New Frozen Pins
That is the key reason why I think this set won't come close to the GSF set in terms of selling per pin: the hype (and cause, let's be honest, they're not as nice). The Frozen GSF set has the same story as the WiR and Tangled DSF set; they did well, but blossomed after the DVD came out. Why did they do SO well after the DVD came out? Simple, all the pins were already in collectors hands so there were only 100 or so on the market and people had to fight for them after they realized what they were missing out on (the dolls also shot up).

Look at every LE WiR pin that has come out ever since the DSF set, not one has ever done as well as any pin in the original set (or the DS.com pins) which all came out before WiR became popular. The reason being, after it became popular, it was too late to get them back and those who had them weren't letting them go. Heck, every LE Tangled pin has never done as well as those that came out before Tangled got popular (marquee, R/C, Designer, Compcat all came out before Tangled was big and no Tangled pin ever hit as high as those 4 did).

That combined with what always kills pin values: hype. Hype has hurt nearly every big GSF release since Frozen and every big PTD after it comes out. They always start higher than they end up. Look at all the big recent PTDs and the Mali pins, every pin sold for really high when it first came on the market and now sells for less. Now that a lot of people are greedier, they are charging more than they can get and everyone is rushing to get rid of their stuff ASAP in fear of not making as much as the next guy. It's great for buyers, but terrible when a pin first comes out.

I'm not saying that it's guaranteed that these won't do as well, but with history, the greedy sellers, and the big killer "hype" (which this set already has had so much of, people are offering $700 on Fb without even seeing the pins in real life, they just want them to have them at all costs, that mindset is the definition of hype) are making this set look like every single set that has ever come out after a movie became the "big" thing, it will be big, but it won't be AS big as what people are hoping for (which I bet people are gonna expect about $300-400 a pin...not gonna happen).

I liked WiR, but I don't think you can compare that movie to Frozen. Heck, even comparing Tangled to Frozen would be unfair to Rapunzel and Flynn! Most of Frozen merchandise has sold out for a reason. Whenever I go to my local DS (even the flagship store in NYC), there is literally a small shelf of Frozen stuff which consists of clothes for small children, and some Hans dolls. There are plenty of Tangled merchandise, and I didn't see WiR there, but Frozen sells. And they sell well.

No the original Reveal Conceal princess set is pretty rare. It's the ones that look like crests from a few years ago.

Both parks were suppossed to get them but I guess the shipment or somthing never arrived in WDW and then with Tangled being new and the pins being really pretty they all got swooped up. Lots of them went to the public, others went to pin traders but the thing is is that the Rapunzel pin was so rare in the set because it was like a super chaser. It could be in any of the "hidden spots" while the rest were mostly the other half od the princesses/girls.

A lot of people think there's only about 14 - 20 Rapunzel in circulation, and most that people have are damaged or have production errors and flaws. It's the lowest edition Tangled pin so far (if you're not counting aps/pps/).

geez! is it this one?

You're right on the money with that one, dude. The excitement used to be in getting the pin along with everyone else, when it is released. Now, it behooves the second-hand buyer to wait it out a couple of days, maybe even weeks for the prices to go down again. It's like Limited Edition sizes of 300 and 500 no longer mean anything; the rush comes from getting the pin within the first couple of hours of release, and then it becomes harder and harder for re-sellers to get them off their hands at the same price. Ralph was selling for nearly $150 on instagram the moment it was released. Now I see someone selling it "as low as" (because it's still not low at all) $60. King Triton is going through the same.

PTDs are like cars; in the lot, they're expensive. As soon as you drive them out, their value quickly depreciates. I'm glad some sharky re-sellers are getting their just desserts (pa-dum-psh). Perhaps this will calm things down, kinda...sorta...maybe?

But Frozen was a bigger hit than WiR. They are one of the top blockbuster films of all time! I liked WiR a lot! It was funny, touching, and other positive adjectives, but it did not do as well as Frozen. Sure, WiR has there fans, but Frozen has a bigger fandom. "Let it Go" was playing in the radio waves here in NoVA! I found it so funny, but it shows just how much Frozen was successful. I didn't hear any songs from Tangled on the radio, or from any other Disney film. If I don't buy a set, then someone with deep pockets will. Apparently there were parents buying the Elsa costume for more than $300!!! Because it sold out in the local DS! Anyhoo, my point is is that this set will be more successful than WiR. It's the reseller fault for asking for so much than what WiR are willingly to shell out. Just my $0.02 ;)

If anyone can get these for a reasonable cost, I'd really only be interested in Sven and Olaf. Of course I'd want Anna and Elsa, but I don't think my bank account (nor my wife for that matter) would allow their prices.

This set will most definitely NOT hit $2k. I mean, yes they'll be expensive and they have a low LE size, but I doubt even 1 of them will hit Elsa Stained Glass level. She may be LE400, but the reason why people really want Elsa Stained Glass is because, as a pin, it's gorgeous. I've yet to hear one person express that these pins are absolutely stunning. The artwork is cute and if you like Marshmellow or trolls, it's the first pin, but for Olaf, Anna, Kristoff, and Elsa (the most expensive pins), I haven't heard anything rave about them besides "I need them to stay a completionist!"

Likewise, while the trolls and Marshmellow are having their first pin, they won't go as high as Anna or Elsa because in the end, not nearly as many people want them as they do Anna or Elsa. I could see this set hitting a little under $1000 tops when it first comes out, but it will drop after the hype falls since, as pins, they're just okay. The thing to remember is, being LE200, there won't be many left after the hype (unless people charge RIDICULOUS amounts nobody can afford).
Hi Sweetie, I wasn't being serious when I stated 2k. I was just being unbelievably silly. As it's unbelievable that WDI has done this so soon. I mean we all know it's coming Frozen PTDs and a Frozen BT. And let's not forget Paris. I'm glad I did collect the Tangled pins that I have. I'm going to need them as traders. Nice chatting with everyone. Hugs

A lot of us still looking for an image of these. Can someone at least tell us where on FB to look?

One of the members here was kind enough to send me an image of the pins. If anyone still needs that, PM me and I'll forward it to you.

While Frozen is far more popular in terms of general merchandise, pins are different and more specific since little kids and parents don't go after the general merchandise. It's a totally different market :) Frozen has yet to beat Tangled in the pin world since no pin has sold even close to as much as the higher end Tangled pins and yet even Tangled went through that "decrease after the hype." If Tangled went through that, Frozen definitely will. WiR did as well and while no, WiR wasn't as popular as Tangled or Frozen; Stitch, Jessica, Tink, all popular pins at one point went through the same cycle. It's just proof that all pins that have ever been popular "decrease with hype."

That's for sure, I never said it wouldn't be. My point was that the reason this set will drop in price purely because people are hyping it up too much. If it starts selling at $1000, give it a few days and it'll reach $800, another few and maybe it'll settle at $600, but it will not hit $1000 and then keep rising.

If a co-op gets going Id love the marshmellow and/or sven and/or trolls...
And I don't really do facebook, but have an account - if someone could PM me a facebook link or pic it would be great!

Actually the Tangled pins didn't start getting bonkers expensive until like a year after the movie was out. Same with WiR. The Frozen pin prices will probably continue to climb and then will stay stagnant after about a year. Until the next big thing comes out! I think it is safe to say we can project Frozen pins to become more expensive than Tangled ones ever have been. Unless all the pin collectors learned their lesson from Tangled and just say "no way" to the crazy prices.

And I am in a group of parents who hunt for Frozen merchandise for their kids (on Facebook). You would be SHOCKED at how many of them are getting into pins solely because of Frozen. I have had these parents PMing me about how to get the WDI set (they know I have a collection). Someone recently bought her daughter the DSF pin of Anna and Elsa. It is kind of crazy that even people that aren't pin collectors are diving in because of the movie's popularity!!

Ah, okay. I wasn't a pin trader then but I heard when Tangled became big was when pin trading blew up. WiR did become popular as soon as it became digital on DVD. I remember exactly the week it became digital that 7 WiR DSF wanted thread appeared within 2 days and I remember saying "I'm so glad I was a WiR collector from the start."

Well as of the past few months, no Frozen pin has risen in price and they've been stagnant for a long time now with the highest being Elsa Stained Glass at $400. Until she reaches $700, she's nowhere close to anything Tangled :) I honestly think that people have learned their lesson (well, most people, those who rush and buy it within hours of release I can't speak for lol).

My condolences go out to all those parents  but even with them around, the prices of Frozen pins have been stagnant for a long time now, sadly, "stagnant" doesn't mean "cheap."

So, how does one pre-order these if they are a CM? My friend works as a CM at WDW and is willing to try and get them, but she says when she logs into the hub she doens't see them for pre-order. Does anyone know how to actually/where to actually pre-order them? Thank you so much!
