I hate it when THIS happens to a pin I receive!

I have been eagerly awaiting this pin for a few weeks now

I had been talking to someone who finally got home and we arranged a trade and I got the pin today, in a bubble envelope, with as a nice touch the CD style card the pin came on, and the pin was cleanly sheared off it's post. The post is still on the card, and the pin was just moving freely around in the envelope.

I really feel bad on this as I have been wanting the pin since learning of it, since Scrooge pins are kind of rare to begin with LOL, and they did use a bubble envelope, but it arrived broken off. I e-mailed them and asked their thoughts, but what would you do?

I think it depends on what you are going to do with it. If it is a keeper, and you plan to frame it, I wouldn't worry much. It appears this wasnt the fault of the seller. I would hesitate to ask for reparation. If this is valuable was intended for resale or trade, then I would just remember to get insurance next time. Unfortunately this is part of the hobby when trading by mail.

It is a keeper, and was going to go into my Scrooge pin book, so having it on it's post is necessary, LOL

I would replace the post, having recieved a uber rare pin, which was shipped properly is the delema, you cant really blame the sender they did all they can, and if you return it, you dont have the uber rare pin again and you start from scratch!!
Suggestion?

Have the post repaired, better to have the pin in the collection<shadow box, book, wall poster whatever> than to be looking at the graphic on PP and saying

"I ll get you my pretty, one day my precious will be mine,i love you, I know, and any other prophetic movie line I can think of"

keep it unless you think you can get a mint one,,

I have shown these types of pins to a tool guru at Home Depot, and he said there is no real way to repair it where you won't notice the repair. Is that true?

unfortunately hes right, you will be able to tell, so the question comes down to the real truth , do you want it that bad, even if not perfect?

If you want to keep it and repair it, they sale a glue on post at places like Hobby Lobby, Michaels and JoAnn Fabrics. I would use E6000 to glue it on.

I've had that happen to me a couple of times ... Unfortuanately, in one case, the seller wasn't willing to do anything about it and I ended up making a really nice refrigerator magnet out of the broken pin and buying another one later.

E6000 glue is great for most crafting projects but for a pin post I think a small dab of J-B weld would probably work the best for metal on metal bonding, there is a tutorial somewhere on the web that gives the instructions for fixing a pin post with J-B weld. Hope this will help, best of luck no matter if you send the pin back or try and fix it

a dab of superglue. but first make sure you clean the back of the pin and the post well. from what you describe the whole thing came off, incluing the little raised nub the post sit in right?

you could also try a jewelry repair shop.

Billy, I think Josh's (dieharddonald) dad is good at pin repair and he is local to you! he's repaired lots of pins so I hear.

I just use JB Weld. If the back of the pin had a smooth finish, the post probably didn't get a good grip at the factory. I say fix it, keep it, until you can trade for a mint one. I'd just ask the next trader to package it a bit better (maybe more bubble wrap).

I use Tour Van Epoxy (golfsmith product.) If it can hold my golf club together at 120mph it can hold your pin post in place. Only other option I can think of is a jeweler. They can probably get a post off a junk earring and solder it on pretty good. Just have to be careful with heat and discoloration on the front of the pin.

I have a few pins I got in trade with repaired backs. There is someone here at DLR that repairs pin posts. It is what it is. If it's that rare, I'd say keep it, fix it, and try to find a replacement down the road if you end up with regrets.

I had a hades pin I really wanted come with the pin back all but flattened. I contacted the trader who was happy to send my pin back but I decided it was royal mails faults and id just slide the pin on the canvas. I guess it comes down to was it the traders fault and how much do you want the pin?

I would just repair it if I was going to keep it. I feel horrible for you that you received it broken, but I also feel bad for the seller because it totally was by no fault to him. Congrats on getting the pin though!
