No more "payment as gift or money owed" for me!

I normally don't even make exceptions, but I must have sent this per the person's request. 33 dollars isn't a lot of money to be out, but it's been a month and no pin, and I could have SWORN I didn't send it as payment owed, but I am super sad because I am probably not going to see this pin that I really wanted! (and yes, I've contacted the person, yadda yadda, no response. So sad!) As an aside, seller is missing and I am not the only one who is out pins.
But this isn't about a missing pin, it's about being unable to do anything via paypal about a missing pin. Stuff happens, I know that, but being prepared for stuff happening is something I don't think is unreasonable! I am not being negative or condemning this person in any way, I don't KNOW what's going on with them. But I will be protecting myself and paying a few dollars more in the future to not have to worry if I'm going to get my item or not- I'm covered on ebay, I should be sure to be covered elsewhere. Once again, I am not talking about "Boo hoo I'm a victim of whatever", I am saying that I won't put myself or my seller/buyer in a place where I can't get a refund should something happen.
I always have paid the fees myself with people sending me money because I'd rather be able to file a claim than have no kind of protection, and I know people don't want to pay fees, but otherwise no one has really any way to protect themselves from pins getting lost/damaged/scammed/whatever. I think sending a little bit extra to the person I am paying is an okay exchange for the fees, which is what I tend to do because it just seems polite. They're selling me something I'd like to get and they could otherwise trade.
