Limited Edition 17" Collector Dolls Information

Thank you! I didn't know about the other thread. I'm definitely now going to try to get my favourite if there's no clear 'warning shield' on one princess of this set who's going to be much too popular I don't have any Disneystore in my country, but I'll try online.

Thank you very much. I was fearing another Frozen-breakout with skyward-prices, but the way you explain it, it seems unlikely.

The value question only concerned my boxed Anna and it was more of an afterthought than my original question. I hope I didn't upset anyone here, though I don't think generally asking about boxing/unboxing value is that bad -> I'm not any kind of scalper and I don't "collect" so I can sell in the future.
And excuse me if I'm wrong, as I'm still new to the Disney LE Doll business: But isn't collecting always connected to value? It's evident that these dolls have a much higher value than their original retail values (not talking about scalper/skyward monstrosities of prices) - $wise as well as emotional. Maybe I'm missing some cruical element of the history of pricing/value on this forum regarding dolls but I so far haven't seen anything. If there was or still is a delicacy concerning this, I'd be thankful to know what exactly to avoid as not to stir anything up. Not answering will only confuse newbies(me) - it will not make us aware of forum etiquettes not written out but known by longterm members.
Thank you for reading

Creases in the outerbox are relatively normal, correct? I'm not talking a lot or any major ones (like from the box obviously being crushed), but a minor one or two from general wear and tear like when they first get delivered or handled at the Disney Store.

Unfortunately now this seems to be standard. None of my older release dolls have this issue, but almost every newer doll I get has these on the box. :/

With Disney Store now releasing Frozen Merchandise around noon PST instead of midnight... is anyone concerned they may begin doing that with LE Dolls? They would let us know via blog or Facebook... right?

Not necessarily, collecting is definitely not always connected to value, I guess it just comes down to the type of collector that you are. There are a lot of collectors out there that collect these items because of their rarity which in a sense makes them more valuable which is what I think you are referring to? Which is a fair point as that is one of the many reasons why I love these dolls, is because of their rarity but there is also another reason why many others collect these dolls and it is because they feature their favourite Disney princess/character in a very detailed form which you will probably not be able to find anywhere else. So for these collectors the value does not mean anything to them, or at the very least it is not at the top of their priority list.

I do not think there is anything wrong with asking about the value of the dolls but I think what gets rather frustrating lately is that all of a sudden it has been coming up quite a lot in this thread which is totally taking it off topic and can really be an off-putting topic for some. Which is why I suggest that maybe a new thread be started so that those that do want to talk about the value of dolls can do so in a new thread without discussing it in these threads which are generally more about the upcoming LE dolls and the discussions around them.

By the way there are secondary values on the informative thread but these have not been updated to reflected the inflated prices due to the Frozen bubble. I do suggest as well that you look at ebay as that is a good way to determine how much people are willing to pay for these dolls. Another good thing to do is ask yourself if the box is damaged would I pay less for it? If the answer is yes then more likely most other people will too.

Is there any confirmed dolls to be released soon? I got the two fairy dolls, but is anything coming out?

In terms of soon I am assuming you mean within the next 12 months? If so yes there is the Designer Fairytale line part 2 which is expected to be released around Aug-Oct with details being released around early August and then you have the Sleeping Beauty LE line which is supposed to feature Aurora and Maleficent in LE doll form expected around late July (preorder for Aurora) with a release date of October.

Yes, I agree with Polaris that "soon" to me means 2014! Lol! I have been collecting LE dolls since 2012. My frenzy seems to ebb and flow with the release of dolls. It seems there has been a new release every one or two months since Ariel LE 17... that I am now going through LE Doll withdrawal.
Though nothing official has been announced, LE Aurora's announcement should come this summer (I am basing this assumption off last couple years)... perhaps June. Maybe sooner due to the Maleficent movie. And the DFDC line will continue with the remaining 5 couples this fall. Tinker Bell's doll was a surprise announcement approximately 2 weeks prior to the doll release of Feb 18 which was a month and half prior to the movie release. And so if there are going to be any LE Dolls released relating to the movie Maleficent... we would think that info would come soon since the movie comes out in May?

I am also hoping for another Frozen LE doll release (Hans or Kristoff?) with the 3-D version of Frozen being released this fall. But that is pure speculation on my part.

My question above about the timing of releasing of LE Dolls is really just a product of my LE Doll buying "withdrawal" I think I need to take a break from all things Disney until this summer.

Since you have been collecting since 2012 I think you will remember the huge gap between the Cinderella LE doll and the Ariel one's (unless you count China Doll in Feb), that was a long wait! LOL and I definitely know what you mean about having withdrawals but then when they start releasing them think that it is almost excessive because they just release them one after the other.

In my opinion to be honest I just dont think that there will be any LE release for Maleficent nor will Disney be releasing anything earlier due to the movie. In the past the October LE doll release was during the first Tuesday/Wednesday of October so this yea that will be around Oct 7. So I would say that that is when we should be expecting Maleficent to be released as that is when the bluray release date is set.

I believe that Aurora will be released for preorder around late July/early August with information coming out about a week or two before then, so one would assume it would be mid July.

With the designer fairy dolls this was just something "different" that disney decided to do which I think was in response to the absence in a LE doll for the Peter Pan diamond edition release. My theory is that they decided to go with a designer line for the fairies because they were smaller in size when compared to the LE dolls and were more suitable for fairies because making a LE 17" inch doll of a fairy would be a little odd due to how big they would be. If you noticed the designer fairies did not look designer at all, they looked just like replicas of their characters in the cartoon. Sort of like the LE dolls do.

I meant exactly that, yes.

Okay, I now get what you mean. Maybe it would really be a good idea, sort of a information thread about current prices/real value/ebay etc.?
I realized that the informationthread about the 17" hadn't been updated as well, but Snow Anna has not been sold on ebay deboxed, so I have no idea that way how her value would change. Do you mean by damaged 'the box has wrinkles, rips etc' or 'the box was once opened to see certificate/release the doll'?

Sorry about being off topic, but I've just purchased a LE doll from eBay and the seller wants me to collect in person and pay cash as we live in the same area. While this saves me on postage, what do I need to do in regards to the eBay listing as it's asking for payment via PayPal? Does it need to be cancelled so I can't be forced to pay twice or something? Thanks!

After you pick it up either yourself or the seller can mark it as paid and shipped as eBay does allow people to pay by cash through pick up. (Especially with larger items like motor vehicles etc). No need to cancel the eBay sale.

Thanks Polaris! I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't have pay twice (once via paypal and once via cash).

well again that would really depend on each individual. I know some people consider opening the box to check the COA as opening the item whereas others do not. Personally I would say creases on the box or opening it to check the COA does not warrant it being opened or damaged. Rather things such as tears on the box as being damaged and the dolls being removed completely out of the box (which involved removing the little bands that hold the doll in place as opening the doll.

Arguably you could consider damage to the box as decreasing the value of the doll by a minor amount because the doll would still be in mint condition and it is just the box that has been damaged. So more than likely this would only decrease the value by a minimal amount I would probably say about 20-30% but again that would depend on the individual buying it. A damaged box doll would mean a lot more to a deboxer than one that would like to display the doll.

A doll ill that has been deboxed on the other hand I think would see tease the value by at least 50% if not more generally because at this point you don't know what might be missing from the doll as it has been removed from the box.

Could there be some kind of LE with the Maleficent movie? something similar like China Doll? I thought maybe the fairys but they have the actresses face and not animated like China..

I hadnt heard that but would love this. It would be 3PM my time instead of 3AM. Much easier time to be up and on the computer to get the releases.

I don't believe there is anything coming out relating to the Maleficent movie. Unlike with Oz I dont believe there is an opportune character for Disney to create a LE doll for. China Doll was perfect because Disney was able to create a replica doll, I don't believe there is such a character in Maleficent. Also with this year being the year that Sleeping Beauty is getting her diamond edition release it is more likely that any LE dolls that will be released will be released based on the animated movie as opposed to being based on a live action movie.

I do hope this does not happen, but it is odd that they have been changing the release times, I wonder if this is just to accommodate for the Frozen hype.

I'm not sure Disney minds if scalpers buy up the stock as long as someone does, though it's nice to think that they care. Releases in the afternoon may actually help scalpers if it is their "day job" most folks are at work during that time.

To be honest changing the time items are released online will not deter scalpers it will catch them off guard but it will do the same for collectors too. So I don't think them changing the release time would be to deter scalpers but instead to make the items more accessible.

I'd counter that with, only more accessible to people who don't work in the middle of the day. If Disney changes their release times I won't be able to get anything anymore, at least everyone has the chance to stay up for it at the current timing, but it would be hard to keep an eye on DS.com all day for a release without getting in serious trouble. I am hoping this is just for Frozen because they want to get the stock up online as soon as they can.

I feel so anxious . . . I can't wait to see what Aurora looks like because I absolutely LOVE these 17 inch dolls! So excited

I feel that there isn't really a time where everyone will be satisfied. 12:00 PST is good for a lot of people who live on the west coast, but that means its 3:00 AM on the east coast, which is where I live. Its inconvenient for me, but thankfully these limited edition releases of things like dolls aren't too often.
