My Best advice to you newbies that attend to you're first PTN.

Helllo all. I have notice a lot of new members with Questions?? about PTN's well I shall give my info about it plus not to feel Intimidated,

1...Learn you're pin well.
This means research the internet ask around. and or just ask questions. It is the only way you learn Remember we started some how,

2...Have patience.
It is needed sometimes when it comes to trading as it may take days months. This depends on the pins you're wishing to get but! It does pay off to have it so you don't have major Disappointment down the road. plus you can save money especially when you know how to spot a fake pin just saying,

3...Stock up on what you can.
Which means depending what pins you're after. stock up on some steady supply of pins have Small traders for say kids or small and or easy wants- Next get all around pins another words pins that fall in the $10 - $40 range Next if you can afford it. some higher end pins around $50 - $100 range. But beware not spend really high $$ on traders as you could use the money to buy that Grail of yours,

4...Have a plan.
This is a good idea here is what I usually do I start at one end and go up and down each row so I simply saw more pins that way. as you do see more that way,

5...Don't ever feel you have nothing.
Remember the old saying? "One man's trash is another man's treasure" this is also true in the pin world too! Example I could like Haunted mansion Indiana Jones. but you might like Pirates and or Hidden mickeys. get my point. That should make you feel better if not keep you're head up high,

6...Have Fun
No matter how bad or good trading is to anyone.. if you don't have fun then it's not the hobbie for you,

Anything else to add to the list let me know.

I really like this. Some pin traders need to remember that pin trading is supposed to be fun, and not a d!*k swinging contest. "Well that collection is dumb.....This pin is worth more than those...."

Also, rule #5 hit it home with me. I have a couple traders, nothing too fancy or extravagant. Some traders want nothing to do with them, and then some others want them so bad. So please do keep your head up.

note or addition: Don't focus on ONLY your wants. Sometimes what you have for trade won't get you that "holy grail." But trading one of your pins to get a different type/style/character will get you closer to your grail.

I don't like/ collect Jasmine, But the person who had my grail did. It took me 3 trades to finally find a Jasmine pin they liked so I coukld get my grail. If I had been unwilling to trade those pins around for items I dont collect, I would never have gotten my grail.

Great advice. Id LOVE to go to a PTN, and info like this is very useful. Im still collecting (im in the stage where Im only buying for myself) so my trades arent a lot, but its good to know that even one of my pins could be wanted by someone who has a pin I really want. Im going to WDW in November, and Im really hoping there is some kind of PTN out there at the beginning of the month :x:

I have a question: I've actually been to a few PTNs and a few events, but I'm still not sure what it means when people do a corkboard. I've heard those are people's easier trades, but I've seen people with pretty good pins on their boards as well.

These are all great tips... I can add something... My favorite part about the PTN's is just lookin at pins... This actually gives you the best chance to really see pins in other peoples collections that help you really be sure if the pin you are thinking of getting is worth getting or not... Even more so, this has allowed me to find hundreds of pins that I did not know even existed... So go find the collections your looking to pursue and see what is out there...

Also... This does not require you to have any trading pins... Good ones or bad ones... LOL

Thank you for sharing advice with us newbies.

I hope after my situation at work that I will be get more free time and plan a trip around a PTN or a release to be able to experience one of these one day.

It's great to hear encouraging words and that everyone has gone through the same things and it's nothing personal, justs part of the learning process.

Hmm, I wasn't even really aware of these nights. I accidentlly happened across some pin traders in Disneyland on my last trip in May (and I got a nice one of Stitch in the Astro-Orbitor) but I'll have to keep an eye on the schedule now to see if I can correlate my next trip to a PTN.

Love all the pointers and I especially love the good vibes coming from the new crop of traders.

I was running around with a sheet of the pins for which I was looking. It seemed to work out really well, as it was very quick to show the wants list and I would either get a positive result or a polite negative. Most people know exactly what is in their traders, at any given time, or they would direct me to other tables where I might try.

General networking seems to work out too, as you can probably find someone else's wants and get involved in multi-trades for stuff that you want.

Hmm, that is a very good idea with the sheet. Am going to have to try that.

Amazing advice all around.. I am going to have to keep it all in mind. I am really look forward to my first PTN at DSF on the 29th! (: but was a little nervous about my lack of traders.. but, I will try the list idea and if anything network. it's never a total loss. it's fun!
