So I have been holding a pin for a person for about two weeks. Normally I wouldn't wait this long but they seemed nice and just need time to a get a pin to use in their trade for it... In the meantime I have turned away an array of other people wanting it in hopes of staying true to my commitment. We were supposed to do the trade early next week and today I get a PM that the person backed out. In the business world I know this would be extremely flaky and rude but is this okay in pin trading? I am very appalled at the levels people can stoop to, but your opinions would be much appreciated

I think that if the date was set, for a trade, that person has the responsibility to uphold that promise. If there's any problem that comes up he/she needs to call off the trade as soon as possible.

I agree. I was trading pins yesterday and got better offers but stayed with my first one because I made a promise. I think holding a pin for two weeks is super kind and shouldn't be returned with rudeness.

Was any reason given for the other trader backing out? It's flakey if they just changed their mind on a whim, but maybe the deal they made with someone else to get the pin to trade to you fell through? Well, at least you know other people want your pin, you can still trade it away.

No!!! All they said was they felt like we parted ways. Wow that makes no sense, makes me feel like I was supposed to be on some sort of quest or something.

I realize it's disappointing, but from what I can tell in the month I've been on the forum, it happens to everyone. What I have heard people say is that it's etiquette to follow through once mailing addresses have been exchanged, but prior to that nothing is set in stone.

(Of course, nothing is set in stone anyway; it's not as if there's any legally binding obligation or anything like that.)

Unfortunately I think all you can do is just move on. You might be wary of trading with that particular person again, but other than that, just let it go.

Oh, and I wouldn't call them out in public. That seems to be happening a LOT here lately, and the mods have specifically said they don't want people doing this. If you think there's more you can do to resolve it, PM the person or PM a mod, but making these things public-- even in posts like this, without names-- also seems to be considered kind of rude. (Again, that's just what I've observed by reading this forum.)

Were all the details of the trade set in stone and agreed upon? Like "my X for your Y, done deal, we'll exchange on such and such a day" or was the trade still up in the air like "we'll work it out on this day"?

Sort of in between the two. Like with addressed envelopes and everything

Mmmmm.....there really isn't any "in between". Either the trade was worked out or not. If the other person just got the feeling that the two of you weren't going to be able to arrive at an agreement that might be why they ended. Unless the exact trade was worked out and agreed upon by both parties then I don't think you have anything to be mad about.

Something similar happened to me. I'm not going to go through all the details, but after purchasing a pin and setting aside 8 others, and then being jerked around for over a month I finally just gave up. It happens sometimes, and it sucks. At least this person was up front with you.

Same thing happened to me, only someone was going to trade me the Brave marquee, I was going to get them a specific pin for it, I worked out a deal with a guy in Japan over the course of over a week for this pin, and then she backs out after I've already exchanged addresses with the person in Japan

*shrug* I've added the marquee, and the two Pixar Brave pins to the list of pins I'll never get. People want an arm and a leg, and I don't have any of those to spare. ce'st la vie, I give up.

I Honestly Cannot believe you have the gull to post this???? I only backed out because you kept upping the Amount of Pins you wanted in our trade! First you tell me the Brave pin was the last one you had, we worked out a deal for a couple thumper pins you wanted, and Me driving 2 1/2 hours one way up to WDW to pick up the Bambi Anniversary Pin for you. I EVEN Purchased the Miss Bunny Sketch pin to make you happier since it was "Your Ultimate Grail" After I return from my WDW PTN I told you I even had another Surprise for your Package! And what do you say to me then??? Huh??? You then Wanted "8ish" Pins for the logo and required that a certain four were part of the deal, which I only had one of those four pins. (The one I purchased for you) At that point I Had traded for the Logo at the Ptn (one PTN Dumbo Pin forit, which was a super nice offer from a trader who knew that the value of the logo pin was up and down). I was still planning on going through with the trade you were working out with me because we were already working it out, but then You ASK For MORE???? I was starting to feel taken advantage of. And Lied to due to the fact you were telling me through PM that the Pins were LE100's! Niceto know how the Pixar Studio Store just got another Shipment of the"LE100's"

Not to mention that when I was talking to you, I was also having a horrible conversation with another new member... and that was just the Icing on theCake! Also you and this other member were both PMing me at the same time and for the LONG period of time that we were doing so, I happened to notice that EVERY time you Pmed me the other member was offline...And Vice Versa! How am I Supposed to feel when someone who is seeming to be sooo sweet is lying to myface...

I have spoken to others who were with you in chat and all your stories do not match up! There are multiple variations of everything you have said on DPF! I am so angry right now because you are going around telling Lies about me"Backing out" of a trade with you. When In Fact You Changed the Stakes Over and Over …and I was OVER IT! I am not going to let myself be taken advantage of any longer and others here on DPF need to start standing up forthemselves when this type of Behavior is bestowed on them!

I am done Staying Quiet and letting myself be taken advantage of...

 Is exactly how I felt when I found out about this thread of Lies! I am not going to stand for it at all!

I'm so sorry sweetie, big  and if I ever get that pin in my hands, it will be yours. I'm feeling so sorry for all the things you're going through at the moment, you don't deserve this at all, you're such a sweetheart.

I think it is very wrong and rude of them, You did a kind thing holding a pin like that, I actually have two people holding pins/items for me till friday and I felt I was asking a lot of them and would not hurt them by backing out especially since I am the one who asked the favor, It is very disrespectful, even if the person feels the two of you have "parted ways" that doesn't change the fact that you have a pending trade, in which this person asked you to hold your pin for them. I would be just as angry as you probably are but all I can say is brush it off, and move on, just don't trade with said person anymore and definatley don't take requests from them. If it does happen again just remind them of what they did in the past and you thank them for the offer but you politley decline.
