Frozen Disney Store Merchandise, What are you looking forward to? (Contains Spoilers)
Speaking of the controversy raised before Frozen came out, I was shocked when I found out what some users at Tumblr did when they saw Elsa's first promotional image:
Apparently fans were upset to find out we were having another white, blue eye-color, blonde princess, so they went ahead and turned Elsa into a princess of color. Aaagh the people these days *facepalm*.

I'm aggravated with people always pulling the race card with Disney; it's old now! Sure, a lot of them are "white," but I go by nationality.
Belle would be French.
Tiana is African-American.
Ariel, to me, would be Danish.
Mulan is Asian.
Rapunzel would be German.
Jasmine is Middle Eastern.
Pocahontas is Native American.
Merida is Scottish.
Okay, maybe I'm just weird??

Mulan is Chinese. Yeah that race thing people are always pulling with Disney but seem to ignore with every other movie is infuriating . I can't even remember the last time a live action movie featured 'nonwhite' characters as the lead., except for the yearly Tyler Perry movies.

People in the Hispanic community always go on and on about Sofia the first but OMG, she is NOT Hispanic!!! It irks me to no end when people at the store tell me "We love Sofia the first because my daughters name is Sofia, and she's half white and half Mexican just like Sofia the first!" Like... what?!?!? That's not true... and I literally hear it ALL of the time. I won't crush their spirits though lol. Also ever since Sofia the first came out, I've learned that almost every little girl in the world seems to be named Sofia...
Alright, tiny vent over, thanks for listening lol!
How is Frozen sexist or racist? Silly Tumblr.
If they're going by the name, then they are ridiculous. Sophia/Sofia is Greek, and can also be used for Italian names. I think I'll jump the bandwagon here, where's my Italian Disney princess??! Oh, Disney..
Tumblr just...makes me cringe sometimes. Their whole Frozen hatred was just absurd. Its funny now though, watching them all descend slowly into admitting their love for it.
A lot of people where claiming it was sexist because Anna is "dumb" and Kristoff has to "show her how to do everything" (to which I just go...wait, what?). And they were claiming it was racist, not only for them being white (oh no, God forbid people from Norway are white), but more so because Kristoff's outfit is based on that of the Sami people. The Sami people are traditionally not-white, and they value reindeer very highly. And some people combined this with the Sami choir singing Vuele and are claiming Disney was "appropriating their culture," especially because they made Sven very slap-stick in humor.
My only response to that nonsense was, who are we to define family? All because Kristoff doesn't LOOK like a member of the Sami people doesn't mean he WASN'T one. We don't really know anything about him. But he dresses like them and waltzes around with a reindeer, so maybe he was like, adopted and then lost? To me, the film is about family, (take a look at Oaken, that is a debatable makeup), and how it can be defined in many ways, through many means.
There is so much I have to say about Tumblr. So, so much. But most of it just ends in sighs. I have honestly considered deleting my blog on there because of all this Frozen hatred. (Don't even get me started on the "braid phasing through Elsa's arm" debate).

I don't think it's just the name, I remember there being a whole lot of talk when the show first came out about her being the "first Latina princess!!!" I don't know WHERE that info came from but it was a really big deal. A lot of people complained when they eventually saw her because she's light skinned with blue eyes and therefore was too "white." And there are Hispanic people like this but they wanted her darker, I don't know.
Then Disney came out saying oops, she's not Latina at all but nobody pays attention to that after all the original hooplah...
And I have no idea where the half-white, half-Hispanic story came from...
The anthropology major in me is fascinated by the Sami people now. http://www.utexas.edu/courses/sami/dieda/hist/genetic.htm.LOL, thank you! I knew I'd get some wrong. As for the Tumblr people complaining about Kristoff's Sami look, aren't a few of them very pale with very pale hair? Like...Scandinavian.......maybe I'm wrong?

I too can see the the thing about the movie not having poc but sexist? Its about two strong women in my eyesLOL +1
I agree I think that some people just try finding a way to complain about everything LOL, I can see where they are getting the racist comment from (as the cast was predominantly Caucasian, but then again wouldn't Mulan have been racist by those standards then? LOL) still trying to figure out how the movie is sexist though? still that is funny haha
check out redbubble.com They have tons of non Disney merch of Disney characters mostly teesNever has there been a quote more true... I just recently turned 20 and have been so reflective about the fact that Disney officially no longer caters to me as much as when I was a child. It is especially hard with Frozen because I've been looking forward to it for so long! There just isn't much out there for adults (let alone men!) with the Disney label on it.
I do too so your not alone in that respect. I always think about where the story comes from and takes place as to who they are and their nationalities.I'm aggravated with people always pulling the race card with Disney; it's old now! Sure, a lot of them are "white," but I go by nationality.
