i have a question about pin auctions

after reading the rules last week i had gotten a sense of, im supposed to update the leaderboard after a bid or as often as i can. is this right?

While I haven't done an auction in a long time.. I say as often as you can really. sometimes work outings (etc) can get in the way unless it was a very active auction

You are allowed to update the leaderboard whenever you see fit, from my understanding. No one is obligated to update it after every bid, either. Most people are too busy to do that. However it is common courtesy to update the leaderboard at least once daily if there are new bids, in my opinion!

Ideally leaderboards should only be updated if there is a change , however many members use the leaderboard to "soft bump" thier auctions back to the top,
The rules state Please limit bumps to one per day, or a bump may not be needed if the thread is active with offers/inquiries/leaderboards.

Simply put that means if you have bids or leaderboards or even questions, you dont need to bump, Do you need to repost leaderboards after every bid? Definately not, If folks continue to use "leaderboards" as a way to "soft bump" thier threads to the top you can rest assured that rule will change,

We have anywhere from 20 to 50 active auctions at a time, with thousands of members online on any one day, Plenty of time for folks to see whatever you have up for bids,

However if every auctioneer post leaderboards to move thier auction back to the top AFTER EVERY BID OR COMMENT, im afraid we will have to do something to limit that,like change the rules on leaderboards or commentary. Please do not abuse the fine print of the rules and we will not have to rewrite them to circumvent that.

WE WANT THE AUCTIONS TO BE FAIR FOR EVERYONE, AND AT THE SAME TIME WE DO NOT WANT "HOGGING" OF THE AUCTION HOUSE.

Please auction responsibly, if you comment or "soft bump" after every bid, you may find that the number and quality of bids decreases as well. Bidders may get frustrated or see themselves as being used if the auction is run in a less than professional style.........

Psycho Pixie, Moe, Anazarraya, Pinacolda , there are plenty of examples, check them out, we want the auctions to be successful for everyone, as well as be fair to everyone.

I spoke to pixie about this yesterday, I don't mean that you have to bump or change after every bid. I just think that the last 15 minutes the leader board should be kept as up to date as possible, every auction I've ever gone the leader knows that he's the leader. As a bidder the leader has a right to know if he's number 1 so that he doesn't bid himself up. If there are no changed then they should let people know after every 5 bids or so that there's no change. I ran my first auction last week and I learned what a bump was and why not to do it which is understandable, but the last half hour I tried to stay on top of it as much as I could even though I was at dlr for the 24hr event. I just feel that there need to be a rule change where the last 15 minutes the leaderboard should be kept up do date as much as possible

We talked a bit about this in chat last night.

My advice to anyone doing auctions is always the same.

A leaderboard should be posted if it has a change, due to new bids. Not after every single bid, but if there is a change in the top 3. Bidders like to know where they stand. Heck, sometimes I even type up a bit about why the leaderboard is the way it is.

A leaderboard should be posted once a day, use it as your once daily bump if needed.

Posting a reply such as "no change" after every new bid is not a good idea. It would be seen as excessive bumps.
However, posting a reply such as "no change" after say... 3-6 bids, is a polite way to let your new bidders know they should adjust their bids if they really want the pin. You can also tell folks things like, "I liked pin #2 in your bid, but the other ones just don't work for me."

Bumping your auction with the word "bump" is boring, and might be perceived by potential bidders as an indicator your pin is not worth bidding on. "Since no-one else likes it, why should i bid?"

I "bump" my auctions with a leaderboard, or maybe a video or image that has something to do with my auction. I like to entertain my auction readers and bidders.

**edit, add** if your auction is on page one of the auction house. Do not bother to bump it.... So many times i have seen people "bump" their auction needlessly because it was only 4 down from the top. I have literally watched it occur. If its on page one, it will get plenty of views. I bump my auction if it hits page 2, and usually only around certain times of the evening for maximum viewing.
