What should our next online PINaholics Anymouse discussion topic be?

Our first online group chat went fairly well about two weeks ago, we did have alittle orginizational mayhem, but overall most folks were satisfied, and in a world where pin traders live to collect shiny pieces of painted metal that aint to bad!!! We will endevour to make it smoother, and also attempt to make it even more lively, maybe even a little format change?

But this poll is to find out what topics ,you the DPF members want to chat about most?
And in what format? in a panel discussion, Q&A kinda format or round table with everyone?
While we are in the Blue Sky phase of planning here, sound off about the following topics PLEASE!!!

what you wanna have as topic?

roundtable or panel?

Future updates will be posted as we progress, As was discussed at the onset, I would like to try to do these at least once a month <possible more if intrest dictates> and as our first poll indicated 2/3 of you said you would like varing times and days, so we will attempt this next one at an offset time and date once format and topic are discussed!

Thank you for inputting your feelings and preferances, it is only through and active community that we can make both DPF and the Pin Trading Community in general a better place for ALL of us!!!

I would like know how to value a pin. I know this is subjective. I am talking about what is an acceptable comparrison. IE if a pin is an older OE and has 23 trading and 200 wanting compared to an LE 250 pin where 20 people are trading and 35 want. I am still learning this and this comparison makes it hard to trade online. When face to face you can work something out. I know I have offered lopsided trades because I don't understand what is fair. And I hope i didn't offend any one I just don't know any better. I was also told that I gave better than received in some trades. I don't mind that since I know what I want and what I am willing to give up. I just want to be able to offer a fair trade. I hope this makes sense. I also feel this would be better discussed in a round table meeting.

I have to agree with mixedwolf. The question of how to value a pin comes up regularly. I mean yeah, theres the subjective part, like does THIS particular trader want the pin badly? but there are other factors that are fairly standard and that should be discussed.

also, count me in for being on the Q&A panel again. it was fun!!!

There IS a price guide, but the problem is that it is not 100% accurate, and the accuracy is only at release of the guide. Just months later, the prices can be VERY different.

yes.. i get that disney has the outdated book. I mean a true price guide that would come out 12 times a year. just like they do in other collection hobbys.. lol

+4 on this...in a perfect world it would be a panel discussion with panel members representing different viewpoints. I know that value is always a combination of factors, but some traders use mostly ebay value, others will only trade for the same size LE, some will only trade 1-for-1, etc. etc. etc.

I think a panel discussion would be better than a round table - I suspect it would be hard to keep a round table organized/focussed. The ability to submit questions in advance would allow everyone to have their areas of interest addressed.

actually having dealt with the price guides for comic books, the price guides are only accurate at the time they went to press, they were outdated the next day. But at least you would have a guideline.

OK i know its been a busy week, but the weekends acoming, everyone take a deep breath and hang on!!

Are there any other suggestions for theme or format? We seem to have gotten stuck on this one theme or is this the high demand topic?
Im cool with it either way, just want to hear from more of you on YOUR thoughts?

happy hunting

I think with everything that has happened since the announcement of all the April DSF pins, and the PTDs, maybe some discussion about scalping and mark ups

I am glad I didn't miss it. I missed the first one and really liked this idea of the different discussions. It will be a great help to learn more about this hobby(addiction). The more you know the more fun it becomes.

Since pricing seems to be the main topic, how about we expand it?

value standards: How do you value your pins for trade and for resale?
Quality: what do you look for when inspecting a pin?

both these topics are very subjective, but having a decent number of experienced traders answering will give the newer folks a good base for reference.
