Is anyone else having problems with Pinpics trades? Either I have been extremely unlucky lately or there is a serious decline of etiquette amongst its users.

The last four trades I have done over Pinpins were all held until after they received my pin(s). In one of those four trades when I did receive the pin it was damaged with a refusal to make it right and I still haven't received anything from another one and the person isn't responding to my emails. And of course, the mailing delays have been explained away by deaths, sickness, and hospitalization....

Now, I'm not saying that some stories of why mail delays happen aren't true, but seriously, it just isn't possible that some people aren't making things up. One story in particular was so far fetched that it was just comical. More and more people are holding pins hostage and it is very discouraging. I am getting very leery of trading over Pinpics now....

Is anyone else having problems or am I just jinxed?

I can't say that I am having those problems, but I have gotten about 10 trade requests within the past 2 weeks. I have responded back within a couple of hours accepting the trade and I receive a response from the person requesting the trade that they are no longer interested. It IS quite frustrating being that they initiated the trade in the first place. I have decided my preference for trading is through DPF since everyone here "gets it" and understands the etiquette of trading. THANKS DPF!!! :pooh:

I don't get any responses at all. However, I guess that is better than sending pins and getting nothing in return! OUCH! I am sorry that is happening to you!

I, too, get minimal responses to my myriad requests. I also have compiled a list, along with another trader, of Pinpics folks who don't make good on their trade or do other funny stuff. It's probably inappropriate to put the list on this forum, but feel free to PM me with your email address...

What also seems odd is that the people on pinpics are taking the time to update there wants lists, but not responding to trade requests. Apparantly I am not on their preferred trader list.

It is pretty bad. I sent 152 requests out (yes 152!). This was overall to like 40 or so users, but only one responded. It wasn't even like the offers weren't fair. They were my LE 300 WDI for a LE 500 pin on most of them. I also responded to someone telling them I would accept their offer, never heard back, and got another automated request from them on the Trade Assistant the next day. Responded telling them I would accept both offers, and still have never heard back at all. I'm thinking to start sticking to DPF for trading due to this.

I'm waiting on a trade that was confirmed 12/31. He said it was mailed back and that he mailed it again on 1/13. Hopefully I get it soon. I only made 2 other trades this month and have received them in a timely matter.

I have fortunately not had too many horror stories. Yes people have held my pin until they received mine but this is why I love the DPF forum.
It is family, we all know each other through our post and stuff and you are dealing with people you at least know are here daily. I have felt much safer on DPF and since the inception of the forum, have done very little trading on Pinpics.

Of the few request I do get (I dont send any anymore) I have responded to 4 of them and then they never responded back. I think that says something. They ask me for the trade, I accept and never hear back. Forget it.

Thanks DPF and all you great DPF'ers...........

Couldn't have said it better. There's just something about this place that is more comforting than just trading on PinPics for some reason.

I've sent out about 30 requests over the past couple of weeks. Got a few polite declines and two working trades. Still waiting to (hopefully) hear back from a few more recent inquiries. But overall I get ignored way more than repsonded to.

I love everyone here at DPF. Only problem is my limited amount of traders and my wants don't match up to many of you. It's just the way it goes. Until I build up my collection of traders better, I will be limited to who I can trade with. :hs:

Sometimes this happens if they sent out more than 1 request for the same pin. If that happens to me the first to reply back usually gets the trade and i have to let the other trader know that i already made the trade. Or they may have gotten a better offer, yes it sucks but that is how it goes sometimes. the first one in or the best offer/trade wins usually. Dont give up on pin pics you never know what you may miss out on because of it. keep an open mind and it will happen , i know cause it happens to me all the time. I try and reply but dont allways have the time, usually cause i want to be able to double check to see if i have the pin to trade, look up the pins or see if they have something else i may want. I plan on getting back to them and then life/ family gets me sidetracked and i forget. sometimes its days before i reply , sometimes i can still trade sometimes i miss out. oh well life goes on i say. the pins i want i will get when it is time! if i get them all now what would i need pin trading for?? lol

Today I received a request that I thought I would share. They requested a harder to find, newer Hidden Mickey. They offered me a pin, that actually was an auction pin. Well, not paying too close attention to the pin, as I was looking at it online, via phone, I glanced thought it was cute and said yes.

I then get a response saying they just would not feel right if they were "suckered" into this trade!!!!!! OMG!

I am so fed up with the people who trade on Pinpics. I am so serious. This person asks me to trade, then accuses me into trying to sucker her into something.

I never even gave her my address. I just said I could do the trade, and to let me know either way.

Rude rude rude rude.

Sorry people, but this really bugs me, and you have to listen to my ranting. Sorry again!!!!

Hi, just asking a question.

How is Trading via DPF "different" than via PinPics?? Isn't the matches for the Trade/Wants still via pinPics database?? Maybe I am missing something but can someone clarify this for me, thanks!!

P.S. I have gotten a few TA's recently where THEY are asking for a Trade, then REFUSE after I accept. No Big Deal, just shake my head and move on!!

To me it is just a matter of familiarity. Things can of course go wrong here too, but I think everyone is more comfortable with each other here because we talk to one another and you can somewhat assume that if the person is posting frequently that they aren't hiding in the shaddows and scamming people. The more involved with the hobby someone is the less likely they will scam someone because they wouldn't want to burn bridges like that.

Pinpics on the other hand, you are more likely to deal with someone you have never heard of. Even if they have a ton of references, that doesn't mean they always play by the rules. And they probably don't know you either, so they will be more leery and as a result hold pins hostage on you.

That's just the way I look at it. If someone were to pop up here and have one post they would still fall into the "unknown" bucket for me. And going forward I'm being a lot more careful about who I trade with, even if they do have references.

I agree. You know who your talking too and it is not something blind, where your being asked and then accused of taking advantage.

People here are nice and will not offer a trade if they are not willing to make it. If they do not want to accept a trade offer, they will kindly let you know and maybe give some words of wisdom as to why they would prefer to not make a particular trade.

People on this site are crazy cool!!!!!!

Ok, so I went back to the original trade request, that this person had sent me, and there was another Auction pin they offered as well.

If people do not want to trade certain pins, then they should not offer the trade. ARGH!

I agree with you Erica, Im more inclined to work on trades through the forum as I find it to more relaxed and you feel like you know the person you are trading with since you reply to there posts, talk to them in chat etc..Ive made quite a few trades on here which have been great to knock a few off my wants list where as I was trying for ages through pinpics with failing and no responses.

Pinpics is hit and miss for me at the moment. I got a response who said yes they would trade, sent them my address and said please send me your so I can ship the pin and they never did..least now I traded the pin they wanted since they left me high and dry with no reply.

I've made a few trades I was happy with the past couple of months. I had a couple traders hold my pins at the beginning when I didn't have references, but I invited them to do so. I haven't had that happen recently, though.

Honestly, the only problem I've had with Pinpics is the occasional furious person thinking I'm trying to rip them off. When I send out TA notices, I generally just click any pin I would consider receiving as part, or a whole, of a trade involving the pin I'm addressing (including higher-end pins I'd gladly trade more for). Most people take this as an invitation to look through my stuff and request more if their pin is higher-end than the one I'm offering, but a couple people assume I'm looking to score LE's for HM's and just blast me.

I really wish the TA tool was more precise, and I wish the option to be anonymous didn't exist. I've had multiple anonymous users really have at me for offering low-end pins for their high-end stuff, when their decision to remain anonymous means I don't even know what other pins I might be offering them when I shotgun a bunch of trade offers. Kind of demoralizing.

Since I turned by TA assistant back on in November, I have completed 2 Pinpics trades. Both went really well, pins shipped on time, good communication, etc. Gotten several unbalanced requests though. I think the difference is there is definitely a sense of community here, while Pinpics, IMO, is more of a pin specific Craigslist. You're not quite sure what type of person is on the other end, until you've finished the transaction. I haven't met anyone here, haven't gone into chat, but I can tell this is a friendly bunch of people. When people post a want, you WANT to help them get it, so you'll spend more time looking over your lists to find something, etc. And most people won't do that for a Pinpics trade because you will probably never have communication with them again.

I've had a few pinpics messages that have been filtered into the junk and then I can't open the message and then there is no record of a request on pinpics..

I may be being stupid but..

I can't say I have any issues. At the beginning I had one or two who told me up front that they would hold their pin until they were satisfied with my end of the trade, so I did not trade with them, but now, everything seems to move smoothly

I've had that happen as well, but thankfully only a handfull of times.

Overall, PinPics has gone well for me over the past couple of months.
