Frozen Disney Store Merchandise, What are you looking forward to? (Contains Spoilers)

Oh I saw that too but I just thought it was a reference to Storm from Xmen since they have similar or complimentary powers.

I'm aggravated with people always pulling the race card with Disney; it's old now! Sure, a lot of them are "white," but I go by nationality.

Belle would be French.
Tiana is African-American.
Ariel, to me, would be Danish.
Mulan is Asian.
Rapunzel would be German.
Jasmine is Middle Eastern. (Okay, I probably got this one wrong.)
Pocahontas is Native American.
Merida is Scottish.

Okay, maybe I'm just weird??

There's actually an entire tumblr dedicated to this type of alternate art: http://racebentdisney.tumblr.com/

I totally agree. It just seems like such a shallow argument in my opinion. I never thought about what race any of the princesses were growing up. It didn't matter if they looked like me or not, it was their stories that always mattered and still matter to me :dunno:

Tumblr just...makes me cringe sometimes. Their whole Frozen hatred was just absurd. Its funny now though, watching them all descend slowly into admitting their love for it.

A lot of people where claiming it was sexist because Anna is "dumb" and Kristoff has to "show her how to do everything" (to which I just go...wait, what?). And they were claiming it was racist, not only for them being white (oh no, God forbid people from Norway are white), but more so because Kristoff's outfit is based on that of the Sami people. The Sami people are traditionally not-white, and they value reindeer very highly. And some people combined this with the Sami choir singing Vuele and are claiming Disney was "appropriating their culture," especially because they made Sven very slap-stick in humor.

My only response to that nonsense was, who are we to define family? All because Kristoff doesn't LOOK like a member of the Sami people doesn't mean he WASN'T one. We don't really know anything about him. But he dresses like them and waltzes around with a reindeer, so maybe he was like, adopted and then lost? To me, the film is about family, (take a look at Oaken, that is a debatable makeup), and how it can be defined in many ways, through many means.

There is so much I have to say about Tumblr. So, so much. But most of it just ends in sighs. I have honestly considered deleting my blog on there because of all this Frozen hatred. (Don't even get me started on the "braid phasing through Elsa's arm" debate).

Mulan is Chinese . Yeah that race thing people are always pulling with Disney but seem to ignore with every other movie is infuriating . I can't even remember the last time a live action movie featured 'nonwhite' characters as the lead., except for the yearly Tyler Perry movies.

LOL, thank you! I knew I'd get some wrong. As for the Tumblr people complaining about Kristoff's Sami look, aren't a few of them very pale with very pale hair? Like...Scandinavian.......maybe I'm wrong?

I'm Hispanic and am really crossing my fingers for a Hispanic princess one day! Belle was my favorite growing up and still is (for several different reasons) but I think something in me liked her as a child because she is a brown-haired princess... and as a kid, having a princess who had brown hair like me was a big deal!

I do think it's time for a Hispanic princess sometime in the near future (hell, I'd even be really super happy with an Animator small world doll) but another small part of me is scared of the idea because I worry they'd make her super stereotypical. I don't know.

People in the Hispanic community always go on and on about Sofia the first but OMG, she is NOT Hispanic!!! It irks me to no end when people at the store tell me "We love Sofia the first because my daughters name is Sofia, and she's half white and half Mexican just like Sofia the first!" Like... what?!?!? That's not true... and I literally hear it ALL of the time. I won't crush their spirits though lol. Also ever since Sofia the first came out, I've learned that almost every little girl in the world seems to be named Sofia...

Alright, tiny vent over, thanks for listening lol!

Thank you Steve!!

I can't wait to buy him...hopefully the next (and final) paycheck is good enough haha

And I have no idea. I'm just regurgitating what they spout on there. But in my experience, one person's invalid opinion can be tossed around as fact to thousands of people, thus influencing them negatively. That's how that whole "boycott Frozen" thing started I think.

If they're going by the name, then they are ridiculous. Sophia/Sofia is Greek, and can also be used for Italian names. I think I'll jump the bandwagon here, where's my Italian Disney princess??! Oh, Disney..

I don't think it's just the name, I remember there being a whole lot of talk when the show first came out about her being the "first Latina princess!!!" I don't know WHERE that info came from but it was a really big deal. A lot of people complained when they eventually saw her because she's light skinned with blue eyes and therefore was too "white." And there are Hispanic people like this but they wanted her darker, I don't know.

Then Disney came out saying oops, she's not Latina at all but nobody pays attention to that after all the original hooplah...

And I have no idea where the half-white, half-Hispanic story came from...

It makes me so so so so angry too! Disney animation studios actually follow my blog on tumblr (I freaked out hugely when I found out) so I'm always super praising frozen  cause I don't want them to think all of tumblr hate it (which is not so bad now). It makes me extremely mad when I see the posts about the animation being poor because of the whole hair thing and it's like DID YOU EVEN WATCH THE MOVIe?! It was amazing the animation was incredible and that one little thing made you say the whole movie was bad! I also read the reason they did it was cause it kept going off model when animating it or something but I don't know the truth on it, not that it even matters. Like people said it ruined the whole movie for them and I'm sorry but if that ruined the entire movie for you, you are pathetic  . I agree about always thinking "should I delete my blog" cause the frozen fandom irritates me a lot too  but that's my own problem cause I love frozen so much, it's become my favourite movie ever, that I hate what the fandom is doing to the characters etc like some of the ships...

I just want to protect it fiercely hahaha

And Anna and Elsa is Scandinavian! The movie is inspired from Norwedgian nature and the names are all Norwedgian/Swedish.

there are so many girls named Anna and Elsa here so this movie will be crazy popular.

Im afraid my girls will, maby not forget Ariel and Belle, but at least add Anna and Elsa as favorite princesses. I really do love the sisterly love though so I think its cute. But it is expensive princesses to like.

even though my gilrs are twins one of them is 7 minutes older so she is the big sister and she likes Elsa the moste and the little sister likes Anna the most. So cute!

Oh, I see. It's a real shame people have to act like that! You know it's not the children (who these cartoons where created for) who are complaining about their skin-tone, eye color, etc .. It's these darn adults who enjoy drama! Okay, this is the last post off-topic on this, I swear!

Yeah the Jim Shore figures were posted somewhere lots of people like them.

That colouring book is cool you find some awesome things!

I didn't even pick up on the animation mistake (not even sure if that's the correct term) so I had to watch a video like 10 times to see what it was.

I too can see the the thing about the movie not having poc but sexist? Its about two strong women in my eyes

check out redbubble.com They have tons of non Disney merch of Disney characters mostly tees

I do too so your not alone in that respect. I always think about where the story comes from and takes place as to who they are and their nationalities.

I just saw DAC Kristoff on the site. Im going to try to get him from my local store today first. I hope they have him and if not that he doesn't sell out online before I can get back online. I doubt he will though. HA
