FRUSTRATED!! What's the point of a pretrade if the person backs out???

So this is the second time that I've setup a pretrade on the forum for some DSF pins and both people back out on me once they have the pins in their hands. It is just so frustrating that people don't honor their trades once they receive the pins because the ebay prices go up as people freak out about the prices. Why waste my time setting up a trade if you aren't going to go through with it in the end? It's especially frustrating because if I wanted to spend the money on the pins I could've bought them before the release for cheaper. What are your thoughts about pretrades and do you think a person is obligated to the trade if it was made in advance? Do you believe negative feedback should be left if a pretrade was made and the person getting the pins decided to backout after they got the pins? I remember when the Princess Designer Pins came out, Tanya (talesofbofv) setup a co-op for the pins and still honored the prices even though the prices skyrocketed. She didn't inflate the prices due to the increase in ebay prices and I really, really appreciated that and still remember it to this day that she did that. Sorry for venting but I'm just really frustrated right now.

I would leave bad feedback to warn others about pre-trading with this person. I sure would hate to know that someone knew that a person usually backs out and not tell me while I put all of my eggs in that basket. :soapbox:

If addresses were exchanged and you already sent pins, its a set trade. If you had not, and ANYWHERE in your communications, the person uses words like "If, Maybe, Unless, might," etc....well, they backed out. It sucks, I know. In the future, get it set in stone, exchange addresses, maybe offer to send your pins in advance... And personally, I would never trade with that person again. The only reason I know of (without understanding the entire situation) is that they didn't get there in time and just dont want to admit it. I wouldn't back out of a pre trade even if the pin is suddenly worth hundreds , well ok, maybe hundreds, i am not a saint... But the going rates are about 100 give or take. thats just bad business and will harm a persons rep as an honest trader.

Well, if I had set up a pretrade in advance of knowing that the line was going to be 19 hours I would have backed out too. BUT, I would have backed out when I figured that out before going. Not afterwards. You are right. That is bad trading.

Here is the sticky part. Are you sure they actually were able to get them? I only ask because I had something set up, and she was not able to get extra pins, just a couple for her, but not even all the ones she wanted. :-(

If your sure, then yes, I would say they deserve negative feedback.

When I offer to pick something up, I let a person know that it will be the original price of the pin, actual tax and actual shipping. I don;t usually trade in advance, but I do let people know that I am only going to try to get them. I cannot guarantee anything. I have been pretty successful though.

I try to help as many out as I can and I never up charge when purchasing pins at the park. That is just me though. I know there are many others on DPF too, but they have to be careful or the sharks will be begging them for pins and then they will turn around and seel them on Ebay. :-(

By the way, once I get a pin for someone, it is theirs to do as they wish. If they decide to sell it at an up-charge or trade the same way, it is up to them. I do not expect them to report back to me.

Yup, PP is right . I have had traders contact me about a trade and then back out . I was told unless addresses are exchanged, it's not a commitment . No matter how hurt or upset you may be , you can't ruin that traders creditability .
And I could say the same about you thekaratekid, remember when I asked about the beggar woman from BATB, you PMd and asked what I thought it would be worth ? I gave you an honest answer as I had gotten a DA 100 Beast Transformation pin for $75.00 and I never heard back . So why ask is my ???

I have to agree with the address exchange though, if you did not exchange addresses then you will have to place this person in your little black book and start searching for those pins. Best of luck

I would leave Neg. feedback and let others know about this persons trading etiquette. As long as you know he/she was there and got the pins (which from the way you are saying it they were and did receive them).

Addresses were exchanged and I informed both parties that I dealt with (two different releases) that I would ship as soon as they confirmed they received the pins in hand. I know for a fact both parties were able to get the pins either because it was added to their trades list or they knowingly informed me that they received the pins and is backing out. It wasn't like I was trading crap pins for the pins. I was giving up my Rapunzel pins for the Brave pins that I know I could've easily traded with someone else. If a MOD recommends negative feedback then I will definitely leave negative feedback.

I'm really sorry that happened. But, IMHO, I think in the long run the Tangled pins will be worth more than the Brave ones...

If a person was unable to get a pin because it sold out, I wouldn't necessarily leave neg feedback. These releases are taking people by surprise, and a bunch of people are getting caught out.

But if the person got a pin, and then backed out, then I think neg feedback is warranted. If you accept a deal, with addresses even, you have to live with it, even if a better deal might be elsewhere. Just like with these Trade Auctions. If the pin obtainer doesn't like it, they shouldn't do pre-trades.

Brave::

• is a fad for the moment, a trend. It might turn classic, it might not.
• the reviews are not 100%.
• the pins are pretty and will likely hold decent value, but I doubt any will be worth 400+.

Tangled::

• is 2+ years in an still going strong, is considered a classic already.
• People, adults and kids still love it.
• Pins have gone up in value, not down, like most movies.

Keep your Tangled. I regret my Tangled losses considerably.

I agree with that 110%. I pre-paid someone for all 4 earlier this week, but they were just able to get the Merida on Stained Glass, which they offered me at the same price, but since we were looking more for the Merida on Angus, I passed. I do not fault them in any way and am grateful someone was willing to try for without the crazy mark-up.

I (we) are truly sorry that you are frustrated and feel it may be a useless endeavor to arrange pretrades. There will always be a bad situation in trading at some point, perhaps several, but there are many great ones to outweigh the bad. For my husband and myself, it really is no longer about the pins, but the friendships we have gained through our hobby. Pins are the bonus!

I will pipe in on this one as pretrades thru DPF and PinPic's, including presales from Ebay have fallen by the wayside for us as well.

First off, these recent pin releases have been unpredictable. Both at DLR for the Piece of Disney Movie pins and recent DSF releases. Who knew a Friday release for a movie that has not come out would generate such a following of fans? Or could it be opportunistic sellers betting on the movie's popularity? Or that they might be great traders and want in on the action? Either way, 150 plus people stood in line 18+ hours on a Friday was not foreseen, at least by me.

Secondly, and I say this carefully, "greed" is a big part in obtaining popular pins or a reason for someone to back out on a trade. Yes, some do this as a business and it is their livelihood. I understand this and it is their right. But those who claim to be traders, join a pin "trading" community, enjoy the social aspect while trying to enhance their collections, yet quote ebay prices as a bases for a trade seems "greedy" to me. That's my two cents.

Because of greed, setting up pretrades and buying pins presale can be very iffy. In my particular instances, a pretrade was set up for PODM pins. I agreed to mail the pins once the other trader had their pins in hand. I was notified the day of the release, a Thursday, that they did indeed got the pins and would be mailing on Monday. So we exchanged addresses and I prepared my package to mail. I also saw that they put the same pins on their trades list, perhaps having bought extras to trade. On Sunday, I receive a message that they were unable to get the pins! I checked their trades lists and the pins were removed. In short, after we hashed our our differences, I find out later that the same trader sent the pins that we agreed upon to another trader that I happened to know for what I would call "a better deal."

As for Ebay presales, I have bought pins only to be told they did not get the pins. Yes, my money was refunded, but shortly after, I saw the same seller offering the pins at a higher price! Made my blood boil.

It is not right for people to back out of a "confirmed" trade, but if a trader does not have the pin in hand, some consideration should be made that the trade may not go through, whether stated verbally, or implied. Things do happen.

Negative feedback seems harsh if truly they did not get the pins for circumstances beyond their control. If you can confirm they did get the pins and simply backed out on a confirmed trade, negative feedback is in order. But mostly, some of these situations can simply be put on your own mental list with a red flag by their name. Public scrutiny seems extreme.

I think that's the risk involved with a pre-trade. Always plan for the worst, hope for the best.

In the end, life goes on. I'm sure the person who backed out didn't do it to spite you.

This is why I won't pre trade for something. If I want the pin badly enough I will eventually get my hands on it.
