This is good news to me if it is true.

Though they really need to go after those factories that make them, and I'm sure eBay isn't where the majority of sales are taking place anyway (I am guessing that award goes to Facebook or Instagram), it's still good to hear that they are at least taking some sort of action.

And also agree with David, they should be nabbing the scrapper sellers as well.

 
While we're wishing, I wish that after Disney went after the fantasy pin sellers (and the counterfeiters), they would recognize that the reason fantasy pins are doing so well is that there IS a market for really cool-looking pins (you know, ones that DON'T use stock photos and poses) and start making more of their own kick-a$$ pins and sell them on Disneystore.com.

Man, can I dream or what?
 

That's the whole reason fantasy pins took off in the first place.

You know it's great and all people hate on them, but I rather like them.

They ARE what Disney should be doing, and that;'s the sad part. But it's like any other fan art out there, it's a piece of art that is a part of what we wish would happen in that medium, representing the original piece in a way we love.

Disney knows you're going to buy it's merchandise no matter what, they don't have to go the extra mile.

You will buy clip art, YOU will buy reused poses, and so guess what, they DON'T NEED TO BE BETTER.

Because whatever it is you "collect" you will hoard it an Disney knows that.

Before Frozen came out how many DPF members had /every/ single piece of merchandise available? How many of you ordered it from other countries? I remember when the Japanese phone straps sold here on DPF for 50 - 60$.

Disney isn't going to make better pins.

You know why? Because they got people hooked years ago with auctions, Gomes, and even earlier DSF pins.

Fantasy pins didn't ruin that, Pin traders did. The moment people found out they could make a killing off of them, they came out in droves, and Disney had to meet that demand.

DSF is the BEST example of what is happening to Pin trading. Look at the Older Lion King pins, the UP pins, even older PTDS. They had fills and character, the quality was far superior, then PEOPLE ruined that, and Disney had to meet the need for their product.

When I first started pin trading I could take my grandma for brunch at DSF, sit down, buy a few marquees off of the rack and go home.

I can never take her back to a release again.

People's greed ruined pins, not fantasy pins. Is there greed with those? Sure.

But even if every person who makes fantasy pins were jailed today, it wouldn't make pins better.






And while we're at it Disney better take down Redbubble, Deviant art, Etsy, and all of Facebook.

They need to throw Snoffosan in prison for her crafts and cozies because they ruin the cozy market.

Lumpylover's shoes because Vans collectors will surely not know about them and may accidently buy them.

Purplemadms for her artwork, because obviously it ruins Disney prints.

Caw Caw Rawrs crochets dolls

Get all of those 50 - 200$ prints off deviant art. Because mass produced prints are killing Disney prints.

I know I'm not the only person with a redbubble, so i should go, a few others here too. My stickers and shirts are killing Disney apparel.

Oh Docfish, you're a supporter too, I remember you bought me a few really cute shirts from someones redbubble a while ago, so you should be gone as well.

Disney will NOT ever make what some people think is better pins/ like the popular fantasy ones.
Fingers crossed still, never know what crazy things people will do..

What we think or better yet want is not the only thing that should or dose guide the direction of big company's like Disney.
You could always argue that some of the best and most popular pins ever are the movie pins. They are exact Disney art work and need no new twist or turns to make them great..

I'm sorry to any I offend. There is always some of us on both sides of these kind of talks. In the end we all love disney and pins. So we learn and grow from these good discussions.

Technically nobody should be making money off of Disney character use without permission. Fan art is fine to me if it's not sold or mass produced. A lot of magazines and shows used to encourage it and even displayed it proudly. Hell, it's free advertising for them. Then people try to make Disney fan art to sell because they know it will sell, and that is a problem - if you want to sell art, make something unique, your own characters and designs, and work your butt off to make it popular on your own steam, don't leech off a big company's success. If you truly love Disney, you will make fan art without any thought towards selling it.

I am also not pointing at anyone. I was unaware that people were selling Disney art on DA - that stuff is supposed to be banned by the website. They used to have strict rules when I was active there and no fan art was allowed to be sold. People often got in trouble for trying to list fan art on the sales portion of their site. Apparently they are not doing their job either now.

Anyway, I understand why honest fantasy pin lovers do what they do. And believe it or not, I'm not against the idea of making your own pin at all (literally, making your own pin yourself, in your garage, without paying a company to mass produce it for trading, and keep it to yourself or gift to a friend - true fan art). It seems to me that most people though are all about getting their desired idea either flat out sold, or they want some sort of ego boost, knowing that their idea is in circulation, and knowing that a part of them will forever be traded and collected by others as a "Disney pin". That is wrong.

There are a lot of beautiful fantasy pins - I don't want to see fans selling these fake pins, I want to see Disney themselves sell the real versions! It pains me to see ideas that I've been wanting for so long, suddenly appear as fakes and I can't even have them, because I refuse to support fantasy pins in that way.

Collectibles and limited edition merchandise needs to be regulated by the company that owns the trademark(s).

I know that people are unhappy with all of the re-used Disney art in their pins, and quality issues (oh man, the quality issues), but the right thing to do here would be to stop buying it if it bothers you that much, and take a break from the hobby until they improve enough to meet your standards, not go about supporting illegal things to get your fix.

That is just my opinion.

Thank you, Ninpin. This is exactly what I was trying to say. Some of the pins are beautiful, and with scenes that I have wanted for years. But I'd rather buy pins with these scenes made directly by Disney that can hold an honorable place among my other Disney pins.

I think everybody would rather buy these pins from Disney, the problem is as you state, we have been waiting for years for Disney to do really good pins again. They choose not to do them. I am sorry but if Disney doesn't want to take my money somebody else will and they have nobody to blame but themselves. Disney seems to be making poorer quality pins now with very poor quality control. I have to wonder why they would do that. Is it so that the counterfeit/scrapper pins that are being sold are harder to tell the difference? Disney needs to start asking themselves some very hard questions and I don't see that happening any time soon.

I personally don't have interest in Fantasy Pins, but I am always a little annoyed to see "LE" on any fantasy pin. There is no control on those markets, it has been said in this thread, I can very well sell a fantasy pin as a LE100, with a high price, but actually produce 500 of them. People tend to apply the same rules for pricing on Fantasy pins as they do on official pins when it is not the same thing at all. The fanfic reference is a great one !
It might have an impact on prices getting lower as it increases the offer but for me it's definitely not the main cause. I think values are getting lower because limitations are getting higher, the Designer series is LE1000 this year, DLP is now LE 700, more and more LE 1000 on the disney stores and up to LE 5000 next year in US Parks. This has an impact, those pins are less "tradable" when you are not new to collecting and need pins to trade for LE100 or simply LE400 from DSF.
In France (I don't know how it is for you guys in the US), I also see more and more people that are not it it for the trade. They go to releases, buy one pin for them because they like it and will sell the second pin they buy close to cost, just to make a few bucks. Since they do not trade they do not understand the trade value matter.
I rarely sell (well I have one post with pins for sale right now so bad timing with that today, lol, but under normal circumpstances I don't ^^) but I am interested in pins keeping a stable value for trading. And since those people don't trade, it doesn't matter to them that they set the average sold prices on ebay too low for people to trade anything.
If the "old" pins value get lower too I don't mind the new one's value decreasing but it doesn't seem to go this way

This x a million!!!! At least, for the most part, FP are of good quality and you won't see them on CM lanyards. You wouldn't even believe the amount of people I see at WDW every time I'm there (twice a week) many knowingly and some not knowingly, dumping fakes on CM lanyards. Rarely, and I do mean rarely, do I see anyone trading a real pin to a CM.
That is much more sad than a hand full of FP.
 

I remember when DLR CM lanyards used to be full of great pins. Hidden Mickeys, rack pins, GWP, etc. Now it's a lot of blech.
 

Some may have forgot or not been around, but one of the big scrapper teams went to jail a while back. Sad part is one member was a x-CM. If you make to much money Uncle Sam will get you. It's easy to understand how things work. Disney will not go after scrapper lot sells. Other than sharks and strait jerks. Most people that take eBay lot of pins to park, do it because they don't know better and they also end up spending money at the parks so disney still wins.

The guys you see run around at first gate open and giving all fakes are both " shark and jerk" they know what they are doing and only care about them selfs.

last... We have got all our best pins from CM trades. It's all about how you treat them and how you go about looking for pins. If you only look for pins and your trip is all about pins... Guess what... Let down more than fun.. But the flip side is if you go to park for fun and family. You will find all the disney Magic you can handle. You can't make things happen, you need to let them just unfold before your eyes.
