I was always wondering, I've notice a lot of folks have a angle you go for (Disney Character) my wife current going for jack but me one the other hand I don't have a certain character I'm going for, is this weird? I look at a pin if it bring a moment I had with my dad I buy or trade but if I have no feeling then I pass is this weird?

No, I understand. It's like people say your UP collector or a Rapunzel collector. I know people say you should limit ect... But I would like to have one or two nice ones of movies or characters that strike me. Some more then others.

I have some pins in my collection that have special meanings to me, they don't fit in with my collection but they came from a friend or remind me of fun times. At the end of the day it's your collection and you collect what you want.

It's nice that there is a story behind each pin for you. Enjoy your pins and your memories :)

i like jack. but i collect anything that i like at the time and makes me or the fam happy.

The advice I was given before starting this hobby (besides run the other way, LOL) was since there were thousands upon thousands of pins already in existence; focusing on a niche, certain character, ride, etc, was a good way to start since it gave the collection focus.

As we grew and learned, we created pages in the binders to expand the collection based off of pins we just like, pins that mean something to say when we visited WDW, etc, but we still have 2 binders each of Scrooge McDuck, Star Tours/Disney Themed Star Wars, and Sorcerer Mickey

I have two collections. One is of a very specific niche: pins based on Jules Verne films and attractions (i.e.: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Tokyo Disneysea's Mysterious Island, Space Mountain: Mission 2) but mostly only with Disney characters on them. The other is my memento collection, which are pins of parks, tours and events I've been to. My Verne collection is a nice pasttime but I'm not really emotionally attached to them. If I ever sold the set I probably wouldn't really miss it. The memento set has memories and experiences attached to it, and I don't think it would really have much value except for what it means to me.

That said, I'm kind of half-heartedly starting another collection of Main Street pins with Disney characters on them. We'll see where that goes.

There are collectors that like a little of everything and those who like one or two themes. Having one or two themes keeps the collection at a managable level in terms of cost and space. But if you have really strong will power and can say no, then just collect pins that are interesting to you. My wants list is specific to my collection but when I go to trading events I see new pins that I wasn't even aware of thier existence and like or I trade to help the other person obtain something they need for their collection.

I love chip and dale but there are soooo many pins! I am currently pairing that collection down to focus on Dumbo and my cats. Dumbo is a sentimental collection for me, and my cats is well I have six real cats at home and Disney cats remind me of them. I am also attempting Main Street Electrical Parade pins to surround my only real Disney collectible from when I was a kid. The picture record. I think it is good to have a focus but pins are pretty and if it feels right then go with it.

It's all about the look of the pin for me...edition size usually doesn't matter although nice LE pins are definitely more desirable in my opinion. I also like to buy complete sets. Pluto is my favorite...dog lover here. As far as movies go The Little Mermaid and Rapunzel are my favorites. I just don't like pins with too much wording or date specific/holiday specific wording. I want to be able to wear my pins any time of year and anywhere. If I get something that says "Happy Thanksgiving 2001" it kinda limits when I can wear it not to mention the year is now more than 10 years ago lol. IDK just me...

My main collections are Beauty and the Beast and Lady and the Tramp... But, I also love Stitch and Villains, so sometimes I like to pick up something I like for them as well... I don't really limit myself though, if a pin strikes my fancy and makes me happy, I get it. For instance, I have one random Dumbo pin

I have a lanyard of misc pins that don't fit into my collection but I don't want to trade or sell. My main collection is Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and The Little Mermaid. I also collect all the Disney princesses. However, I am only willing to spend more than $50 on pins in my main collection. I have mostly open edition pins of the other princesses.

I have a few focused collections, but I also have a Misc section for the pins I don't quite know what to do with but I like. I'm also starting to try to finish certain sets now that I have a few of them before I start new ones (right now, it's the Haunted Mansion Magazines and the 2012 DLR Attraction Posters). I find that helps me to figure out what to trade for next since there are so many pins to choose from!

I have different characters that I collect. I'm not a completist, I buy or trade for what I like.
My main collection is Beauty And The Beast and Tinkerbell, but have some Lady And The Tramp and Tangled.

You will eventually start to notice a pattern to the pins you "like" the best... either a certain art style, or something else that makes them somewhat similar.... Theres more than just a character or attraction or movie...

stained glass
hinged pins
3D pins
pin on pin elements
specific artists (gomes comes to mind)
specific manufacture (like DSF or WDI)
mystery box series
certain colors as the main element
funny looking
wierd
obscure

loads of different ways to specify what you like. you will eventually find what you like the best. :)

I don't think that's weird. :3 I have an angle with Sword in the Stone, but that's because I have such a history with the story. I have a thing with a merlin because he is my idol and one day I will be JUST like him (my house already looks like his, so that's step one, hahah!) But there are some Madam Mim pins, for example, that don't exactly impress me, so I pass them by. Same is true for the Countdown to the Millennium series! I'm collecting the movies that hold a specific and special memory, not the whole set. Pins are all about what they mean to you. :3
