DisneyStore Limited Edition 17" Dolls Discussion

Thank you very much! I'm rather new to collecting and I have no idea about early links. I completly flunked out when I got Purple Elsa.

I am also playing the waiting game. I don't want to pay more than $700, and I think that eventually I will find that deal. Her price has been going down all weekend. It may backfire on me and go up again, but I just don't find her worth more than that.

Nice! So you got in line quite quickly then. And that's great you found Ariel for a good price - she's lovely!

.......................

Also, don't think there's much chance anyone in other countries will be able to buy red Jasmine that cheaply - import charges on eBay are insane.

Just listed my Snow Queen Elsa via a friend, oof that hurts... But I might be able to get my Snow White finally!

I'm really pleased with how the Frozen Fever dolls came out - but depending on where I'm at with money when they come out I might only get Anna. That sunflower dress is too adorable to pass up. I want to get Aladdin but I am probably going to have to pass on him in lieu of getting Jafar T:

Everyone is so excited for the Frozen Fever and the Frozen designer dolls, and I am just sitting here excited for Aladdin and the Peter and Hook designer set haha. I am a little disappointed that more people aren't excited for them, but I guess it means that it will be easier for people like me to get them. I will probably try to go for Jafar later on. I know his LE is smaller than normal, but I don't see him going for much on the secondary market.

^ I too have picked up on the fact that most people seem more excited for the Frozen Fever dolls...meaning they will likely sell out very quickly. Then Disney will (once again) release Anna and Elsa dolls in completely irrelevant outfits and said people will be unable to fathom why they are being released.

I have firmly convinced myself to get Jafar. Yay for villain dolls! Still upset we didn't get a Cruella with the Dalmatians BluRay.

Oh I'm beyond thrilled to see Aladdin and Jafar. Though I doubt I'll have room for them, I'll at least try for Jafar. Not a Frozen fan and never will be one, so those dolls and the surrounding buzz are non interesting to me.

I hope I can get Aladdin and jafar. They'll be the first series of Les I'll have every doll for. Not counting sleeping beauty because I don't have harrods.

Aladdin looks interesting but the way his head is turned is odd. They posed him sideways?

I think it was because most of the decorative aspects of his outfit are on the back of the vest, and the only way to see that + his face is to pose him sideways.

I do like that snow globe lamp. The 2011 designer Jasmine doll is holding one I do not understand why not a single one of these dolls has that as an accessory.

i truely don't understand that! don't get me wrong i love aladdin and jafar their items but not even the red jasmine with a magic lamp :l oh well the globe is nice! did anybody in this group ever buy a harrods set? i have some questions D:

I am really tempted to just hunt down someone with a 3D printer and pay them to print me off a small lamp that I can paint and put in Aladdin's hand lol.

EDIT: I actually just found a 3D model someone made for the lamp that can be downloaded and printed off. Now I just need someone to shrink it down for me a bit and we will be good to go!

I think we as collectors need to flood the comments section about how awful some of those people are.

Prime example is the girl who stated they are only going to flip the merchandise to recoup the costs of their vacation. Sounds to me like if they are having to do that maybe they shouldn't have gone on that vacation in the first place.
IMO if you have enough money to make that trip and splurge for a sorcerer's package or whatever that deal is, then you should have no reason to "try and recoup" costs that you spent to get to the expo to begin with.
But I digress that the thought process is always backwards for people, they probably didn't have the means to take the trip to begin with, so their intention was to take the trip anyway and then "recoup" those costs by waiting in line to buy the merchandise so they can then "flip" it to cover their trip costs and probably then some, just to do it all over again in 2 years....

The second guy that was quoted in the article wasn't TOO bad since he was buying the merchandise for his family though it did say MOST of the merchandise was for his family when you know he probably did buy some items to try and flip too but at least he did get items for his family that are probably true collectors.

Now the public are by far NOT the only ones to blame in a situation like this, Disney is just as guilty by making these "con exclusives" to begin with. Yes I understand they are a business and it boils down to that, BUT I don't understand why they have to make such small runs for some of these dolls, it's not like they are going to reap the crazy profits that the scalpers make from the merchandise. You would figure if they know a doll will sell as it is coveted by many FANS then they would mass produce it or not make it solely a con exclusive. If anything they should make like a first edition release only available at the con, and then make a new run of it released to the public at the stores and online. But excuse me for having an idea that would ultimately make more money for DISNEY and not the disgusting scalpers...

Sorry, off my soapbox (for now) LOL

Don't most conventions have exclusives? Disney, SDCC, etc.? Wasn't there a Funko Regina Pop that was SDCC exclusive that retailed for less than $20, yet was being sold for more than $200?

If there wasn't any exclusive merchandise, I think people wouldn't be happy.

Although, I don't recall exclusive merchandise at the regular science fiction conventions I used to go to (Creation Entertainment and the like)

Yeah, some conventions don't seem to have them. I was at a Dark Shadows convention a few years ago and there wasn't any exclusive merchandise sold there.

What I found disgusting was how brazen the scalpers have become in their cavalier attitudes. Seriously, they're actually BRAGGING to the reporters! And Ms. Riley's statement is very telling, especially the part how she believes most of the people in line were also planning on reselling it. If that's truly the case, then do the math. 300 LE number for Jasmine and 80% went to scalpers, how many collectors have actually succeeded in getting these dolls? And that was just her guess!

Regardless, now that it's in the news, that'll hopefully get Disney to crack down on the rules again.

I'd love to go to D23, but I would hate to spend all that money and waste all that time in line to potentially get some dolls and other exclusive merchandise that seem to go first thing. I wouldn't want to waste my whole expo standing in line and miss out on the actual expo. I know my husband and I plan on going in 2017 as we would really like to do a Cali trip to visit friends, see some sites, go to Disneyland, and the expo.

If D23 wants to do exclusives they should really just raise the edition size.

I am a San Diego Comic Con goer, and my Exclusive is the Monster High Dolls. The number they used to make for SDCC was 5000, now they won't even say, but I think they are raising it to an even bigger size.

I know Mattel/Mattycollector and Hasbro even have Convention “after sales”. Now, selling after the con kind of takes away from the exclusiveness, but if raising the edition size causes this, I’d rather have an after sale, then be disappointed at the convention. The Monster High in the after sale even stayed available for a few days (rather than selling out in minutes.)

I've been the one waiting hours in line, but I do this by choice and I don't begrudge those who have an easier time getting the doll. I would rather have more true collectors getting the dolls, and scalpers being forced to lower their prices.

300, 1023 for and Limited Edition size is cruel, it makes it more cost worthy for scalpers, and less magical experience for true Disney fans. I waited 8 and 1/2 hours to not get the Hans/Elsa set, and it kind of put a damper on the rest of the convention. More people should get a chance to own these amazing dolls.
