Have you ever had Pin Regret??
I regret trading a lot when I started this hobby. Basically because most traders took advantage of my ignorance. That's also why I'm extremely paranoid and picky when I trade something that has a higher value.
Specifically, I regret trading DLRP Anna & Olaf. Not because I liked the pin but because it was a shitty experience and I realised I traded under value (basically because I was tired of the situation and just wanted to get rid of it). And I regret trading the UK Rapunzel & Maximus.
your advice will be written down for future references, me and my gf are hard to shy away from a situation like that, its really bad, but i guess its better to be a open book right? It's not a huge regret, but my first trade was very lopsided in the other person's favour as I sent an LE 500 UK exclusive and 2 full price OE Paris pins in return for three pins that were in a clearance sale on the US DS website. I didn't know better at the time although I did notice that the total of what I was spending equated to a fair bit more than they were. I wish I'd had the guts to say something at the time. Ho hum, you live and learn. I try and make sure trades are fair now whenever I arrange them, and have felt much happier about trades I've done since.
The only pin I regret trading is one I gave my daughter. I've tried to get it back, but she's a tough negotiator.(We did have to have a talk this morning about how it's not okay to shark her little brother. She thought about it for a while and then of her own free will gave back the pins she'd taken from him.)
Uh-uh. :nono: I'm on to you, Grailslayer. I've been zapped enough.
when i was a newbie i went to a trading event and someone convinced me that trading the le 300 jessica jumbo as tink was a good trade for an le 1000 and open edition hercules . i regret that i didn't trade that harder. but live and learn
I bought this pin at DLR- for cost- and would wear it on my lanyard at the park. Back when I only had a lanyards worth of pins. I ran into a gal from Japan who had Winnie the Pooh pins from Japan on her lanyard. So we traded. I wasn't trading on-line yet so at the time, had no other way to get Japan pins. I love the Pooh pin I received but later, when I was online, the Pooh pin would have been fairly easy to buy or trade for. But the SB pin cost me a pretty penny to get back.
I have so many pin regrets I just try to suppress those memories...
I bought a full set of Summer of Champions in 2008. I wasn't a proper collector back then and I traded them all with CMs bar one. I don't remember what I got for them, but I'd say it was all scrappers. I know the Summer of Champion pins aren't that great and I'm not all that bothered about them, but I regret trading so many real pins for scrappers!
I have three big ones:
Back when I first started trading, I actually traded a Timon & Pumbaa Wild About Safety pin because I didn't live near Disneyland at the time and didn't think I'd be able to complete the set. I still kick myself about that!
Another one from my early days of pin trading, I had a Stitch pin that a friend gave me and I really liked but found a cast member who had another pin I really liked (can't even remember what that one was), so I traded my Stitch pin for it. Looking back I really wish I had bought another pin from the store to trade and kept the pin my friend gave me.
And a few years ago, before I knew about pin sharks, I traded the I Won't Say I'm In Love musical moments pin for the Maximus pin that comes in the Rapunzel rack set. :/
I traded the cutest pin ever. Stitch and the yeti looking at each other and the yeti is very sternly eyeing him. Stitch is hiding a snowball behind his back. I traded it for something else I really wanted so didn't feel terrible about it but then really had to hustle to find that one again.
Kim, you cracked me up. My teenager does this to her sister all the time. I finally had to say, "No more trading."
Also, I only "give" my children my pins with the condition that if I want it back or they don't want it anymore, I
get it back. lol
As far as trading regrets. I usually have them a lot because I hate making decisions.
I also got a laugh out of this too! If pin trading had existed when I was kid, I probably would have done the same to my sister. Good thing I found the hobby when we were older, wiser, and kinder. =)
I made so many mistakes when I first started. I traded LE 100's for "pretty princesses" and then asked for crazy things when online trading because I was always asked for crazy things in person, or I would make ridiculous offers that were so over the top, because I didn't want to be turned down and then I would wish that I hadn't offered. I was so confused when I started and I can't say that I'm that great at offers now...I really prefer if someone else sets up the offer and then I can just decide if I want the trade or not. I guess I still have a lot to learn. I also like to think about it for a little while (which is what makes conventions and meets hard. (or maybe I'm just lousy at decisions!)
The one I regret the most was my PODM with red Pascal and Rapunzel in the forest. I sold it here, to someone who said it was their grail scene, I assume they were telling the truth. I got a lot of money for it, so I'm not super bummed about it. But looking back it was my favorite of the PODM's I got. I asked my wife to pick her favorite and she chose Rapunzel healing Flynn's hand with all her hair glowing. I liked the Red Pascal most. But it's ok.
I think everybody has a regret or two or ten depending on how long you have been trading. There have been lots of pins that became much more popular later then when I traded them. I try to put those our of my mind.
Kim, I gotta know, what is the pin you gave your daughter?
Uh-uh. :nono: I'm on to you, Grailslayer. I've been zapped enough.

Exactly! The first three years of trading I was a fool making the dumbest trades and then I stopped being so naive and mellowed out but still made many many regrets...
There are pins I regret not buying when I had the chance, but not ones I've traded. When I went to the Walt Disney Family Museum last year, I debated between the official logo pin and the pin of the logo with Oswald. In my souvenir pin collection I tend towards pins with vintage, black-and-white Mickey, so I could have gone either way. I went with the official logo, but in retrospect, I wish I had gotten the Oswald one instead >_<
Hey disnerd, I do have two of them if you are still missing them...
man, my girlfriend first told me about scrappers before i had even went to the parks as a pin trader,I've never seen the set, and they don't have to be good pins, just your first ones that always matter!
They weren't my first. I took up pin trading in DLP were there were no scrapper issues at the time so I knew nothing about them. Then I traded in London a few times too and I don't think I ended up with any fakes then either.. It wasn't until I got to WDW a year later I started making bad decisions!
