Disneyland pin trading complaint.

I agree that pin trading at DLR has gone down hill in the past few years. I remember in the good old days there were always interesting older pins on lanyards and hidden mickeys were fun to search for because we would have a new set released every month. I would find hundred mickeys pins, and all kinds of great stuff. It was amazing! Now I am lucky to find a few hidden mickeys here and there. Long gone are the days of lanyards being refreshed with really cool pins. Since they got rid of our beloved "Pin Merchandise Cast Members" the pins on lanyards now are just horrible. Covered with starters and fakes after being refreshed, and fewer cast members wearing pins. I don't know if I would blame it on WDW. I blame it on Corporate Disney wanting to save a few bucks and ruining pin trading for us at DLR.

I love trading at DLR. I have never been pushed, shoved or anything of the sort. A ton more CMs have lanyards on now that the holidays are over. Usually I end up talking to the CMs for 5 or so minutes after our trade just in an effort to be friendly, get to know them & show them I am not like everyone else.

More than anything else, I miss the monthly releases of Hidden Mickey pins. The anticipation of "which set will it be"... the thrill of catching the lanyards right after they were refreshed (which was far more frequent) and the satisfaction of completing your set for the month and then finding the extra sets to send to your Florida friends. It was THE thing that got me hooked on pin trading when I bought my first annual pass. I cannot count the hours I spent at the tables at Westward Ho swapping hidden mickeys for hidden mickeys so we could all complete our sets. And I cannot count the other traders I met along the way who have added value and joy to my life.

In my opinion... the barrels at Disneyland haven't been the same since. That one change was the beginning of the end for me. My current pass expires in mid-May and because I don't spend the time at the barrels trading anymore (because it just isn't fun anymore), and because Disney has hiked the price of my $379.00 pass (in 2008) to $499.00... I'm not renewing this year.

I've never been to WDW. I grew up at DLR. But please... WDW is not to blame for all the changes in pin releases/pin trading. Disney Management is.

<heavy sigh>

You hit the nail on the head with that. I miss the first few days of the month where no one knew which pins would be released. You'd walk the parks with friends scouring for the new pins, have your friends on speed dial telling you which pins had just been released, waiting for all the refreshes. It truly was the beginning of the end for me as well when they made the change to release in batches, it took SO much of the fun away; it became frustrating.

I'm glad so many others realize the changes made in the past three years have been detrimental to the hobby.

I just got back from WDW. I am too lazy to read this thread but I must say although I didn't take my pins to WDW I think I would've had more fun trading off there lanyards then DLR. Most of the WDW CM's actually wore lanyards. I loved it....it was so cool....and in the end I regretted not taking trader pins to get some of the new hidden mickeys...poop. =[

I think they're getting the message. Lots of kiosks had trading boards today. Especially at DCA. I did overhear a manager on main street tell CM's to remove thei lanyards in 5 minutes to streamline people exiting. Thought that was going a bit past necessary.

I was at DLR this weekend and my fam had a real good trip as always. Even had a CM go out of thier way to find a pin that the birthday baby needed. No trade made.. The pin was just gave to Kadyn. The CM had mickey head candy in hand and the baby kind of reached for it. I told him no of corse... but the CM said...oh u want one...what color... He pointed to them all... the cm said oh u want green.. Than walked to the reg. to cut the pack open. After that they keep one with price tag and gave the baby the other 4. So that was a free pin and also sum free candy. oh and they had a layard on and 3 boards to trade with also. There was so many CMs with lanyards that on our last day we had a rule to not even look. ( corse we cheated a little) Too much time was going to pins and not the birthday boy and the magic of disneyland.

Thank u Walt... ur magic and dream is still alive at DLR..

PS..not sure where all the mad and upset ppl go.. but mayb its not DLR but your self and other bad traders that are the trouble. Treat ppl good and enjoy Disney... dont make your day just about pins.. have fun and pins will come.
