Disney Soda Fountain becoming Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Disney Studio Store?!
Sounds like all will be well.

As many of you may have learned, we have announced new plans for our soda fountain and studio store. Ghirardelli Chocolate Company will join us in Hollywood and operate a Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop and Disney Studio Store from our present location. Following a six week renovation, the store will reo
pen with a new look and all new furniture and fixtures. We have attached a copy of the press release with all of the details below.

The Disney Studio Store will proudly continue its pin releases and pin events. Ghirardelli will carry on many of the Store’s popular traditions, including the fabulous “Pin Traders Delight” sundaes; and they plan to expand the program to include more sundaes to give pin traders a choice of any of the sundaes on their world class menu.

During the period of time that the Soda Fountain is closed for remodeling, beginning on Sunday, September 29th, the collectible pin program will originate from the El Capitan Theatre, including pins celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas and others. Descriptions of the new pins and release dates will follow. Check our Disney Soda Fountain Facebook page for the latest information.

Grand Opening of New Ghirardelli® Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop
Set For Friday, November 15

This is good news for pin collectors/traders but I still feel sad for those workers who were laid off due to this new partnership.

I too feel badly for the workers that were laid off. I hope they get rehired or find something else quickly.

I really hope someone sees this as an opportunity to provide a better quality pin product and to increase the LE sizes. The pin quality, of late, has been really lacking and should be something one would find on open edition rack pins; not low LE pins.

Some dark part of me was hoping that DSF pins had ridden off into the sunset and that it was one less pin source to worry about. But I guess no one is going to knowingly slaughter that cash cow.

Maybe that's why we finally saw the return of the $4 bin? Those Tink fairies first. I foresee a $4 Planes pin bin in the not too distant future. Have those Fairies been out for a year now? Maybe that's their window?

If Ghirardelli is thinking from a business standpoint they will capitalize on this pin thing. They bought this place to make money. If I were in their place I would be trying to find ways to expand the PTD instead of killing it. Could you imagine if they kept them at LE 300, allowed us to purchase 3 per person and released 4-5 per week? Imagine the profits. At 3 per person they could avoid actually having to give people the ice cream. How come nobody told me the store was up for sale?...I would have totally been all over that. LOL!!!

haha Well I'm glad I got to see the original DSF before it remodels this past month ^_^ Good timing and I cannot wait to see what Ghiradelli does with the place in terms of pins. My only fear is that they'll obnoxiously put their logo on every PTD or something <_<

I thinks it's good news as when I was there last year and I had a ptd and I didn't think the ice cream was that nice I think the ghirardelli ice cream is much nicer anyway as they said they will still be doing the pin trading delights and selling the other pins in the store I just hope they do e refurb of the studio store part as I thought it looked rather run down when I was there last November

i bet they're gonna change the logo too... i loved that logo :cry::cry: next time i'm at DSF i'm gonna finally buy a freakin' DSF keychain! i've been meaning to forever lol.

This is such big news! When I first read about it I was really afraid that this was the end of ptds and pin releases. Im so glad we will still have both. Alls right with the world lol

The logo might not change...wouldn't merchandise fall under the Studio Store? My impression is that they are taking over the food/ice cream side of the store.

Yes. I don't think Ghirardelli is "buying" the place... just leasing their space from Disney. The only thing we know for sure is that the Store will remain the same and the Store will be controlling the pins that go with the Ghirardelli sundaes. I am curious to see what happens to the backs of the newer pins, but we might not see that for a while until their current supply runs out, which probably includes pins that were scheduled to be sold in October and maybe even November. (Unless they scrap them all and shove them into the trash??? Gasp!!! I don't want any of your contemplating dumpster diving at DSF, ok??? )
