hi I'm new to the posting on this site but i like reading all the comments and i want to get involved in this.
i seen a bid earlier today for Ice Elsa for $374.99(idk of it's gone up or not.
but
here's my theory on this
I think the movie is so popular now that people are willing to pay ALOT more then the price she was originally
once this is over.
I think her price will go slightly down
then as time goes on.
the price will slowly go back up for her.
I'm not sure if she will be the most desirable disney doll. but I think she will be one of the most.
especially because of the number being so low on her.
and i also think disney did that because they didn't know how successful frozen would be.
so the fact they made these new dolls LE number 5,000 was a smart move.
but i still think it will be a war online(as well as in store.)

of course this is all theory and i have no proof to back it up or anything.

sorry for just coming in out of no where lol
i plan to be here more often.

I definitely think Elsa is getting up there but still no where near as much as Alice who has that extra added appeal due to her low edition size.

She is catching up to Snow though, I still dont think it would be a good trade Elsa for Snow as the person getting the Snow would have the better end of the deal as Snow is still worth around $650-700.
 
Strange people are paying around 700 for the set thought. For that price you could just buy the harrods set though, do people prefer them separately or something?
 

I don't find it surprising at all. Once it was clear the movie would be a mega success it was only natural that the LE Elsa with only 2500 would skyrocket in price, especially since she has become a wildly popular character..
 
Hello, everyone! I'm new here. I joined because I'm interested in the Disney pins, but I was so happy to see this thread because I just started collecting dolls this past summer. I have mostly American Girl dolls in my collection, but the DFDC dolls and LE Ariel introduced me to the Disney limited edition dolls. I was able to get the DFDC Ariel and Eric dolls, and, well, I've been hooked ever since! Due to space and money, I'm limiting which dolls I get, but I hope to add more dolls to my collection (especially anything Frozen and The Little Mermaid).

Anyway, I've been obsessed with Frozen since I saw it. I'm kicking myself for not getting the previous Elsa and Anna dolls, but I've put them on my wish list, so one day I'll have them. I'm SO excited about these new dolls! I have some Christmas money I'm going to use to get Elsa, and I'm thinking about getting Anna for my sister (Anna really reminds me of her). I'd love for us sisters to have the sisters (Elsa for me, Anna for my sister). I want an Anna for myself, but it's more important to me that my sister has her first.

Looks like it will be a long school night for me (no store near my school, unfortunately), but it'll be so worth it.

Well the Harrods set is a bit more difficult to get as it is only located at Harrods in London and I am not sure if the US would get hit with taxes for ordering something from overseas but with the exchange rate and shipping the Harrods set would come to about USD$900 and possibly taxes on top of that, so it does still work out to be cheaper than the Harrods set.

Also I dont think many people know about the Harrods set because it really was just through word of mouth that people found out about them since they were only exclusive to the store.
 

Hi Clare and welcome to the forum, I definitely agree with your theory and think that is what will happen with Elsa as well. There is just so much hype over this movie that it really has become such a huge money maker for Disney.


Welcome to the forum, I gotta warn you, Disney doll collecting is very addictive haha. That and they take up a lot of space! But I guess it is not as bad as the pins because whilst they can be costly they dont come out as often as pins to so can be a little easier to collect as well due to their accessibility.
 
There is still the matter of the two dolls boxes together here in the US. The cast members at my disney store (even the manager) confirmed it. weird...
 
i think it's sad that people put buy it nows(but then again for my most wanted doll i did a buy it now...)
but for $800 for both of them is nuts.
i'm glad i didnt pay for it for that but i feel bad for the people that do
i know they choose it
but i think bids are better that way because you can choose where you stop at
i think ebay is nice and i know i wont ever stop using it
it's just scalpers make it alot harder
because they try to get everything they can out of it

as far as these new dolls go
i'm planning on getting them(atleast i hope i do)
and i wish everyone else the best of luck in getting them also
 
I actually don't think that Snow Queen LE Elsa's resale price will go down at all. With only 1500 units in the North American market (the other 1000 went to the UK & Europe), there are a lot less to go around in the Canadian & US households, making Snow Queen LE Elsa a lot more rare than the typical LE 5000+ princess doll. By comparison, LE Ariel has a lot of available listings on eBay, but that will reduce over time and her price will eventually go back up. With Snow Queen LE Elsa, the sellers that have her will keep her price high now that they know that she can sell for that much--it is very much in-line with the 2011 Designer Ariel doll, who still rarely comes down from her super-high resale price. People are apparently drawn to Elsa's Snow Queen look, through her glamor and sparkle. But it really is all about supply and demand, and the demand is very high compared to a lower supply.

So that said, I am pretty sure that Snow Queen LE Elsa will reach LE Snow White prices (around $600-$900+). Will she hit LE Alice prices (currently $1000+)? Maybe... maybe not. But I think that at some point she is capable of hitting $1000, which LE Snow White has sold for in the past.
 

I dont necessarily think that the price will go down persay but I think that you will get listings every now and then where she will sell for less than $500 especially where she is paired with Anna (sort of like the QoH with Alice). I do agree that she has no where else to go but up but I think that a lot of this is due to the hype around the movie. It will be interesting to see where Elsa will be in say about a year's time or when the next lot designers come through as that is usually when the LE dolls reach their lower sale points due to people focusing more on the dolls being sold at retail. It's interesting because even with the news of the new LE dolls Elsa still managed to sell for such a high amount which are the traits of a grail.

The thing that I find interesting is that whilst Alice is priced around the $1000+ mark I dont think she has ever sold for that much at all, sort of similar to the D23 silver Cinderella being priced for $1,000+ but usually selling for just short of that. I think this will be the case for Elsa too wherein people will start asking for $500+ buy it now with Elsa just because of one person paying that much for it but for those that go up on auction, the bids will always end up shorter than the buy it now prices. I dunno its hard to explain but I agree with both theories for different reasons and definitely think that Elsa's release will be an interesting one as it is the first "grail" status doll to come out since Alice and back when Alice was released no one knew of these dolls whereas now they have grown a lot more popular and as a result there are more people out there who would be willing to pay more for them.

I have a feeling that they may have just gotten confused or misinformed as it can happen where CMs dont really know much about the releases and try formulating a response based on what they think is going on or interpret things incorrectly as we saw with the whole preorder/not preorder fiasco as some cast members interpreted the dolls being released for sale on the 10th as being the actual dolls being released when in fact it was not. It was just the preorder.

That is the tricky thing when getting information from others as your are really getting the info based on another person's interpretation which may not always be correct.

I still find it unlikely for them to do a two doll box set (unless they do a surprise release box set of the two new dolls to match the Harrods set) which still to me seems unlikely and I would rather prefer a surprise Kristoff. LOL

I was just watching at the official post on the disney store FB, and people are question about the price being high AGAIN as usual. also they kept asking where is the snow queen Elsa one..... Guess this time Ebay ( :anxious resellers wins again ( kind of..... They always win if you find out a doll you really want but it has already been released)
 

what is a grail?
i've heard of the grails in peoples collections
is that where you buy a doll you never thought you would have? and it happens to be expensive or is it a doll that is so high in price that once you get it it's a fav?
that always confused me
 

Snow Queen LE Elsa has pretty much all the traits of a grail doll juggernaut: lower LE size, desirable design, and a super-popular movie. No other LE doll has sold for this much so fast. Her Coronation LE doll is well-designed and well-crafted, but it is a design that will appeal more to the mega-fans/collectors (like us here on DPF). The other consumers out there would most likely pick her Snow Queen look over her Coronation look just because of the instant recognizable factor of the more marketed Snow Queen look. That is why I don't think that Coronation LE Elsa's release will affect Snow Queen LE Elsa's resale prices at all. Even though they are the same character, they are two very different dolls (kind of like the differences between LE blonde Rapunzel and LE wedding Rapunzel).

On eBay, apparently, LE Alice has sold for $1,295 on 12/17/2013, $1,325 on 12/15/2013, $1,175 on 11/11/2013, and $1,000 11/07/2013. Her resale prices are way over-the-top! But she is LE 500. I'm so glad I bought mine back when she was far less than this!

i look at it this way
it's better to buy now then pay ebay prices later
as far as the snow queen comments
i feel for those people.
 

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe the term "grail" is generally used to identify an item that an individual would want most but in some cases may not be able to obtain due to the price making them almost unattainable. In the case of pin collecting everyone has their own grails because everyone's wants vary depending on what sort of pins they collect but with doll collecting as there are not as many dolls around what you will find is that a lot of people will want the same doll and give it that grail status but as with any grail the increase in demand will mean the fewer in supply due to the limited number of dolls produced. This is what happened with Snow, Alice and Elsa in that so many people want them to the point that they are willing to pay anything from 500-1000 for the dolls as there are not very many available but due to their look and appeal they were willing to pay more for them when they came up for sale.
 

someday i want alice(idk about snow)
but i dont want to pay that price for her.
so hopefully i'll be able to get her one day lol

Polaris explained it more thoroughly than I, but I wanted to add that sometimes a grail might not be expensive. It just might be very hard to find. Like for example you might be looking for a specific doll or collectible that no one else seems to remember or have. It might be worth only a little, but because your the only one seeking it it is incredibly hard to find and is a grail to you.
 
For people who work at the Disney store, if you can answer this.

Will this release have a preorder envelope like the ariel one did?
 

Wow serious? Sorry I never realised that Alice sold for that much! That is just crazy! I bought mine along with QoH for less than a grand, and that was for both!

But I guess that is expected, usually people list items on ebay according to what other people have sold theirs for. I have seen listings on there for some time but they never sold I guess people are willing to pay more for them now, especially after the increase in popularity.

I guess I just underestimated the secondary market as I havent had the need to resort to it for some time now (which i am so grateful for) but based on all that I can see why Elsa has been given grail status so I definitely agree with you Shiva on that.

I am wondering if I should get my dolls insured now because of their value, I have a feeling that my set (if I was ever able to sell it) would sell for a pretty decent amount. I never really thought of it that way but it does make me want to insure it now haha.

Just out of curiosity anyone have an idea what the entire LE disney dolls and disney designer dolls would be valued at? Just so I know the value to get insured.
