DisneyStore Limited Edition 17" Dolls Discussion
I have a feeling we're just gonna have to get used to these dolls having the gloss finish from now on. First the Frozen set, then LA Cinderella, and now Jasmine. This seems to be the new trend.

Sadly you are probably right. There were a LOT of complaints about the shiny skin on the Disney Store Facebook page so Disney may drop it for future doll releases, but I doubt it. It is Disney after all lol.

Man, I love absolutely everything about her

EXCEPT FOR THE SHINE.

I can live with the shine but I BY FAR prefer the dolls without it. I don't think we should give in in defeat and just accept the shine. While it's too late for them to change Jasmine (and I agree we can kind of write it off by saying a princess who lives in the middle of the desert should look sun-kissed!), if Disney Store sees enough complaints about the shine on their Facebook page/gets Tweets about it, etc. they might just listen. And lol, all of the top comments on the photo of the doll are people complaining about the shine. If you haven't already, go and "like" all those comments if you agree to keep pushing them to the top of the comment pile and hopefully Disney Store takes them into account. Another possible way to get the message to them would be to contact Steve Thompson, a designer for the Disney Store. He's a really nice guy and actually does respond to his fans on Facebook and probably through other social media avenues.

THIS IS NOT AN ENCOURAGEMENT TO HARASS HIM OR SAY RUDE THINGS. Just maybe a friendly "hey, love the new Jasmine you guys are doing and can't wait to add her to my collection, but I gotta say, I'm not a fan of the shininess Disney Store has been adding to their LE dolls lately. It works and makes sense for the fairies but I hope to see a stop to it for the non-magical princess/fairy dolls in the future". Then we can all go and "like" comments like that to show our support for an end to the shine!

At least she doesn't appear to have tinsel in her hair. I hated the tinsel FAR MORE than the shiny skin. The ONLY doll the tinsel EVER made sense for is purple dress Rapunzel. I hate it on both Auroras, I hate it on Elsa, I hate hate HATE it on Anna.

Oh gosh, what if there IS tinsel in Jasmine's hair, only it's black so it doesn't pick up in photographs but is really noticeable (AND UGLY) in person??

Okay, not going to jump ahead of myself until I see more pictures. Even with the negative of the shine I can't WAIT to own her. I actually LOVE the dark green colour they chose for her outfit. Unfortunately, using teal green again wouldn't have made this doll much different from her designer couple counterpart (which sadly I think is the reason we'll never see 17" Mulan or Pocahontas - they would literally just be larger versions of their couples dolls *cry*) so they had to change up something. I love the gold accents and the embroidery and the FREAKING HIDDEN MICKEY ON HER BELT. Her necklace doesn't really look like Aurora's to me either. Similar yes but I'm pretty sure they used a different mold to create them.

Now the only thing to worry about is the fact this doll is being released the same day the Aladdin Tsum Tsum set is expected to be released. I was always first or second in line for doll releases but people have gone so Tsum Tsum crazy in my city that they're practically camping out overnight for them (which is silly now that the new limit of 2 has made them much easier to get - the Inside Out ones took over two weeks to fully sell out here, though Bing Bong and Fear were gone in about four days). I do kind of expect more people for the Lilo set and ESPECIALLY the Aladdin set next month since those are older movies and therefore have more fans. Hmm, an overnighter for Jasmine or not, decisions decisions....

I agree, aqua might have been too obvious.. but even a royal /peacock blue, purple, a combination of colors.... or a more vibrant green (think emerald) fine, but I feel like this odd dark green will make her look strange with the rest of the dolls

Is it too much to hope that this is just a prototype and they can still change it to make her skin not shiny? She's still a few months from being released isn't she? Preorder in August but when does she come out?

Also I find it very hard to believe they will never do a 17 inch Mulan or Pocahontas. They would do princes (which didn't even sell all that well) and villains but not all the princesses? It doesn't make sense. And at least with Mulan, they have a bunch of outfits to pick from. They just for some reason have chosen not to do anything but the rather hypocritical pink outfit. But they could easily portray her in her end of the movie outfit where she had her most heroic moments. It's a dress I can see easily embellished. And even if they did choose that pink outfit again, they can do the same thing they did with Jasmine and just change up the colors a bit. As for Pocahontas, Mattel has done some nice embellished collectible Pocahontas dolls, so Disney can too.

And please NO MORE SHINY SKIN I HATE IT JUST ABOUT EVERYONE HATES IT! Pretty much the most positive reactions I've seen to the shiny skin is that it's 'not a dealbreaker' and 'tolerable' and they like her 'in spite of the shiny skin'. Ugh.

I'm really on the fence with this one. I know I'll probably get her anyway but she just didn't "wow" me. She looks similar to the DFDC designer set but just a bigger version. I will say the embroidery on the bottom of her cape is gorgeous and can't wait to see an up-close photo of it. But oy the shiny skin, at least it doesn't stand out at much as the Frozen ones but still.. why??

Also I'm kind of scared with pre-orders now given how Aurora turned out to have 2 variants last year and had I known they were going to release the blue version, I would've never bought the pink version. So I'm scared they're releasing this moss green version (which I think still looks lovely) and then end up releasing another one that's exactly the same except in her iconic teal or purple.

And last but not least, can I just say I LOVE the fact they gave her a ton of bracelets? The earrings are a bit of a let down that they're not her usual triangular shapes bu I want to hold my judgment until we get a clearer picture of what they'll look like.

I'm kind of on the fence on Jasmine. She looks pretty, and I do love the dark colors on her. But at the same time, she has the shiny skin, and also she doesn't seem as intricate as the other princesses. She's just kind of plain and doesn't have that "wow" factor as much as the others in my opinion. Yeah, her outfit is one of the most plain of all the princesses, but they could have done something a little extra?

I was kind of hoping she would look like this from a show(?) at Tokyo Disneyland.

All the comments but no one has said the release date. Do we know yet? I am one of the few that do not have a facebook account so any help would be appreciated!

Woah! It must be super hot where Jasmine is!! She seems like she is sweating quite a bit. Lol but honestly what is with the shiny faces?!

Guess I'll need to start saving asap! Will she be released in July?! I don't even have a job atm :O

I imagine this is just a preview picture. The DS blog and FB announcement are usually concurrent, but I guess this time they decided to release one picture ahead of time to pique peoples' interests. Disney did this once before when they released just one picture of 2015 Anna with no additional info the day before they announced Elsa and Kristoff back in March, but I can't think of any other time the blog post hasn't come first.

But as you said, either way we'll have more details than this before August (preferably today!).

the pre order is the 4th august in store, the 5th online, she will be released the 13th octobre. The 500 for europe came from facebook disney.

it's just my personnal opinion, last year there were only 500 Aurora in pink version for Europe and later 1000 for the blue version. I guess there will be another version of Jasmine.

Thats a very valid point and I do remember now you say. I'm not sure if anyone saw some of the comments on the UK Facebook page but someone was asking about Aladdin and although they didn't confirm him they just said keep an eye. I suppose we all know he is coming anyway. I know we've had a lot of talk about Jasmine but will everyone be getting Aladdin too? I'm just going to try for Jasmine and if they do end up with two colours id definately want a different colour because I find the doll too similar to the couples & designer doll from 2011.

I'm really tempted to try my local store for this release because from last released it doesn't get too crazy there. Do they release the dolls the same day in store & online - I can't recall from the Sleeping Beauty release as I didn't buy her.

Steve Thompson does NOT work on the 17" dolls, only the designer dolls. Contacting him over these dolls will not do much of anything. A different team works on these dolls.

I hate when people say tinsel doesn't work for Aurora when Aurora is the one who is supposed to have "gold as sunshine in her hair" and in the film her hair has drawing lines down her hair so the tinsel does kinda give that effect. Tinsel doesn't work for Elsa/anna and kinda works for Rapunzel but makes the most sense and looks the nicest on Aurora Espically since she has a lot of gold details. Hope Jasmine doesn't get it though.
Not trying for this Jasmine but may try for her if they release a red or purple variant in the UK

I would think the chances of Jasmine in purple would be slim since they have her rumored Red outfit coming out for D23, that would bring it up to three dolls of her. But, I was surprised last year (being a non convention year and a duplicate of one character) for a total of FOUR 17' dolls - Aurora Pink, Aurora Blue, Phillip, Maleficent. So I guess anything is possible. I expected a Human Ariel doll and that didn't happen, not yet anyway. Last year was a good test on their part to see if people would by the same character in a different outfit. Someone posted fanart of her in purple and it looks so good!

Oh! That purple variant IS nice! Everything flows really nicely and looks more genuinely "Jasmine".

I think my problem with the official doll's design is there's no pop. Her skin is the same color as the trim of her outfit, so she's basically bronze and green. The shiny skin looks like all the other bronze things on her outift since it's all shiny in one way or another; everything just bleeds into each other.

However, I really love the bottom of her skirt and her bracelets. I like her pose, too. It reminds me of Middle Eastern dancing.

It was done by a tumblr user, she also created a more movie like edit.

Honestly such simple changes made such a huge difference. I actually would want jasmine if she looked like these.

Have to agree at least there isn't any tinsel this time. I quite like the shiny skin but agree it shouldn't become the norm for every new release now. I actually took almost all the tinsel off Anna's hair and it looks ten times better. If only Elsa's tinsel had been silver, the gold is so jarring!!

Over all I think one of the main reasons why the shinny skin works better on Jasmine vs Elsa is because she doesn't look pale sick and sweating. Also I feel like they could have had a better position and reveal for Jasmines doll. It just looks like such an awkward way to be announced. I also wish they would have tilted her head down more so we can see the headband more. I feel like between the Jasmine announcement, the last Frozen trio set and Aurora, Aurora has had the best revel photo. I loved how they had her displayed in front of the castle! I have a feeling that the D23 Jasmine will not have the shinny skin and her outfit will blow away this one. Lastly what is everyones thought on the hairstyle? Do you wish it was a bit more fuller at the top? I look forward to seeing her in person and more photos. I am also a bit disappointed that she didn't come with some type of accessory like the lamp or the flower.
