Do CMs these days not know the older characters?

I agree with Erica, you're really not following scottydem. Or if you're are, you're just choosing to ignore exactly what's being said.

If you would've read my first response all the way through, you would've seen that I mentioned some genuinely obscure characters (Amelia, Lyle, Buck and Goob). You also would've seen that I don't expect all CMs to know who those characters are. The characters that me and you listed aren't featured in much merchandise, if any at all. Figaro is though. Figaro is on a lot of Halloween stuff every year, and like Mackenzie said, he features in Minnie Mouse cartoons as Minnie's pet cat.

Tinker makes a fantastic point in regards to not knowing about certain characters. Do the research! I've not played every single video game there is, but I read reviews and play demos of games that I wouldn't usually be interested in, so that when a customer comes in to ask about it I can tell them about it. If that Disney employee really cared about their job, then surely they would do a bit of research outside of work into characters that they stock merchandise of in their place of work.

These are the two points I'm trying to express in the simplest form I can offer:

1.) If you want CM's to know every character that there are pins of in whichever pin station they're in, which is obviously a bulk of characters, then after a while they should know just about every character because pins switch out eventually and new ones come in. If that's to be expected of a CM working with pins, then IMO that's unreasonable and unlikely.

2.) It's in my opinion also that Figaro is obscure, and there's no changing my mind and obviously I'm not going to change yours.

Now I'm done. For sure. ;)

Response to #1: That's a bit exagerated. If pin carts and stores actually had that much selection then we'd all be happier pin people. The truth is that their selection really isn't all that great. "Obscure Characters", however you want to define it, rarely get pins. There are many characters that have never had a pin. So, to say that by simply learning what pins they have in their stations that over time they would learn every character is just not true. Even if it was...what's wrong with that? If a person works there for five years is it really that much to ask for them to continue their on the job learning? Those types of things you almost can't help but learn over time. It isn't rocket science.....

Response to #2: Nobody said you couldn't have your opinion. Some people just don't agree, and that's fine. I don't think anyone's day is going to be ruined over it...

If it's a bit exaggerated, but it should be expected?

Please don't put those words into my mouth. I clearly said quite a few posts ago that we should agree to disagree on the matter, not that I felt like I couldn't have my opinion.

Now I can stop posting. I don't want my words getting twisted in what they actually mean. I think I'm good :)

What???? Where are you getting this???

If it's a bit exaggerated, but it should be expected?

I don't even know what that is supposed to mean. Again, nobody is saying that CMs should be expected to know every single Disney Character....I have no idea why you think we are saying that.

And I did not put any words in your mouth. I was clearly saying that those were my responses, my words. Again, I don't understand where you are getting this....

Alright I think enough information has been extracted from this thread to showcase different viewpoints. Let's wrap this one up now. :wiggle:
