Just curious what everyone thinks????

When I help ppl with new release pins, I usually want to have the pin in hand before getting the $$, especially for LE pins..

I did have ppl pay up front for the Sci-Fi Academy event, but that was after I got the RSP list of items..

Now - as for ppl in the UK (since I'm in California), I have not had any problems at all.. Mail takes a bit longer.. as expected..

I know that a few ppl on DPF have been seriously ill or have been in auto accidents.. both in the US and in Europe..

Every so often - send a PM or email and ask if they got the pin and when they might be able to pay.. I know that one of my very favorite DPFers in the UK has been seriously ill and in and out of hospitals and hasn't always had access to a computer.. I know that you already sent the pin as a ZAP to someone else.. believe me - I don't always have the answers.. I'm just talking off the top of my head here.. lol

Edit: and I guess all this would depend on a DPFers Feedback Score.. If someone in the UK (or anywhere) is new and has no Feedback Score, then get the money up front. You can also see when a DPFer has last been on DPF from their profile page - any recent posts or started threads, etc.. If someone looks like they just fell off the face of the earth, maybe they did.. ..then send an email asking if they are okay.. and if they got the pin.. etc..

When people are generous enough to help "out of towners" out, then it really behooves us out of towners to make your doing the favor for us as easy as possible on our end!

I am so grateful of those who are able to help me out with my collections, and I try to make sure they are reimbursed asap. It's the least I could do to pay as soon as possible and then be sure to show due appreciation.

I just had a blonde moment yesterday and seriosuly wondered, given how I've been recently, if it was me! So relieved it wasn't. I've had to set up a spreadsheet to keep track of who I'm sending pins to and who's sending me what. Just haven't been myself recently.

People are pretty blatant, so they know. :-(

I do not think I am a meanie, so to expect a return pm or email and then to add a little thank you doesn't feel like I'm asking too much and truly, I was raised this way and so far most here are like this. It is called manners and common courtesy.

Ok. I see most agree, but then a few don't, so I will except that. :-( Doesn't mean I gotta like it though. :-(

another thought on this..

if the other DPFer requested that you make the purchase, through a post or PM, etc.. And then you did your part, but they backed out for whatever reason, AND if there is ample time that has passed, then I would say that Negative Feedback is in order. Sometimes that's what it takes to get someone's attention AND Negative Feedback can always be changed or removed, if, in the end, the person holds up their end of the deal.

In this specific situation, it is too late, cuz the pin has been sent as a ZAP. But I would still suggest that you leave a Negative.

Can't believe any one would do that to you. I adore the kindness that you showed me with the last pin that I needed for the Nightmare Candy Corn pin and wanting to send it to me without me sending something back. I will for sure send you something to thank you for the kindness.

Thats dreadful, Vicki. I believe that whoever it was owes you an apology and a thank you. I find nowadays that people are not the same as us - not polite, don't reply back - even to trades whether they have received the pin - I always say thank you and leave a reference.

Oh hon, I hate to hear that! You're an angel to do that for them. I know sometimes it's a breeze to get someone a pin...other times (when you have a new baby or at Christmas when the PO lines are out the door) it's a real chore...people asking should always assume it's a chore and go above/beyond to pay for everything and...AND lavish on the thanks!!!

I would encourage everyone to make it a practice to get paid (shipper) or pay in advance (buyer)...I've always done that. Keeps it neat and tidy.

When trader A is asking trader B to do something for trader A, trader A solicited it, so why wouldn't trader A pay in advance?! I know not everyone has to count pennies, but laying out $24 would be a stretch for me some weeks! It's always good to assume you'd be stretching the other person...and in turn...don't!

Just in case the other end of this is reading ([/giggle] I thought about adding clarity to that...but I kinda like it how it is ): When someone is doing you a favor, you definitely need to pony up and really should send a little extra or at least a lengthy thanks...never know when you will really, REALLY need their help and you'll have burned a beautiful bridge! Bridge burning = NOT wise! Remember.....Karma is a beautiful thing...as long as you're sending out beautiful karma!

Kindness should always be repaid with a "thank you", at the very least. When someone offers to pick up a pin for me, I always pay up front -- including the shipping..

I agree with the "thank you".. It's just so easy to send a thank you to someone who helps you out on DPF.. And one of the most gracious and helpful people on the forum is Vicki. I'm sorry this happened to you.

I agree with what others have said, ask for payment and shipping costs up front before you commit to helping them. It is only fair and will help you avoid them changing their mind.

I too have struggled with this issue. I have helped some people out before and some have been very greatful while others.....not so much. Once time someone posted that they really wanted a pin and I told them I had an extra and if they just sent me their address that they could have it. I then get a PM with just their address. No "thank you", "thanks", not even a "hi"! Ok....so I sent it anyways and heard nothing. So I looked up the DC and saw it had been delivered 5 days prior so I asked them if they got it and only then did I receive an underwhelming "thank you". Experiences like that are one of the main reasons I don't participate in the zapping thing much. Sometimes I just get the feeling that people are looking for a hand out (No ALL by any means, but some).

Also, I sometimes feel like when I need help that nobody steps up. Granted, I rarely ask for help because a lot of times the things I am looking for are difficult to find, but there have been a couple of times I needed something and was either told no or just go no responses. There for sure have been a couple of people that have helped me out, and a couple without me even asking, so those I am greatful for.

It is just a difficult situation and all boils down to who you are dealing with and unfortunately most of us really don't know each other. :dunno:

Just so everyone knows, I am still willing to help Any and All who need it.

This will not change how I help, just maybe how I do things if I don't know someone.

It was two separate occasions and yet I want to express it had nothing to do with where they lived, but rather the manners in which they didn't have!!!!

I think its great that you posted this thread Vicki! You showed the "ungrateful ones" who may be ignorant of their behavior or who just don't care that appreciation is a must when asking for a favor. I hate when people feel they are entitled to favors, when really they should be thankful for all help they get. All it takes is a few seconds to send a thank you PM.
