So everyone has at least one time or another wished you had purchased an extra of a particular pin (Snow White PODM, DSF Tangled pins, etc.) But have you ever made a trade that you were fine with at the time, only to look back and say "What on Earth was I THINKING?!"

While looking through old emails to find someone's address from way back when, we came across a trade we made in January of 2011. Here was the trade:

The pins we were receiving from the other person:
Pin 81329: Disney Store Europe - Emperor's New Groove
Pin 81330: Disney Store Europe - Princess and the Frog
Pin 81328: Disney Store Europe - Aristocats Kittens

Now I do have to mention we traded with this person multiple upon multiple times, and because we traded so often we were always pretty lenient with each other and trying to help each other out. So at the time, we didn't mind this trade.

Here are the pins we gave in return.......

wait for it....

Pin 80877: DSF - El Capitan Marquee - Tangled
Pin 80878: DSF - Tangled - Rapunzel and Flynn in Chair

That's right. We practically gave away those Tangled pins. This was when Tangled hadn't quite hit it's peak yet. Tangled seemed to spark out of control once the Reveal/Conceal girls came out and Rapunzel was the super rare chaser. And we had all the DSF pins for months without anyone really offering us anything for them. So we figured, hey what the heck we'll give them to this trader because they are always super nice in helping us with UK pins.

We look back at this trade now and can't help but think..... "ARE YOU &$*#@%^ KIDDING ME?!"

Oh well. Anyone else have any stories with trades you cannot believe you made?

Well, I have one that only comes to mind because I saw this pin close on ebay yesterday. It was:

Pin 72195: Disney's World of Color Billboard - Limited Release

And I ended up trading these for you (From what I can remember)

Pin 80467: WDI - Princesses and Princes on Thrill Rides - Tiana and Naveen on Splash Mountain
Pin 80469: WDI - Princesses and Princes on Thrill Rides - Cinderella and Prince Charming on Space Mountain
Pin 72831: The Princess and the Frog - Fairy Tales Can Come True!

I remember there being a couple more although I don't recall what they were. All I remember is that they were princess open editions. Either way, I felt like I really over traded for it (but I wanted it so badly!) so it wasn't bad. Plus I know the person I was trading with well and I didn't mind again.

Anyway, long story short, I saw it close for that one pin set at $81 yesterday. I no longer feel I over traded for it! LoL!

I got burned a few times early on so I kinda regret those. But my only real regret was a trade my son got talked into. He knows I like Donald and someone at a PTN traded him a jumbo Donald worth about $20 for the entire Gold Card train set. The individual pins from that set sell for more.

My son was SO excited about the trade that I just didn't have the heart to tell him how lopsided it was. Lesson learned though. There are grown men who will cheat an 11 year old kid.

I regret trading my Mulan PTNs for next to nothing when I had them as they were not really worth anything off my wants list last year I knew I should have held on to them XD

Also I regret trading away any of the PTNs I had BEFORE I decided to collect them fully as meant I had to get them again lol

I regret some of the pins I came back from DLRP with. I have 4 pins that are commomly scrappered hidden mickeys, but I didn't know before I left which pins were commonly scrappered, just how to spot them. So although all my pins are authentic (I have scoured them over a million times and they are all perfect and avoid all scrapper warnings) they are near impossible to trade with online as everyone is just too darn scared to recieve scrappers.
I wish I'd kept my nice old DLRP pins!

Considering I live fairly close to WDW...I regret not buying:

-Snow White PODM
-Cinderella PODM
-Tangled Opening Day
-Tangled Opening Day Cast Member

...when they came out....I even remember going to the parks during these releases, seeing them on the racks, going back and forth and ultimately deciding not to purchase them. Yeah, I was crazy.

I also regret not trying to trade or purchase more of the Reveal/Conceal Girls pins when they first came out...but I guess no one knew at the time that those would be so hard to find now.

Trade-wise...I'm pretty happy with most of the trades I have done...the only pins I really regret trading away are these:

I made good, fair trades for them...but now they are the only two I am missing from the Princess Friends set and I can't find them anymore! (And I purchased the Jasmine for $30 at the time...I know I'll never find it for that price again!). I also gave this pin to my sister when I bought the Princess Brocade set:

Now it is kind-of hard to find and I would like to have the entire set...but I don't want to be an Indian-giver and ask for it back...LOL.

And MischiefManaged...I believe you were the one that sold me the Designer Princess set for around $350...which was the going price for the set at the time, but you may regret that now! LOL But I will always be eternally grateful...it is my favorite set of all time!

All the time!!!!'. EVERYTIME I'm at DLR or any trading event there is at least one trade I make that was a huuuuge error! :-(

They say live & learn, but I'm just livin, without learning!!! :-(

I mess up a lot online too. :-(

Vicki

More than I care to think about!
Not only trading away pins that then get more desirable, but also I trade for pins I then look at thinking "where did I get this? Who wanted this one again? Me? REAlly??" LOL Get too caught up in the heat of the moment.

yes.... I traded away a the DS Rapunzel for a DLRP Rapunzel. Since then I have seen multiple of that DLRP and no-one is trading the DS.

I cry a little regularly over that loss. I was foolish and did it at my first PTN. I was so excited to have a pin to trade at all... lol

oh no! haaaaaaaaaaa! I feel your pain! I JUST started pin trading when tangled pins were released at DSF. I missed the marquee and maximus but was able to get like 5 rapunzel and flynn in chair pins. I didn't get why so many people were trade requesting me for them, ha! I just kept buying them and sending them to people for random pins (some open edition). I was sharked, ha! My own fault. The WORST part of the story is, now I'm an avid tangled collector and guess what is one of the 4 pins I'm missing and can't find....RAPUNZEL AND FLYNN IN CHAIR!! Aaarrrggghhhhh! So funny/sad.

I was lucky enough to very early on learn about sharks and being wary of lopsided trade requests. I have only had that feeling of being taken a few times and nothing super lopsided enough to lose sleep over. I kick myself for not buying a few more pins or keeping a few pins that I ended up selling.

I can't think of a specific example but I know I regret trading some of those DisneyStore.com pins. I can't believe how much some of them are worth now. A lot were LE 250 but didn't really sell out that fast online and even went on clearance.

It goes the other way too.

I turned down trades for recently released pins, where I thought the other person was asking way too much from me. Wow. Six months later I can't get that pin even for an LE 100.

I've done this a few times. There is one trade I am still regretting from back in February, but I dont wanna talk about it lol . . . it still hurts . . . and it is the only trade I have ever dwelled on long after. Usually I say oh well everything evens out. But this one still bothers me lol . . . I dont know what I was thinking . . . .

I usually do this in person haha - I feel like I can't say no to anyone! Recently I traded away a Stitch Halloween DS.com pin, I believe a LE 100, for some random pin. Granted the Stitch pin wasn't very highly sought after...I also remember trading 6 LE cruise line pins for the PWP 2011 mystery porthole pins (an in person trade). I don't know what I was thinking, although the guy came back to me hours later to thank me again for making his day so I didn't regret it too much

I think like everyone else, I regret not buying the reveal conceal girls when they were on eBay for $20 BIN. I also regret not stocking up on Tangled pins to trade! I still remember ordering a few from my resort in FL when they were still on DS.com. And then going back a week later and adding the rest of the pins to my cart - if only I knew what I knew now

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who has these moments! I do want to point one thing out- We do not consider this person we traded with a "shark". We have traded many times in the past and are still currently trading now. It was just one of those things where the pins were not so popular (at that time!) and now looking back we can't believe how the value has increased. So nobody was intentionally ripping anyone off, it was just one of those fluke things.

PrincessBecky- You're right, we did sell you that set! In the middle of the hype we did think "we should have held onto a set longer" but we were afraid of getting stuck with them like we did with the Alice in Wonderland Disneyland event pins. Just like I also had the Silver Cinderella Designer doll. I couldn't sell it for $200 at the time, so we traded it for the LE Blonde Rapunzel doll (not the designer one). My girlfriend was happy with the trade because she was keeping the Rapunzel doll, but I had no idea that just a month later I could have bought 5 Rapunzel dolls with that one Silver Cinderella!

We've also had the reverse happen to us. When a new pin came out and we had one to trade, we would get tons and tons of requests for it (and really good ones too!) and sometimes we thought "if we're getting offers like this the day after the release who knows what we could get later on!" Only to have the value plummet and have to beg people to take the pin away from us! We would always think "We should have taken that trade from so-and-so." but you live and learn!

My worse trade was Pin 7882: DLR Cast Haunted Mansion Hitchhiking Ghosts 2001 for Pin 4487: DLR - Upscale Compass Logo Boxed Set (5 Pins) that didn't have a box.
