I mean, the movie opens nationwide this Friday and I haven't been able to find a thing! I would have to think there will be at least a marquee, but other live action films got a pretty good assortment (Oz, Thor, I think even Lone Ranger). Figured this would fit in well with my Poppins pins.

It's not showing at the El Capitan, so no marquee or GSF pins...

I heard they weren't doing any :( Which honestly really sucks. Because what an honor for both Walt and Mary Poppins would that have been.

Well, it is a highly fictionalized account of mostly how it didn't happen, so I wouldn't really say it'd be an honor for Poppins at all.
From what I've read, Travers never was happy with it, was never treated well by Walt, and in her will she forbade any 'American' from ever making a film of the story or character of any kind ever again... That was her 'revenge'... This movie is apparently the Disney corporations' payback. :p

Just watched the trailer! It looks great. But it's not here until march 5th?! It'll be out on DVD by then in the states...

Really? No pins? Ugh! I was hoping for some new Mary Poppins pins. Those are some of my absolute favorites! Bummer. Oh well. The movie still looks great and I can't wait to see it!!

While not all pins would feature them, but does anyone else think its also of the "Enchanted" issue, where if they made pins featuring Tom Hanks or Emma Thompson they'd have to be paid for using their likeness? I would've loved a pin of the poster just with the shadows of Mickey and Mary Poppins.

I think this is the issue!

I think thats the issue. I mean, the Thor and Iron Man pins all mostly look cartoony and not live action... but then the Oz pins are live action, and so was a John Carter pin... the only Lone Ranger pins I saw were spurs or something and not live action. I think it certainly impacts pin decisions.

not that I am a expert on the subject. But I am going to guess that Tom would not hold up anything if Disney wanted to use his likeness. After all, he is a regularly use actor for Disney. Plus it was a very big honor to be the first to play the late great Walt E. Disney...

This would be the exact problem.

Has anyone noticed that most live action Disney films do not have pins with a close or exact likeness to the actors in the movie? prince of persia has 2 pins with the actor, both are the exact same position AND are the images used on the movie posters. Same with John carter. Mars needs moms got a marquee. thats it. Secretariat got a marquee and a gold lapel style horse. Mary Poppins is really the only one with multiple pins of her.

The Marvel pins would be an exception. But even then they are the characters in super hero costume, not face images of the actors. Dont see any pins of Natalie Portman do you? Or Thor without his helm? Or captain america without his mask?

Yeah, gonna agree with this. I guarantee you that the actors would have to give permission (and possibly request royalties) to use their likeness on pins (or anything for that matter). While not impossible, it's just an extra step, and extra cost, and possibly an extra delay for any pin they'd want to do. Cost I'm guessing is the big factor, but with all the other work they probably just feel it's not always worth it. And there's always the chance they will say 'no', and they either have to scrap the idea or re-design.

I think they have the same problem with Ghibli films. They wanted to do a Nausicaa marquee when they had a limited release around the Blu-ray release, but they couldn't get approval from Ghibli (either at all, or just not in time). They managed it with Arrietty (but isnt' the marquee the _only_ Arrietty pin they've made?), and I hope they can do it with The Wind Rises, but even without characters on the pins there's an extra step of approval/licensing they have to go through to make those pins...

Also, real-life likenesses are nearly impossible to do in the standard pin design. They'd have to go with that 'photo under clear plastic' style of pin, which I don't really care for anyway. The last live-actions I remember pins of were Oz and Alice in Wonderland, and those were all this type of 'photo pin'. Which is better than nothing I suppose, but just not what I prefer to have in pins.

Ok, that's understandable. But they could have done the poster or just gone with re-releasing other Mary Poppins themes. Can you tell I'm really bummed about no pins for this? Ugh! If they didn't want to deal with pins using the actors' likenesses that's no reason really to not to any at all. So bummed

Well, the reason DSF/GSF isn't doing any pins for it is simply that the film isn't being shown there (at the El Capitan). If it was, they would have at least done a marquee, probably just with the film's title on it. It's possible they will do a random pin here or there, but GSF won't...

It's a shame there aren't any pins for this release. I had a wonderful time seeing Saving Mr. Banks at the Academy of Motion Pictures where I work along with some of my fellow DPF members on Dec 7th. They had a neat panel discussion after the film with Tom Hanks, Emma Thompson, Collin Ferrell, Richard Sherman, & the director & screenwriter all in person! It was awesome! I think you might be able to see a clip from the panel on Oscars.org.

And yet look how many pins there are of Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow and the Mad Hatter ... and Orlando Bloom, Kiera Knightly, Geoffrey Rush, etc. So maybe it's not a matter of the actors (or attorneys) holding out for royalties but more an issue of what the Disney Design team creates ... or Disney management is willing to issue?

I too wish they would make some pins for the "Saving Mr. Banks" movie!!
