I was a bit surprised to see pin prices go up with 110th legacy pins, but I thought maybe it is due to the 110th pins being a special collection on different than usual cards, etc.

Now 110th pins are all done, new Halloween pins are coming out and prices are lingering around $16.95 -$19.95 range although edition sizes increased to LE 350 for the Halloween pins and the designs do not seem a lot complicated or artistic.

What am I missing here? Is there an obvious reason to warrant this price increase and am I not able to see it?

Or ds.com

a) got even greedier if possible
b) decided that recession was over-rated anyway
c) assumed all pin collectors hit a major jackpot simultaneously
d) decided that people have sheep mentality and would not notice a small price hike ???

It seems to me that not too long ago LE 250 pins were about $14.95. Or am I totally off?

I think it's "e" - all of the above

I have noticed the same thing- I was browsing pins and was surprised that so many seemed more high in price. I thought it might have just been me since I'm not all that familiar with pin price points.

I think they saw that people would pay it for the 110th pins, so why not just go ahead and jack the prices on all of them?

I just looked at my Order History on DS.com. The last pin order I have was on January 24th!!!!! It was the sale and all of the pins were traders! Pretty much the only pins I've purchased for myself since then have been PoDM pins and those are from the parks, or eBay for me. Apparently I was boycotting the DS.com pin price increase and didn't know it.

YES, this.

Plus F) they have to pay for training the new warehouse staff how to pick orders correctly

Hi Selen,

I think the answer is A, B, C & D! I laughed so much reading this. I just bought the Stitch Halloween pin and wanted to buy more stuff in order to get the shipping to make some sense, but thought everything was so expensive. Then I tried to just add the Pluto Halloween pin, and they were going to charge me another $3 just to add that one to the Stitch pin. So the shipping on Stitch was $4.50 and if I added the Pluto, it was going to be $7.50. This is for 2 pins! The Stitch pin was $19.99 and I don't get why such a high price. So I did notice the increase, and because of it, I only bought one pin.

I was a bit shocked at the price of the Stitch pin in particular. It's cute, and I love Stitch, but I don't know if it's $20 cute when I could get a pin I love more for half that.

DS.com prices are way too high for me for about the last two years. I wait until they have the Pin Sale and try to get what I want at that time (even though there was not a Sale this past August). Nice designs but still too high in price for what you are getting.

I noticed this as well. I considered cutting back on DS.com pins in both 2010 and 2011.....If this keeps up,then definitely will be more serious about considering it for 2012.

they are very expensive , but they know they can get away with it. People will pay for they want, they may morne and complain about the prices but they will still pay them (like me for expample :eek2: but then i think another overtime at work will cover the extra costs!! lol) unless you can get the whole pin world to boycot them disney will contuinte to increase prices

For a company who does not even promote pin trading, it is extreme.

Disney needs to hire someone to plan the events, keep the website updated and work with pin traders to see how things can be done better.

Disney has the money, since they are selling pins that cost them pennies for $15 to $20 a piece.

I agree with everyone here so far, all of the above!!!!

Vicki

I agree with you completely. For quite a while now I've been unhappy with the quality of designs coming from DS and now with the steeper prices, no thank you! My last order was also during the last January sale and they were all traders as well. I don't mind if they charge 19.99 for pins but they better be amazing and thus far I have not seen anything that I'm crazy about.

I'm actually kind of sad about the prices. There's still two 110 legacy pins I really want but their prices are the only things stopping me from getting them. I can only hope they don't sell out within the next two to three weeks. :\

I have a different theory on this. I think they are going to use the higher prices to hire a professional web designer/coder to come in and fix all the problems and performance issues with the DS.com website.

At least, that's something we can hope for.

:)

Hey guys and gals! First post here, I agree with you all on the prices. I love the some of the pins on there as much as the next person, but I can't justify paying $5 on shipping just for one pin, and then at the same time I can see myself paying an average of $14 on more pins to justify that shipping price. I have added stuff to my cart so many times but never bit because the price was too high when I could get a little more bang for my buck at the parks with my AP discount. It's not much, but more than what Disney store is giving me(free shipping on $75 or more, big woop) and I don't pay shipping when I buy at the parks either.
