Good way to remove rust from pins

Hello,
I spent about 20 min. today cleaning rust off a pin before getting out bidded. These people are crazy someone put the bid up to $326.00. Oh sorry, going off on a tangent. What I did is mixed baking soda and water into a paste. I let it set on the rust spots for a min. or so, took a terry cloth and/or micro fiber cloth and rubbed the rust off. Had to repeat a couple of times on some of the rust spots. It also had a little rust on the side of the pin so I just put some baking soda mix on my finger and rubbed the side of the pin. Then rubbed the side again with the terry cloth and baking soda mix. When I was done I wiped the pin down with a new cloth to make sure I got all the backing soda off. It took off all the rust so I'm a happy camper.
