Thank you all for the input! Here is another question:

Do you think there should be a rule about the amount of messages one member can send to another member in regards to a certain pin? Like, do you think there should be some sort of punishment if someone is "pushing it," or "crossing the line"? Of course there would have to be a number of messages that would have to be breeched so that it wouldn't get out of hand. Or do you think we should all just deal with it when it happens, and people can continue to message others?
 

Honestly, I'd like to think that there could be a repercussion for "crossing the line" but I feel like crossing the line is so subjective since what one person might consider crossing the line another might not. I think, if the same person asks the same question over and over about the same pin (specifically along the lines of "can I have it?") I think the best thing you can do is block them

If they are just asking different questions pertaining to the pin, then it's up to your discretion, but I definitely don't think you should just have to sit there and deal with an onslaught of messages if you don't want to and if they cannot take "no" for an answer. If you don't like them constantly messaging you, I'd advise simply saying "look, I'm sorry, but all your messages are filling up my Inbox and I simply cannot answer them all. The final answer is no and if I ever do plan on letting go of the pin, I will let you know" and if they continue to harangue you, block them
 
Those of us that earned our Internet chops in the untamed, unmoderated lands of USENET forums, learned about a wonderful tool at everyone's disposal. It's called the delete key. And wonderfully, delete options work without having to read something! In many instances, it's still the best option to avoid unpleasant and/or drama filled situations. It's also very quick. Only a couple of seconds to click and delete a PM, faster to remove unwanted messages from an email account. I mention speed, because we've seen how things can blow up into huge events that last for days, weeks and months. So in the interests of saving time by writing posts or private responses, and anxiety... choose Delete.

Weeeelllllllllllll I don't want to get your hopes too high up but there is wind of someone getting that pin within the next few months maybe and I have already pointed them in your lovely direction. so if anymore recent news comes up about it I'll be sure to pm you. My fingers are double and triple crossed you get this pin.
 

At some point, polite inquiry becomes unwarranted harassment. Much like plugging your sales thread in chat every 5 minutes, or via I.M. in chat anytime someone enters the room.... There is a clear line where a person needs to know when to STOP. Just STAHP asking for a trade or purchase. We all know this or that person is dieing to get their paws on this or that pin. OR that they have 6 DSF Planes Marquees in their sales thread to offload. OR are having hard times financially.

ONCE is enough when the reply is no. If you politely say no, and receive PM's over and over begging you, that can be considered harassment and to me, it would warrant a report to the MOD's after say... 3-5 times in a month? IDK it would really depend on the level of harassment and how the person is wording the requests.

it makes sense for a typical dialog of:
ME, "Hey, you have pin # 12345 in your collection and I REALLY want it, can we trade or sell?"
YOU, "No, I love this pin, thank you, but it is not available."
ME, "Ok, well if you change you mind please let me know."
**Conversation DONE...**
anything beyond that is being kind of pushy. over and over is inconsiderate.
 
I honestly don't mind yes it does get kinda annoying but I meet more people that way I have had some who were trying to bully me to give them a certain pin and not just here on dpf but also at the parks I will admit I've messaged people here on dpf asking about certian pin in their collection and vice versa all it is is a question my mom always told me"it never hurts to ask a question but don't get your hz seesopes up cuz if they say no you want be disappointed and if they do say yes then you have an intresting story to tell people how you aquired but you better tell me first" and that's what I do till this day too with pins, cars, etc!)
