Was wondering if anyone had pictures of the new area and the games they offer there. I have not been to DLR since the change and was wondering what it looked like :)

no pics. but the games:

"panning for gold" you dig a coin out of a sand bowl, normal coin normal trade on thier board. special coin has special pins. I have yet to get a special coin.
fishing for your choice. a basket with magnetic "fish" you catch, each fish a diff color. the fish you catch determines which area you get to trade a pin from.

there are no barrels. there are picnic tables to sit at. The have shows on the stage regularly so the music/jokes get old... but sittying down! horay!

Now if only traders would give it a chance.

It's basically a somewhat covered arena with benches, as seating for the stage entertainment, and about 4 picnic benches for trading. There is a lot of other stuff going on back there like a coloring section, character meet and greets, snack carts and a pin cart, as well as regular stage performances.

It is a nice area, with a lot of potential. The one thing it lacks and the single most valid complaint is that there is almost no foot traffic. It will probably grow over time and be pretty much only traders back there, but the random person looking to trade a pin or two is not likely to stumble upon it. Would have really liked to have seen a sign that directed people to the new spot for trading, at Westward Ho.

It can be nice with the shade and benches but no foot traffic. The only trades I do are the one other trader that may sit there and the cast members. The music is okay but annoying every hour on top of the hour. Watching the characters can be fun. I miss the barrels and being next to the bench. It would be nice having a pin area for us but I am not too fond of the "new" area. I see myself not wanting to go to DLR for trading as much.

I think you guys are lucky to have an area like that with COAT, CMs trading and pin games. I wish we had an area like that at WDW.

For at the people who are getting their panties in a bunch over a different trading area: Disney moves them around, they've done it for years. Are you really that inflexible that you can't just trade at some other area of the park? Really? You're already *in* D-Land, is it *that* difficult to get used to a different spot *in* the park? You can't go right instead of left?

When I first started pins, the pin trading area was held on Main Street, there was fencing and tables on the patio area just outside Showcase (on the side nearer the Mad Hatter store). It's been moved around several times through the years. Personally, I thought outside Westward Ho was annoying--a couple of barrels, always in the sun or rain, no place to sit.

I haven't seen the new area, but if it has benches and is sheltered, that sounds awesome. I'm sure it'll become more crowded as pin traders become aware of it by word of mouth or reading about it.

Everyone who was previously at Westward Ho barrels has moved to LGM. Good traders, bad traders, sharks, guppies, everyone.

I am sure that the folks at DLR will soon remove those 4 tables. They got rid of the barrels due to guest complaints, sellers and scrap traders.

We do not know if that is true or not. And I don't think we should start making assumptions as to reasons why the barrels are gone.

I spoke to a Lead Cast Member at Big Thunder Ranch about the subject. She informed me that the Big Thunder Ranch pin trading area is experimental for the summer only.

I would think if they did not want pin traders they would have just removed the barrels without offering the new area.

Um, but they did remove the barrels without announcing a new pin trading area. And I will see your Lead Cm and raise you someone with 40 years experience very close to George's office. Trust me, I know MORE than I am willing to say, but I will say this.

Guest complaints, selling and scrap trading has caused to barrels to be removed.

In a way, I'm surprised they didn't remove the tables at LGM too and leave the new area as the only sanctioned place in the Park.

Guess time will tell what will become of pin trading in the park. I do like the general idea behind the new area and wish that it was better advertised, so people would go back there and check it out. The total lack of foot traffic makes many traders not even want to give it a shot.

If they would lower the rediculous prices on that hot dog cart, I'd be hanging out back there ;).

Tables by LGM were shady, lots of room to sit and trade. kinda nice:).

I don't really know what traders you classify as "sharks" but it's the same people as always. Some trade hard, some trade easy. I don't really consider someone a shark bc they try to uptrade me. I just decline if it's something I don't want or think any fair and move on. No biggee. Everyone trades with their own strategy. I've also never seen or heard of anyone selling a pin at trading tables since I've been going. everyone is pretty nice in both areas for past 2 years :)

We go there to hang out and socialize all the time. We are surprised when someone wants to trade for a pin out of our book. My last trip got me assigned as escort for the kid wanting to ride rides and the kid and I had a lot of fun!

That's kind of how I do it. I know who the sharks are and so do you. I close my book(s) to them or simply say I am not trading with THEM.
