My baby turned into a shark.

Yesterday she was trading with a CM and he only had one pin she wanted to I asked her to get me the Casey Jr. pin and told her I'd trade her for it at home. This morning we're tidying up our haul and I ask her which pin she wants for the pin.

"I don't like any of your pins," she says.

Um, okay. So what would you like?

"Can you buy me three Vinylamtions next time we go?"

No. I'm not trading three Vinylmations for a Hidden Mickey pin.

"Two then?"

I'm not trading any Vinylmations for that pin. I have Vinylmation pins you can have, though.

"Hmmm...I'll think about it."

She's 5-1/2 and *thinking* about trading a pin to me.

After some heavy negotiations she finally accepted the Valentine's pin from the holiday mystery Vinylmation set.

We go over values a lot, but it is hard for her sometimes. She's really gotten into Vinylmations recently so her collections dwindle since she can only get 1 pin or 1 Vinylmation on each trip unless she spends her own money. (She was collecting the Cutesters Too series but they sold out before she finished. Now she's moved on to Toy Story and Animation 1 an is worried they are going to sell out before she is done, too.) I bought her two yesterday, though, because her sisters got pins from DSF but they didn't have anything she wanted.

how cute.. this is what i will have going on soon also. Our little 18month old trader loves his pins and is always down to grab a few extras from his brother or mom and dad. He seems to know what ones he likes best and thinks wearing his lanyard is so cool...even around the house or in the car. :P

Holy guacamole!!! I love this!!!

Out of the mouths of babes!!!!!!!!

ROTFL

She's a hoot, for sure. What amazes me most is the difference in attitude between the three sister.

One of her sisters only wants Simba and Aristocats and doesn't care about the trading aspect or even wearing her pins. As long as they are on her board she's fine. The other is a serious Tink fan but she trades for things she knows her sisters or I want. One CM at Westward Ho went to the back to get a Tink pin from the book because there wasn't one on Lotso and Batya (my dd) had used her two trades to get her sisters pins. That made her day.

My husband, though, doesn't get it. He supports them doing it because of how they act and the "educational value" of trading and negotiating, though. He still thinks we are all nuts, though.

HYSTERICAL! Oh my gosh, I can totally relate to this! Been there, done that, got the lanyard!

The good news though - can I just tell you?! When your kids are in to pins...it's magical! Oh, not necessarily for the bonding (meh - that's nice too...buuuut) do you how many chores I've paid for around here with pins? My kids will even wash the car for a pin! They never ask for an allowance - but they'll do a lot of back flips to get a pin off their "To Earn" pin board!

Yeah....and now you know why my pinpics name is "No Kids, We Do Not Need Every Pin!" Pins + Kids = Happy Mama & Happy Kids...'tis a beautiful thing!

I always think it's funny when non-pin people don't get it, but the lightbulb goes on over their heads when I tell them it's a hobby (okay, we know it's obsession, but whatever) and no different from coin/stamp collecting or any other hobby. I used to work for an attorney who is a years-long coin collector. When I told him about pin trading/collecting, I didn't even have to explain, he got it right away. It also led to a discussion of what we call sharks, he liked the term, and said the same people are in his hobby too, I'm sure they're in every hobby.

I'm laughing at your five-year-old, and thinking, it's funny when it's a five-year-old, but "we are not amused" when it's an adult doing it! Of course, the adult shark thinks differently from a five-year-old. Now's a good time to teach your kids about it so they'll be *GOOD* pin traders (and not "guppies" as Nursek8 calls them).

So adorable! Totally made me smile! :)

You mean the second cutesters series, right? I'm pretty sure they are available at a lot of local disney stores still. Just in case your daughter was still looking for some, they shouldn't be too hard to find. All the best in her pin and vinylmation future trading! (and all the best for yours too! Maybe your daughter can be convinced that teamwork in trading works out real well too! ;D)

I wish pin trading had been around when my kids were younger. But at least I'm getting my grandson into it. He loves cars and is always looking out for them in the stores. Even though he is only 2, he know what he wants and there is no getting around it.

That was such a funny story and I needed a good laugh in the morning. Good luck swimming with your sharks and hope you at least get to keep your wallet:)
