Limited Edition 17" Collector Dolls Information
Anyone else here follow StitchKingdom for any extra info? Well, I do. ;)
Look at this:
"Disney Sets Dates for Animated Films Through 2018
According to Exhibitor Relations, Disney has announced several dates through 2018 for a slate of untitled animated features from both Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studios. The dates are as follows:
Walt Disney Animation Studios: 3/4/16, 11/23/16, 3/9/18, 11/21/18.

Pixar Animation Studios: 6/17/16, 6/16/17, 11/22/17, 6/15/18."

You know at least 2 of these have to be princesses. Mystery and Intrigue!

*sigh* This little corner of the site used to be so lively. Now, there's nothing new to talk about so it's so dead. :(
So, just wanted to stop by and say hi to all my fellow collector peeps out there. :)
HOPEFULLY WE GET THE SLIGHTEST BIT OF SOMETHING SOON!

I am somewhat surprised that another doll hasn't been released this year thus far (I really thought they would do one of the Oz witches or the rumored Jasmine)...although on the other hand I'm glad they aren't going doll-crazy and "banging them out" super fast (and not focusing on quality). It also makes collecting these dolls a longer process and keeps collectors interested, instead of releasing every character quickly (thus making people forget about this collection and move onto something else).

I really hope Ariel is amazing and features high-quality fabrics and details. I am also really curious if she will get more than one doll like Rapunzel and Merida did (maybe a doll with mermaid tail and a human doll), or if she will get one doll and a corresponding villain doll. If they go the villain route I really, really, really hope they do a Vanessa doll...I feel like she would turn out fabulous!

On another note...I just acquired the LE 17" Belle doll and she is beautiful! Just looking at pictures of the dolls she wasn't one of my favorites, but actually having her in person has changed my mind...she is actually really well done. :) Now I just need Tiana and the elusive Snow White to complete my princess collection (and Mother Gothel and Queen of Hearts if I want to have all of them :)). I really do love these dolls and hope they eventually do every "official" princess, and a few more sidekicks/villains. I think my "wishful thinking" doll would be Charlotte in her giant pink dress.

I'm also really curious if Frozen will get dolls that correspond with this collection, and if there will be a Designer Doll collection this year. Even though the doll releases have been pretty nonexistent so far this year I have a feeling that will change over the next few months! :anxious:

I am really excited to see the LE Ariel doll. I hope that the lack of dolls at the moment means they are taking their, crafting the most gorgeous LE doll yet! I have a feeling they will do two Ariel dolls. One as a mermaid and one as a human. I am hoping for an LE Ursula/Vanessa as well. The LE Frozen dolls should be gorgeous as well. I am saving up now for all TLM/Frozen madness that is bound to happen at the end of the year haha.

Between the D23 (presumably a designer collection) and the TLM dolls you better have about $920 saved, so probably best to start now. We all are dying for something, but I'm sure pretty soon we will all be freaking out!

I'm new to all this! LOVE ariel! If there were two le dolls, would they be released the same time? Or one at a time?

They generally release the dolls one at a time. The pre orders to Ariel is expected to come out next month. Then I believe that the villain doll will come out as a surprise release the same day that the blu ray is released.

personally I do not think that they will release two versions of Ariel mainly because historically all the princesses only had one release, Snow, Belle, Tiana, Cinderella. With the only exceptions being Merida and Rapunzel but this is because they are the newer of the princesses hence a doll was released both during the movie release and the DVD release. In Rapunzel's case it was during the DVD release and the release of the short ever after but regardless because Ariel is an older princess she may only get one doll. However Ariel is very popular and always has been and due to the lack of dolls this year there is a possibility that Disney could release two dolls because unlike the other princesses she does have two forms. (I know Tiana has two as well but I don't think people would want a giant doll of a frog).

I only hope that they do release a villain doll this year again like they did with Gothel and Tremaine as Ursula is another favorite villain for most people.

Since they shied away from doing a heavy-set Ursula for the Designer Line, I could see them doing a Vanessa surprise release - or the second Ariel doll being a surprise release. The real surprise to me would be a 17" huge big Ursula. I'd get that for sure, but I think her size poses a problem for the doll box.

I agree, I sort of see Vanessa being more likely than Ursula if they were to do another surprise villain for the TLM release. But I sort of wish they did try do an Ursula doll as she is such a memorable character but I guess it would be a little difficult as Ursula does not technically wear a dress or anything so they would have to do something to make it stand out or make her tentacles look like a dress of sorts.

either way I cannot wait to see what they come up with.

I just had a nightmarishly horrifying thought. What if they throw a curveball and decided to ditch Vanessa, not attempt the full sized Ursula...and then decided to do a Morgana instead? Oh...I'D BE PEESSED!
Plain and simple, they CAN do it. A full sized Ursula could be done and should be done. She has been depicted in a billion different poses and if they did her in a twisted to the side pose where she was turned somewhat to the side, it could be done. (And I won't stop calling out for it until the Ariel doll release date where we learn what they decided to do...or not do...) And I so want Flotsam and Jetsam wrapped around her shoulders like a boa or something!

I find it unlikely that they would do a Morgana doll. Mainly because all the dolls so far have been based on the first movie. (With the exception of wedding rapunzel but in all fairness it wasn't really a sequel it was more of a short). Besides most of the sequels were generally non-canon, straight to DVD releases that were produced by a different Disney department all together.

I think this is also the reason why we see such little merchandise of the characters from sequels.

I have yet to see a sequel that is released in theaters as a major blockbuster like their original counterparts. Note I am only referring to all the Disney Animation Studios movies.

Plus wasn't some of the animation for the short planned to be in the movie? I remember reading they had worked in a final wedding scene but ditched it at the last moment. It's almost like the wedding short was to make up for it and to use the animation they had. At least I think I read that somewhere. Maybe someone else knows for sure.

I'm very sorry to say It but I feel as if they make an Ursula, it will be skinny again. I mean a fat one is MANDATORY considering they have inspiration for the doll like when she turns huge and the crown with the trident! Her size is a must, Flotsam and Jetsam are bonus points along with her shell necklace, forget the fact it was crushed moments earlier, it would be apart of her essence. Sure there was a fat one with this inspiration already but like an updated one is necessary. A Vanessa doll whereas tis coveted, it is unlikely since Disney doesn't pay attention to characters like dat. I for one would enjoy a two pack of Ursula and Vanessa but that is rather unlikely as well.

Does anyone else have a feeling that China Girl will pop back up like Merida has, with the release of the bu ray on Tuesday?? I'm anxiously awaiting Ariel, who's my favorite princess!!!

I've also read that there's an Enchanted sequel in the works. Amy Adams IMBD also has it listed under her projects. I WOULD LOVE a Giselle limited edition doll!! Enchanted is one of my favorite movies and I wish there was more collectable merchandise! There's nothing new, as if Giselle never existed. I wish the would have included her in the Disney Princess lineup.... I've read that there was some behind the scenes stuff going on with likeness issues and what not. However a MULTI BILLION dollar company like disney, should have handled the Gisele situation more appropriately. Pay Amy Adams, it's an investment!!

Ha! I was thinking the same thing. It has been this year's theme huh? Re-re-re-releasing. I find it less likely, but I would rather LOVE to get a Wicked Witch of the West surprise release. I just don't see there being anything released this Tuesday.

And, that's actually pretty interesting news about an Enchanted 2. That's been a rumor within the company for a long time. I really really LOVED Susan Sarandon as Narissa. Seriously, perfection! And, you know, it's true about the whole Amy Adams "controversy". If I were that famous, I wouldn't care about likeness payments and whatnot. But, in all honesty, I do respect her for that. Disney is a multi billion dollar company...but they seriously are ridiculously cheap. I wouldn't be surprised if she was treated as nothing more than a regular cm and if they tried to take advantage of her as such.

All I know is...I WANT TO GET AT LEAST SOME DETAILS OF WHAT TO EXPECT THIS YEAR!! O.0

I would love a new Enchanted film. They could start out in the real world and go save the animated world maybe? Like Bedknobs and Broomsticks. I missed out on the Enchanted merch last time, when it was on clearance no less, and would get everything this time around.

Just a crazy fantasy of mine, but what if they made a LE doll of the Golden Harp from Fun & Fancy Free? I would die, I loved that one as a child. Just re-watched it last night for the first time in over 15 years. I'm sure if they made 500 or so it would all sell. Sigh.....and while I'm dreaming, I want a 17in Centaurette from Fantasia!

One of my random internet insomnia surfing nights actually lead me to flicker. There was someone that actually made ooak dolls for the Golden Harp and 3 Centaurettes. They were to beautifully done that it was insane.

I have plans to do it someday. Probably after college, I'll need something to do when there is no homework and only one job ^^ It is one of my dreams right now, though customizing seems hard, so it may not work out.

Question about the whole Amy Adams likeness controversy, Mattell had dolls of both Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey. Why didn't disney? Does anyone know? The dolls on eBay are CRAZY expensive:/

Probably because Mattel produces a lot more merch (think volume) than Disney, and they have the budget to splash out on licensing. Example: Pirates, they bought both the Disney License and Johnny Depp & Penelope Cruz likenesses.

Yeah, that's true, maybe Mattell doesn't mind paying since they have many pop culture dolls with celebrity likenesses.

I honestly do not think the royalties is an issue at all, granted it is up to the actor or actress if they would like their image used on merchandise (which I believe in Amy Adams case she did not)but I think Disney just does not want to go down that track. I just don't think they want to make merchandise of actual people and would rather promote their own characters hence why most disney merchandise is on the animations and not the movies.

have you noticed that of all the merchandise that disney sells, the only ones they continue to sell over many years are the animated characters. You don't see very Mary Poppins, Pirates of the Carribean, Enchanted etc merchandise and I think this is because Disney wants to only focus on the younger audience and I am assuming they believe that cartoon characters sell better than live action ones, due to the use of colours and softer features.

also as mentioned above there are other companies who are willing to use people's likeness such as Mattel and the lesser known Hot Toys figures, and the royalties must not be that much that Disney could not afford it or would affect their decision to create live action character merchandise because hot toys is a much smaller company than Mattel and Disney and yet they are able to afford to make most merchandise based on actors and actresses.

I just think that it all really comes down to Disney's preference and I think that live action merchandise is something they would rather let other producers deal with. Besides whilst the idea of having a Giselle doll would be awesome she does only spend about 5-10 minutes of the entire movie in cartoon format as a majority of it is live action.

i am looking forward to a sequel to enchanted though, hopefully we get more info soon, by the sounds of it everything is in very early stages at the moment, with everything being based on rumours. They don't even have a release date.
