I have begun to get more serious about pin collecting and have obtained some higher value pins. I'd love to show them off but am also paranoid about scratching or worse losing them. Just curious what others do.......while I want them to stay nice I also want to enjoy them!!

When I was at DLRP this year I did not wear any of my collection pins, just traders on a lanyard. But if you really want to wear them I suggest getting locking pin backs or something similar.

I never wear my pins, I like to display them safely in other ways. I would be too worried about damaging them or losing them, if anything happened to them, its unlikely I would be able to find a replacement.

yes always a locking back. so no i dont wear mine our but i may--i have a bad back and ncek and lanyards really bother me which stinks after our AMY made me kick *** multi-layerd puppy that i love. I do however put some fun ones on my robes with locking backs.
PS robes are my unofficial work uniform.

i USED TO...

but then one day, while wearing my Horse collection i realized just how MUCH those pins were worth, both monetarily and emotionally....

I cannot in good conscience risk those pins getting scratched banged up, or have posts get broken if the pin catches on a edge.... i just cant. I dont judge folks who do, but i have to admit that when i see Rapunzel Lanyards full of high end pins I cringe a bit and ponder why anyone risks it.

Super awesome to show off your excellent collection, risky to allow the opportunity for loss or damage.

I work my Enchanted lanyard at the park when I visited. I got tons of compliments, which stroked my ego, haha. Lots of little girls stopped me to look and comment at how pretty my pins were. The only downside was that I felt bad when they would ask their parents to buy them the same pins. I was a bit paranoid about standing in the sun, cause I dont want my pins to fade, but I did use locking backs (the ones that look like hats).

I would absolutely use locking backs. Maybe I will restrict it to my easier to replace/low value pins. I don't have a big collection so not that many to choose from. Lol. :)

thanks for the input.

lol. I think that's a bit of why I want to. To show off what I've got. But there is a good point of how upset I would be if something happened.....

I usually wear a theme one to the park, it depends on the season. I don't put any of my low LE's on it though. Maybe some higher LE's and definitely use locking backs like everyone is saying. I would never use the barrel one that uses the allen wrench.

I have worn lanyards of keepers to the park before. But honestly I was stressing the whole time! So with locking backs, why not :)
And you're always sure to get tons of compliments!

I haven't been to one of the parks since I started collecting, but all of my collection end up framed and on my walls for display; I don't think I would want to wear them out anywhere. :D

As proud as I am of the pins I have, I just keep them on my board. I would not be able to enjoy my day without worrying about them falling off. My husband wears a Hook on his collar and a Jack on his hat, and we've had mishaps with both of those! I don't want that to happen to me.

I have 2 peacock lanyards. One is the complete WIR collection, another VHTF Star Wars / Star Tours pins. I don't use locking backs. I just use rubber mickey backs that I press a new whole through the full black part. I check them before I wear it to make sure they are snug. I take it off for rides. Never had a problem.

I didn't even know there was another kind. That's the kind we have that we bought in the park. What kind is good?

the allen wrench ones can bend the posts. There are push pull style or "plunger" style locking backs out there. check out a guy on ebay whose ID has "patriot" in it. he sells them in batches, gold or silver. just ebay seach pin backs, or pin locking backs.

The mrs and I both wear our lanyards when we go to the parks and although there has been an instance once or twice where a pin falls off or becomes loose, we always have extra backs and are constantly looking out for each other's pins. Also, when we get on higher turbulence ride, we tuck them into our shirts.; less movement plus, if anything falls off, we are more likely to feel them. I usually wear my SF Giants lanyard to the park so it's about 20 or so pins on one of the wider lanyards they sell at the park. It gets a lot of compliments from cast members that didn't even know the Giants had their own line of pins, as well as from fellow sports fans....I have even had Dodgers fans come up and tell me that while they don't like my team, my pin collection was sick.

quick story: I once had a cm come up and ask me where I had gotten all my pins from. When i told him that they were all either gifts or from the teams ballpark, he told me he was a huge padres fan but that my pin collection ws one of the coolest he had ever seen. We chatted about it for a bit, and then I told him we had to go because we had fast passes for Radiators springs racers expiring soon. We started walking away but right as we did, he stopped us and asked us what our favorite ride was I n dca outside of RSR. We told him probably toy story mania, and he gave us front of line passes for it because he liked my pins so much! Was so awesome!!

I always try to "represent!" usually one or two pins, no "peacock lanyards" (although i do like that term!).

I would never wear any of my pins to the park on or off a lanyard. Too afraid they would fall off or get damaged on a ride! I like to keep them in mint condition in a frame or pin bag. Although I've been awfully tempted to wear my 2009 O Pin House Super Jumbo Haunted Mansion pin to DLR & freak everyone out! It's a pin that measures about 6 or 7 inches square!

I only wear traders and only use the secure old-style pinching backs. I would never take my favorite or valuable pins into the park. I'd be heartbroken if I were to lose one:(

In a world, no.

While I would love to show them off, between offers to trade for it (no Hidden Mickey pins will not get it for you), and the risk of loss, it is just not worth the risk/agrivation.

Pins were meant to be worn (most of them). Yes, I wear mine. Good locking backs (not Disney) and I am careful. I wear 3 lanyards at Christmas filled with my fave Christmas LE pins. People LOVE seeing them.

Please people never use the locking backs that you have to use an allen wrench on. They damage your posts and you can loose your pins that way. There are safe and easy to use plunger type metal pin backs that work great.

I have a hat full of my keepers, but anything on any lanyard I wear is always for trade. Truth be told if I received the right offer the pins on my hat would also be traded, I just don't know what it would take to get any of them.

I wear mine sometimes but I only wear them when I know I'm not gonna be walking around a lot or going on rides. I only wear it when I'm trading at the tables. Also I avoid wearing overly long lanyards cause I don't want to risk hitting it on something. My tangled lanyard is a small princess lanyard so I know it won't hit anything or get scratched.

I went to DLR this summer and was GOING to wear some of my favorite pins on a lanyard but I just couldn't bring myself to do so. That being said, I don't feel any remorse when I wear nice pins on a lanyard at an event where the floor is carpeted. The reason being, with those plunger-backings everyone is talking about I know my pins are secure and in the accident that one of them DID perhaps fall off, they'd hit the carpet and be nice and clean. I got paranoid at DLR because if it falls off onto that concrete, there is no way your pin will make it out without 1 ding or scratch as it shouldn't, it's only metal.

I do like to wear them though, it's nice to show what you got sometimes but usually I find I would rather just look at the pins myself that ostentatiously show them off all the time (then again, I rarely have time TOO show them off ) :)
