Amm3 I agree with every word you said. but we are not a world rulled by reason or common sense. All in all its becoming its own beast. this year ive seen things i never would have imagined happening with this line. and I also feel like at some point soon disney is going to burn this line and the collectors out.

I guess it's because if the doll is more expensive they assume less people will buy it? They don't want to be stuck with unsold items.

Or maybe it's because the more exclusive it is, the more people will want it?

I think it should be 'the more expensive, the less people are willing to buy' especially for some items that are not as popular as Frozen or Alice LE stuffs.

I agree with absolutely everything everyone is saying. I know Disney is a business, but their unbridled, over-the-top, blatant greed is starting to become a a real turn-off for me. Not to mention these "games" they play with their consumers like --- oh surprise! we're releasing the designer set an hour before we said we would--- or how they advertised with photos of the Aurora Harrods doll and then gave us a lesser version --- or how they continue to ship these high-priced items with completely inadequate packaging despite consumers constant complaints about it, and etc. etc. etc....

This is supposed to be a fun and pleasurable pastime and it's ridiculous how much stress, disappointment and even rage, it causes everyone. It's really sad. A new study will come out in a couple of years that finds "8 out of 10 Disney doll collectors die early from heart attacks due to stress." LOL.

I love my Disney dolls, but I'm finding myself enjoying my other non-Disney dolls more because they don't provoke so much anxiety.

You could claim they are releasing these Platinum sets due to demand, but if the demand for dolls is higher, then why not make higher edition sizes and make them available to more people and make them more attainable? I think it is more about catering to elitism than anything else, to be honest.

I know this is still just a rumor, but I didn't think the red Jasmine would happen either so I wouldn't be surprised if it is true. I certainly don't put it past Disney. And we are all assuming this set will be LE 500 but I wouldn't be surprised if the edition size is smaller like around 300 or less. The higher the price, the lower the edition size usually. And I'm sure the set will be gorgeous, but look at how detailed and beautiful 17" Snow White is and she was only $100 AND came with the movie to boot!

For $750, the Aladdin set should include a magic carpet...one that actually flies. LOL 🙂

DisneyStore has always been a company that doesn't care about it's customers. To them, if an item sells out, it was a success. They don't look at poor customer service as a failure. And that is exactly the reason why they will continue to do things like this.
It is an unethical company, but to be honest... They are acting like a business and a corporation.

Being a collector is hard. And I am sorry to say this, but it's not for everyone. Disney and other companies specifically make it hard to collect these things because they want to show everyone how successful they are. At the end of the day, Disney doesn't care about damaged boxes or lost sales. Why? Well, let's go through this.
If I call in with a damaged box, here's what they'll do:
Option 1: Keep it and we'll give you $20. $20 is nothing to the DisneyStore and is probably paid by UPS for damages.
Option 2: Send it back to us, UPS pays for shipping. We'll refund you the money and sell it elsewhere for the same price.

I think the time has come for people to accept what they get and just go with the flow. You don't like what's happening? You're not chained, you can leave. It's sad but learning to let go of things that cause problems for you is something that we all should know.

Right now, it is overwhelming for me. I mean, are you kidding me? Red Jasmine? Terrible looking Aladdin and Jafar, Frozen Fever Anna and Elsa (not to mention the inevitable Harrods versions)... It is hard. But I've started to complain less and to go with the flow. If I can't afford to get something, oh well. There's always a better tomorrow waiting.

As for the LE500s that are really expensive. I agree. It's made to cater to the elite and to the people who can afford them. There's no other reason. But honestly.. This is just like them releasing a D23 exclusive or a Harrods set. That's that.

I will end by restating what I said on top. Being a collector is hard and expensive, not everyone is cut out for it. But you need to think of these companies as that one person on the lifeboat. They don't care who starves or jumps off, as long as they get to the land.
An example of a company that has done this is Funko with the POP figures. Fans have blatantly told them over and over again how displeased they were with how Walmart, Target, and Walgreens were handling their exclusives. Those stores are still getting exclusives that are in high demand by customers. Why? Probably because they pay higher for the exclusive than Hot Topic or other good stores. Money does job.

So yeah....

I don't disagree with you that the company doesn't give a damn and they are motivated by money, LOL I think we can all agree on that. 🙂 I don't truly believe any of that's going to change, no matter how much we complain. But I don't believe being a collector necessarily has to be that hard ---(Expensive, YES! -- being able to collect or afford dolls at all is definitely a luxury.) However, I think saying that some people are just not "cut out for it" is a little over the top -- we are doll shopping, not competing in the Olympics. Some people might choose not to put up with all this bs, but I think that is slightly different than saying they're not cut out for it, which I feel implies some sort of insult, but maybe I misunderstood and that is not what you meant. In that case, I apologize.

Yep same here. Just trying to add to the discussion. It's getting tiring hear people constantly complain about how Disney is evil and doing everything they can to crush the collectors.

As for the "cut out" comment. I meant that not everyone is meant to be a collector because some can't deal with the stress of these releases. I've seen a lot post that they are depressed and constantly stressed out and not being able to sleep. I'm just saying that if they're experiencing all of these things months in advance of the actual night, maybe they should rethink their decision to buy these things. Mental health is more important than anything else after all.

I'm passing on the rumored set for sure because it is more than I will pay for dolls. I also think it is an insult for Disney to charge that much. Also, even though it's almost certainly going to have the Prince Ali outfit (which I want very much), I don't like the 17" Aladdin facemold and that's almost certainly going to be the same.

Now no one should have their universe crushed by it but I dont see so many people jumping in elation either. most pages and forms related to the hobby have been pretty negative from the releases especially after d23. And I dont think it should always come down to "no ones forcing you to buy them" or "quit collecting" I believe in just talking sometimes and nothings wrong with dialog. No ones forcing you to read it either 😉 thisis a discussion thread after all. not that there's been the discord here like in other pages ect. and so thats some thoughts no one attack me please 😀.

Gotcha! 🙂 I think we are actually saying the same thing regarding the stress. If it is not enjoyable to you and causing you misery, it's probably not worth it.

That's what I was trying to get at, I've noticed that Disney doll forums and groups seem to have more unhappy collectors than other doll groups overall and that's just kind of sad because people who collect these dolls do it because they love them ---- and it should make people happy not miserable.

And yeah, this year has been a tough one! 🙂

And it's because of us (not just us on the forum, I mean, but collectors as a whole 🙂) that the dolls even have become successful. Since the beginning, or even since later on in the line before Frozen, we were the ones who bought the dolls. We made the line successful by purchasing without the intent to resell, thus making the dolls more unattainable later on and without flooding the secondhand market. Without us, there would be no genuine consumer for the product. I think after all the time, money, and yes, love, we've devoted to these dolls and Disney as a company, we're allowed to be a little miffed when the line takes a turn for the worse.

A lot of people got invested in these dolls, monetarily and otherwise, and have been supporting for a long time. A lot of us only want to collect if they can have the whole set. I don't think it's wrong for Disney to make money off of their product, but I do think it's wrong to clearly take advantage of that, to the point where scalpers are essentially half their market. If you don't want to cater to collectors, don't sell your dolls as LE collector items. I know this isn't going to change any time soon, and Disney doesn't care where it goes so long as they get their payout, but they do rely on happy customers. By feeding the frenzy and making the prices so high that even many collectors won't buy it, they're burning their customer base, and by extension, their line, out.

I don't take stock in any rumors until Disney has their say. Considering what happened during last March's Frozen releases, it's still a good policy to have. Rumors were then that we'd be getting the Frozen Fever dolls (that are only just NOW coming out) and possibly even a 17" Hans. Instead, we got Anna in her epilogue dress, Elsa is the purple dress that she wears at the beginning of the film for all of 1 minute, and no Hans.

If this turns out to be true, however, then I'm certainly not getting it. My budget is very carefully planned out year after year. I don't have room for any rumored sets. And I'm not loosing my mind over this. I'm all ready getting Teal Jasmine, and I have plans to get Aladdin when he comes out. Neither one is my favorite of the Disney Princess/Prince lineup (Phillip is my favorite of the men while Aurora, Rapunzel, and Elsa tie for first among the women), so while I like these two a lot, I won't be heartbroken by not getting this set.

You have to take all of these rumors with a grain of salt, but that rumor is from a reliable source apparently. The wedding outfits are nice and all (especially Jasmine's dress), but it seems like a missed opportunity to go with those outfits over the outfits from the end of the movie. Then again, I am not really that excited for a doll set that is over $700 that I have zero intention of ever buying no matter how beautiful it looks.

I'm curious how long it will take for this Aladdin platinum set to sell out. I know the Wedding Cinderella sold out quicker than every one thought it would, but this set is even more expensive. Also, it seems as if a lot of the resellers who bought Platinum Cinderella got stuck with her as the secondhand prices have plummeted considerably. $750 is a lot of money for even scalpers to shell out not knowing if the set will sell. And if there's not a lot of people willing to pay retail, there's going to be even fewer wiling to pay second-hand prices. I guess it also depends on the edition size, which I presume is going to be super low. It will be interesting to see how it goes...

All the better for me if that's true about their outfits, as I don't actually like their wedding outfits very much (they seem to channel "Star Trek" rather than "Arabian Nights" for me, personally).

If it is wedding themed like wedding Cindy, I wonder if this means there's a new, eye-poppingly-expensive, LE wedding doll line underway? But Wedding Rapunzel was just "expensive." I think she is just as detailed as Wedding Cindy, though.

....or maybe this is all pure rumor, and Disney has wisely learned from our feedback of Wedding Cindy not to price their LE dolls so outrageously high anymore. I really hope that's the case. Red Jasmine was just "expensive." Now, if only they would realize, there is no point in making LE triple digits with dolls, which was the only problem with Red Jasmine. Once Disney realizes that the "sweet spot" for both the company and the collectors is a doll that takes a few days to sell out (neither a few months nor a few seconds is best), then I think they'll really be back on track.

I am a little worried though, that Disney is derailing their LE doll collection (by which I include both the 17" and the designer dolls, since they are all LE). Not only with bad pricing and edition sizes, but the over-releasing of too many dolls at a time. These things are all discouraging to the collecting community. And, as others have mentioned, none of us are blind to the decreased attention to detail/effort for the price, seen since the first few dolls.

I comfort myself that the Heroes Vs. Villains line is beautiful, and I hope to get them all - because although I have favorites, I actually think each set in this line is fantastic, so even if Disney ends up sabotaging the success of the LE dolls, I hope I'll have this very beautiful collection to still enjoy. I'm very happy they made this line, despite all the mistakes they've also been making lately.

I've seen the image of that wedding outfits but I'm not impressed. Perhaps I'm very particular when it comes to wedding dresses and obviously taking these rumors with a grain of salt but honestly I'd be surprised if they really went with this outfit since (don't shoot me) I've never even seen Aladdin 3. Also at that price tag their outfit better be embellished with gold foils or something.lol

I think despite all the complaints of the pricing, similar to Wedding Cindy, it'll sell out in seconds. Not to mention a speculated smaller edition size and to your point of Aladdin having a much longer history than Live Action Cinderella. Also, Harrods anyone? People were shelling out $800 give or take PLUS shipping from the UK for them (even for Aurora which was really the fancy, truly-advertised version of what the regular LEs were) so I don't see why people wouldn't buy this set if true.

No doubt it'll be sold out in minutes. Fortunately for me, it's not a Frozen set. Otherwise, I have to save up for a long time again to get it.

Hmm I like the theory of all the platinum line being wedding dress mostly because I have no interest in buying any wedding dolls at all lol 🙂 but more power to everyone who wants em since im sure they'll be pretty but thankfully wedding dolls wouldn't be to me liking at all. I wouldnt buy this set either way though.

Hi everyone. My mom has red Jasmine from D23, coronation Elsa and wedding platinum cinderella le 500. She wants to get rid of one or two. She wants to have a doll that she can sell in case of emergency. Any advice of which one/ones to keep? she really likes Cindy. thanks

If they are really doing the wedding outfits... I'm not even interested. They're pretty tacky, no offense to anybody who likes them. But I just can't see Disney making dolls off a direct to video sequel only older people would remember. (Seriously.... I was born in the early nineties but I don't even remember ever watching it.) Based on the previous releases, I would expect purple dress/Prince Ali set. The fact that people are saying it'll be the KoT outfits makes me really think this is just a rumor after all.
Though, I don't think that means we'll never see LE sets for $750.

I'm guessing the platinum line will be about weddings I guess. They did it for Cinderella, and possibly Aladdin, but all the other princesses have been done and their time is pretty much up to release a random doll for a wedding theme.

If the platinum line is going to be dedicated to wedding outfits, then it's going to be a small set. How many Disney Princesses have actually had on-screen weddings? Cinderella, Jasmine (in a direct-to-video release), Tiana (both as a frog, which got us her official dress, and in human form), Mulan (again, in the sequel that was direct-to-video), and Ariel are the only ones I remember off the top of my head.
