how many pins do you own

Well, I had about 15 Disney pins when the Countdown to the Millennium collection started dropping at the Disney Store in September 1999 and Official Disney Pin Trading started at WDW October 1, 1999.

It is now 25+ years later, and the answer is "I don't know." Pin & Pop says 15,716 but there are huge chucks of my collection I haven't inventoried yet. I used to say 16K, but that was a couple years ago, so 18K? 19K?

But that is less than 1000 per year...

The point is: I exist so most people's collections seem small, in comparison. 🤣 And to answer everyone's pin history questions on DPF.

I'm at about 1200. Running out of room on my boards now, so I'm considering pulling out the pins I'm not in love with to make space for my ISOs & Grails. I've become much more intentional about my pin collecting over the years, so there are a lot of pins that I got "just cause".

Reactions: Ajk
It definitely makes a difference how long you’ve been collecting. Us old timers can have pretty big collections but we’ve been at a while. 150 in just a month is a pretty impressive haul. But of course, some folks purposely keep their collections smaller. You have the lighter collectors, the heavier collectors (I’m probably in that batch, but again, long time collector) and then Hope up there in her own category.

Yeah, I was definitely less focused at the beginning for sure.

I just started and i KNEW it was going to be expensive but i was not prepared. 🤪
Just wondering what ballparks people are in. Ill go first

1 month = 150 pins

It can get very expensive very quickly! After a couple of years, I’m still learning how to not go over budget each month. All those surprise drops can really do a number on the best made budget plans.

I am starting to think more of trading out spots in my collection. Like once my happy board is full, I will have to trade or sell a pin to make way for the new one. That might help me focus my wants, too. I don’t need every Lucifer pin. And I don’t need 50 pins of mochi with the same pose. Same thing with Cindy. They must be unique at this point.

Now I just need to just stop starting new collections!

And I see we traded this TA! I’m excited for that micro Max❤️

According to P&P, I have 1,112 pins. I had a few more, but I've been pruning my collections as I find grails and other HTF ISOs. When a collection outgrows it's shadow box, I remove pins that no longer fit my vision for the collection.

It's fun to find a seldom used pose or scene on a pin, and they make for more visually interesting displays. Rajah is my favorite cat, but it's hard to find unique poses of him.

Another old timer
P&P says around 5,500
I started about 25 years ago when the kids got tired of giving me McDonalds' Happy Meal toys.
Now, they just shake their heads, I tell them this will be their inheritance
Expensive Hobby... it can be if you don't specialize, pick a theme (Halloween) or a character(s) that bring you joy by holding them.
The rest is why you joined today and the hunt for them (using P&P) etc.
Welcome to the Forum
PS Don't let all knowing Professor Hopemax fool you... She sets the bar everyone strives for. 👍

Pins were $6 when I started and what the heck was a Jumbo

You: 1 month = 150 pins.... got the bug

I'm somewhere around 600, I downsized considerably back in 2016 or so and have kept a very tight leash on my collection.
I started collecting in 2001 and when I downsized I had around 2.5k pins. I used to collect 'a little of everything' and that really got out of hand. Now I'm pretty strict about just Lady and the Tramp (No Si/Am), but I admit I have some mini side collections (mini as in 5-10 pins).
