Heroes & villains collection first look
I don't think I am going to preorder the set like I did last time. The first set I received was in horrific shape with water damage all over the slip covers and the dolls looked like they'd survived a hurricane. I had to send it back, and it took forever to get my replacement set. I don't like that you have to wait until ALL the dolls are out before you get your pre-ordered set, and that if something is wrong with one doll you have to send them ALL back, even the good ones, for a replacement. I am going to take my chances at the store each week and, then online, if I don't get picked for the in-store lottery. At least that way, if I get one damaged one, I don't have to give up my other dolls.

Yeah, same here. The wait was excruciating - I remember literally holding up a magnifying glass to each doll to check for imperfections once the set finally arrived, lol. Fortunately, it helps that I don't want every one in this wave. I all ready know I'll be passing on Snow and the Witch (might have gone for it had it been the Evil Queen, not the hag). And if Ariel and Ursula turn out to be accurate, I may just pass on that set, as well. That helps to make it a bit less stressful, too.

As of right now, I only plan on getting Peter and Hook. If they turn out to not be real (and i'm starting to think they aren't for some reason) or they don't impress me, then I probably won't be going for any of them. I may get the Mother Gothel and Rapunzel set if its beautiful, but that's just a maybe. Even if I don't get any of them, I am still really excited to see all of the dolls revealed and it just means that I can save money for other things.

Im all about the snow white set! it looks amazing! Im very happy to see the old hag in there! and the print is beautiful on sw dress. Id love to see more of the underused characters. not so hyped on the frozen set.

I actually really like Snow's dress. I think the flowers were a risky choice, but it looks beautiful in a different sort of way to me. I think it may come off as cheap if the pattern is printed, though.

Yeah, I think it all depends on what it looks like in person. It actually reminds me of Briar Rose's skirt from last year's set --- I wasn't so sure about it at first, but now I like how it looks.

If the rumours for the other two doll sets in this wave turn out to be true (Rapunzel/Gothel, Peter Pan/Hook) all I have to say is....

HOW COULD THEY NOT DO JASMINE AND JAFAR THIS YEAR IT IS ALADDIN'S DIAMOND EDITION YEAR FOR CRYING OUT LOUD WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING DISNEY AND ALSO THAT LINE UP OF CHARACTERS IS VERY WHITE (all of them, not just Snow, if you catch what I'm saying).

If they continue the heroes/villains theme next year, I'm betting my money they're going to shoehorn in all the poc characters just like they did last year with the princesses sans Jasmine

As far as I have heard it will be Ariel/Ursula, Rapunzel/Gothel, Hans/Elsa, Snow/Hag, Peter/Hook. Could be wrong though. Jasmine is not included because this year's "Art of..." is gonna be Jasmine and there will be separate dolls and merch for her.

How many hours do you guys think these dolls will last.do you think that these will last at least an hour?

I personally think if the rumors are true on which dolls will be a part of the lineup then all of them will be gone within an hour. But it is always a guessing game how long they stay on the website, so I would recommend that anyone who really wants one of these should be right at their computers for the moment they first come out, then grab one as soon as they see a link. :)

It's the Peter Pan and Captain Hook rumor that I'm not a hundred percent convinced of. A) They're not fairy tale characters, they come from a novel by J. M. Barrie, so including them in this line up wouldn't make much sense in that regard. B) While an all male set would be a breath of fresh air, they would certainly stick out (unless they DO include Anna and Kristoff with this wave, then those two will be the oddballs). C) The Disney staff could do a lot with the design of Hook's coat, but Pan's outfit is kinda... plain, it will probably end up being similar to the look of Pocahontas' outfit last year.

Also, in regards to point A, I know that's more than likely the reason we're not gonna be seeing any dolls from Tarzan. The property doesn't belong to Disney, but to Edgar Rice Burroughs' estate. Disney just purchased the rights for the movie and the Broadway show, as well as it's inclusion in KHI (notice that the Deep Jungle world never appeared in any of the sequel or prequel games). Therefore, any LE dolls would have to be approved by both the Burroughs family and Disney. Yes, it's possible for the two to come to an agreement, but I don't think people looking for those dolls should get their hopes up for something that will never happen.

I wish they would just give approval for ONE set of Tarzan and Jane, I'd be happy even with classic dolls at this point but a deluxe set or LE Jane or cpuple would be nice.

Great info, thanks, I didn't know. It's a shame we cannot see more merchandasing for that reason... I personally would love an Animators doll of Jane and also, of course, a Tsum Tsum set... I would love to see a Jane LE doll, I just love the character...

Yeah, most of Disney's characters were from public domain stories, or original creations. Most of Tarzan's stories are public domain now, but the estate had the foresight to trademark the name Tarzan. Still, it seems there has be some contract allowing more merchandising. I'm thinking Disney just doesn't want to pay more for something that isn't too popular to begin with when they already have quite a large area from which to choose when designing merchandise. Also, they got kind of burned on the John Carter thing, so maybe they just want to stay way from ERB properties. I think if they were more profitable it'd be a different story. Also, dolls are more dominated by female consumers and Tarzan was more male centered, although it seems fairly gender neutral overall. It's just not comparable to princess type movies. We don't see a lot doll and figure type merchandise from the movies that centered more around the male characters (excluding comic books, but those are unoriginal properties as well, for the most part, and there's already a ton of merch for them).

There are a lot of animated movies from the 70's and 80's that we'll likely never see merchandised and we'll certainly not see dolls. Most of those movies were more male centered, and there's no profit for dolls, like with the princess type movies. I actually like the darkness of the Black Cauldron when I was a kid, but I know it's not appealing to most and really not something Disney wants to push. A lot of kid movies had quite a dark theme, or undertone, from the '80's, but I don't think Disney wants us to draw attention to it now. There's no profit in it and they project a different image today that doesn't work with it.

Black Cauldron was awesome, but I think most of the fans were turned off by the fact that it was vastly different from the book series. Sure, it got Lloyd Alexander's stamp of approval as an enjoyable movie, but I'm not sure how many people knew that when it was released in theaters originally.

The full collection should be revealed either tomorrow or next week. The 2013 designer line was revealed on August 1st, which was around a week before the expo that year.

Slightly OT I just bought a OOAK Jane Animator and she's super cute! I'll try post a pic of my stuff once she arrives (make a Tarzan thread perhaps)

from the 11th august, the disney store Europe will sell the disney store pin's on tuesday instead of thursday... Yeah... Same day as the tsum tsum, the Limited dolls, designers dolls... It's not a joke. Disney store loves to torture us.

I gave up hoping for new Tarzan merch long ago (the vinylmation set was a pleasant surprise), so I never had any hope for LE Tarzan/Jane dolls. Been toying with the idea of just making my own, but I never seem to find the time to get started...

I'd love to see them do other movies though. They're redo the Princesses to the point where people are going to get tired of them. There are so many other characters that deserve attention.

At least its something. Both the shirt and compact are really nice, but I wish it was merch of characters we haven't seen yet. Man I was really hoping we would get some information on the actual dolls or the 17" Jasmine though.
