the secondary market, due to the popularity and high expectations of the final set.

In terms of what is in stall for the future of the designer line, there is current speculation that because this current Designer Fairytale set omits characters such as Cinderella, Aurora and Tiana that the Designer set expected next year would be a “part 2” of the Fairytale set to include the remaining princesses that were missed this year.

However that being said nothing has been confirmed yet so we will have to wait until around August next year before we hear anything more concrete about the 2014 Designer Set.

Designer Fairies

Note: This is not the designer collection for the year, it is just a limited edition doll released to commemorate the release of the Tinkerbell movie the Pirate Fairy. The only thing that it shares with the designer dolls is the way that the dolls are displayed.

I believe that Disney released the dolls in this manner due to a 17" doll set probably being a little to big and excessive for Tinkerbell, also these designers do work out to be cheaper than the normal LE dolls.

So just to be clear they are not a designer collection but are LE dolls released in a designer format. The designer line for the year is not expected to be released until the end of the year.

These dolls retailed at $59.95 each plus taxes in the US and were released on February 18 in store and February 19 online in the US. The Euro market had the dolls released both in store and online on the same day, February 18. These are the first designer dolls to be based on fairies and whilst it does state on the boxes that they are part of a Designer Fairy collection there are only two dolls in the line so far. As to whether or not any future ones will be released is purely speculation at this point.

These are the first designer dolls released to commemorate a specific event in a similar way that the LE dolls are released and it is because of this that they are deemed a lot more similar to the LE doll release rather than a designer one. These dolls highlight the release of the Tinkerbell straight to DVD movie, the Pirate Fairy with both dolls being LE 4,000 and features Tinkerbell and Zarina (the pirate fairy and newest addition to the Disney fairies line up).

Designer Fairytale Collection Part 2 (2014)

Whilst it has not been announced yet there has been a lot of buzz around the fact that the next designer line will be the second lot of princesses to feature in a Designer Fairytale Collection. So this would include:
- Mulan and Shang
- Cinderella and the Prince
- Aurora and Prince Philip
- Pocahontas and John Smith
- Tiana and Naveen
