I normally don't even make exceptions, but I must have sent this per the person's request. 33 dollars isn't a lot of money to be out, but it's been a month and no pin, and I could have SWORN I didn't send it as payment owed, but I am super sad because I am probably not going to see this pin that I really wanted! (and yes, I've contacted the person, yadda yadda, no response. So sad!) As an aside, seller is missing and I am not the only one who is out pins.

But this isn't about a missing pin, it's about being unable to do anything via paypal about a missing pin. Stuff happens, I know that, but being prepared for stuff happening is something I don't think is unreasonable! I am not being negative or condemning this person in any way, I don't KNOW what's going on with them. But I will be protecting myself and paying a few dollars more in the future to not have to worry if I'm going to get my item or not- I'm covered on ebay, I should be sure to be covered elsewhere. Once again, I am not talking about "Boo hoo I'm a victim of whatever", I am saying that I won't put myself or my seller/buyer in a place where I can't get a refund should something happen.

I always have paid the fees myself with people sending me money because I'd rather be able to file a claim than have no kind of protection, and I know people don't want to pay fees, but otherwise no one has really any way to protect themselves from pins getting lost/damaged/scammed/whatever. I think sending a little bit extra to the person I am paying is an okay exchange for the fees, which is what I tend to do because it just seems polite. They're selling me something I'd like to get and they could otherwise trade.

Yowch!

Yeah, I usually give buyers the two options- toss me some of the cost for Goods (I usually ask for a $1 for them, and if they buy a ton, I end up covering the rest), or do personal.

You know, it's funny you started this thread...I was wondering myself just today- I wonder if Paypal gets curious if you have, like, 10 Personal/payment owed in a day. I might ask for Goods for the rest of my sale, just to be careful...lol.

Yeah, I have to wonder. They have to know the system is being bypassed, or something.

My imagination suggests the mafia is using paypal or something to collect their payments. >:) Payments of 25.95 XD XD XD

If the mafia uses Paypal to collect on debts, do they get to file as a business with Paypal?!

Abyssinian28, Yes...Paypal does indeed get curious.

I've been sending/receiving a lot of personal (no fees) payments, and Paypal has held some of the money, in fact, recently they made my bf who was sending me payments, verify his account by doing the stupid $2 AUD bank deposit to verify that he 'is who he is' :x

Paypal's given me a whole mess of problems in the past.......this recent one I described is not even the half of it!

Hi Constance ~

Maybe you could look into this further. I once sent money as payment owed and it took over 4 weeks for me to finally get the pin. I remember looking into my PayPal account to see if I would be able to dispute this, and if I remember correctly, I felt that I could because I had supporting email documets to show I owed money for a pin and I had confirmation that the pin would be mailed ~ therefore I did feel it gave me grounds to open up a case.

In the end I didn't need to because the pin in question did arrive.

Keep us posted on how this turns out, and I wish you the best! :0)

It's been over a month now, and I only had PMs from them, which I've since deleted because the message box fills up, so I don't even have an email for paypal to look at (I am pretty sure a forum PM wouldn't stand.) I also don't have any kind of mailing confirmation as I've not heard from the seller since I sent the payment (over a month ago), but it's good to know that you might be able to contest it IF you have those things. Definitely something for future memory (though it sounds like paypal makes it a bit of a pain).

Will definitely keep you posted, I hope it's just forgetfulness!

Sorry to hear this mishap Constance. Maybe you can ask the mods for help. Jon is always willing to work with sellers and buyers towards conflict resolution. Sometimes forgetful people need a gentle nudge.

Has the person been active at all? What if they are sick or something? Didn't you have a similar situation awhile back but the positions were reversed? I'm just saying that before you start worrying about the Paypal part of it try figuring out what is going on with the person and get the mods involved if you need too.

Like I said I've attempted contact, I am most certainly being understanding. In that time that I was ill I and my husband received NO messages, no emails, no PMs, nothing to indicate anything was wrong, and in fact the person to initiate contact was my husband when we received the pin back in the mail, so I would not compare me saying I won't be sending money as payment owed/gift to someone not contacting me about a pin I didn't even know didn't get there (how could I know it was lost?)

I am not asking if I should be leaving negative feedback or what to do, I am capable of handling issues without the help of mods, too. This is a post about paypal.

I certainly sympathize with them and with bad situations, I am merely stating that I am no longer going to be putting myself in a place that I cannot do anything about the situation again- you only have 45 days to make a claim from the date payment was sent in paypal, and I can't even make that claim- an option I would in theory like to have in the future.

The mods have a mystical power that the rest of us do not. You'd be surprised how fast some people will respond to a mod when they ignor others. And they can probably see the person's activity as well. We should all be able to handle these situations but sometimes mod involvement is necessary. Just trying to offer some help and a different way to look at it, you can take it or leave it.

I think that the payment owed or gifted is dumb. If you are going to use a service be willing to accept the fees that go along with it. Or add it to the price of the pin(s). We all have to pay fees of some sort. Paypal is one of them.

That's why I do pay the fees, just so I can make sure that just in case something happens everyone can be covered. Mail gets lost, if nothing else! I am really surprised that I send it as a gift at all, not normal for me.

seems like something bad is alway happening to you :( I think you just have bad luck lol

I DO have bad luck! But I am trying to outsmart it XD. I've had bad luck since I was very very young, though since marrying this husband it is actually better! (I think husband #2 was Bad Luck incarnate!) I have a myriad of health issues but otherwise that tends to be the extent of my bad luck.

I'm not really mad or anything, I mean stuff happens (though I love the pin that's gone astray) but I just think this is the nail in the coffin for me with the fees from ebay. They're not that much in the end (Last time I used it, it was 20 dollars to send 300 via western union!) and it saves so much heartache and issue!

This is just sad, i mean is it that hard to just be honest and responsible. :(

i mean, i don't sell things and i am not sure how this works, but it seems like some people are just rude and plain irresponsible.
is it that hard to receive the money and send out the pin someone purchase from you, god, i mean the day this happens to me will be a sad day, because this is a horrible way to interfere with the amazing happiness pin trading brings to our lives. sometimes i hate people, lol. i guess that is why i like animals more, they are never going to steal from me of give me these dishonest problems.

Constance, i really really hope everything turns out well at the end. :)

When I offer to pick up pins for people or put items on my RSP's I ask that people send me a check, money order or paypal money owed or gift. You owe me the money therefore it's money owed. I was nice enough to go out of my way to go to the event and drag the crap home for you the least people could do is pay all the fees or do money owed. Now, I don't know who this post was started about but I'm just throwing in my 2 cents for the future in case anyone people wants stuff from the parks or the events. So there... (sticks out tongue childishly)

Well I know you personally too XD that changes things with paypal, because I know when you ship stuff (Like, oooooh, I dunno, the LE Mansion Framed Letters set bwa ha ha) that you'll actually insure it and what-have-you, you'll also have the receipt. But "friends and family" are different than "Random person I've never bought from on the forum".
