Sorry if this is in the wrong place or if there is a thread about this somewhere already.

My si&am pin is in hand, yey...

I'm about to send it as my first trade to the usa, I've followed advice about how to package it etc so it doesn't. Spoilt in transit.

Now I'm wondering how do I send it (this might sound like the most stupid question in the word lol) does it just go as regular post after its weighed or do I need to ask for something specific? I've never sent overseas before.

Any help would be great so I can get it mailed asap
 
Yes, regular post will do - sometimes Air Mail is an option, but that may be how regular post is done anyway (ask your postal worker). Chalon, Sophia or Charlie (among others) would also know since they have done lots of packages to the USA.
 
I have only shipped once to the UK but the post office had me fill out a form stating what I was sending and the value of the item. I was told not to value too high or fees would be applied. Not sure if this holds true coming back in this direction. Your local post office should be able to help.
 
What Steve said keep it regular. That's how we send ours and we send at least a couple packages a week :)

Just take it into the post office they will give you a customs form fill it out stick it on and then hand it over :)
Will probably cost £3.50 if it is only light. Then hand it on over and they will ship it out for you!

Hey!!

Yeh like Steve said, just take it into the PO and they will send it international for you, I like to use the self-serve machines because then you know you're not being over charged (that's just a personal vendetta I have with the PO) but it's pretty simple.

Thank you all so much, I just wasn't sure if there was more too it. Sending it normally and filling out a customs form sounds easy enough. I will go tomorrow and keep this thread just incase.

If using the Post Office counter, first say you want to send an Airmail Letter to the US. Then the envelope will be weighed weight will be checked and according to this weight price will vary. However due to changes in Post Office rules / depending on the person you speak to they may identify it as a small packet/parcel so expect to pay from £3 upwards roughly.

You will need to complete a CN22 Customs Form to say what the item description/value is and sign and date it. This is also available to print from the Royal Mail website. You do not need a customs form to send within Europe. If you are also sending other items abroad in future you may like to refer to the restricted/prohibited items list. If you need help finding the info just let me know :)

Also while you are at the post office ask if you can have a few of the customs forms and some airmail stickers, this will also save you time for in future too.

I have always used Airmail to send pins overseas :)

YES sent it first class airmail,mine usually cost more as I pkg mine very well,do not want damaged pins going overseas,do not like them coming to the USA to me eitherBut wrapping them should be OK....just do not use long white business envelopes,those will get damaged in shipping.
 
I've kept it in the bubble wrap pocket it came in and put it in a brown bubble envelope and stuck it to the inside of the envelope with a little sellotape so it doesn't rattle around. It seems snug and secure
 
Sounds good. I wish it was cheaper/easier to mail between Europe and U.S. I just mailed you a pin Laura and it was $9.45. It's only $2.07 to anywhere in U.S. for me for 1 pin so it' sa $7.43 premium to mail to U.K. I thought it was only a $5 difference. Sucks worse for you guys though because of the limited number of traders within the UK to mail to. US to US is minimal. I used to get away with $0.97 as a letter but now they are stricter on the bubble envelopes being packages.

Just a tip for the future; if you include a note in with your lil brown envelope, then you can send it as letter post, which is cheaper.
This is great if you're sending 1 or 2 pins (ie less than 100g in weight) and I've noticed no difference in arrival time or anything.

I also keep a supply of customs stickers, airmail stickers & address labels (pre-printed with my address) so I have minimum waiting time at the PO :)
 
Thank you everyone for your help. I posted the pin this morning, cost £3.50 can't wait for it to arrive at its destination.

I send mine as a letter as its cheaper (£1.88) and it always gets there in the same time usually. For this using self serve is the best option, otherwise they charge you £3.50. I know many others who do it that way too. Just remember to stick an air mail sticker on it too.
