I can't believe it.
My baby turned into a shark.
Yesterday she was trading with a CM and he only had one pin she wanted to I asked her to get me the Casey Jr. pin and told her I'd trade her for it at home. This morning we're tidying up our haul and I ask her which pin she wants for the pin.
"I don't like any of your pins," she says.
Um, okay. So what would you like?
"Can you buy me three Vinylamtions next time we go?"
No. I'm not trading three Vinylmations for a Hidden Mickey pin.
"Two then?"
I'm not trading any Vinylmations for that pin. I have Vinylmation pins you can have, though.
"Hmmm...I'll think about it."
She's 5-1/2 and *thinking* about trading a pin to me.
...buuuut) do you how many chores I've paid for around here with pins? My kids will even wash the car for a pin! They never ask for an allowance - but they'll do a lot of back flips to get a pin off their "To Earn" pin board!
** dyma runs off to find a corkboard, laughing maniacally **
I always think it's funny when non-pin people don't get it, but the lightbulb goes on over their heads when I tell them it's a hobby (okay, we know it's obsession, but whatever) and no different from coin/stamp collecting or any other hobby. I used to work for an attorney who is a years-long coin collector. When I told him about pin trading/collecting, I didn't even have to explain, he got it right away. It also led to a discussion of what we call sharks, he liked the term, and said the same people are in his hobby too, I'm sure they're in every hobby. My husband, though, doesn't get it. He supports them doing it because of how they act and the "educational value" of trading and negotiating, though. He still thinks we are all nuts, though.
After some heavy negotiations she finally accepted the Valentine's pin from the holiday mystery Vinylmation set.
We go over values a lot, but it is hard for her sometimes. She's really gotten into Vinylmations recently so her collections dwindle since she can only get 1 pin or 1 Vinylmation on each trip unless she spends her own money. (She was collecting the Cutesters Too series but they sold out before she finished. Now she's moved on to Toy Story and Animation 1 an is worried they are going to sell out before she is done, too.) I bought her two yesterday, though, because her sisters got pins from DSF but they didn't have anything she wanted.
