Pin I am Selling on eBay
If you put the suspected shill bidder on your blocked buyer list, they won't be able to bid anymore or retract thier bids. Then if the high bidder doesn't pay, you can report them to E-bay as a non paying bidder. That's what I would do if someone was messing with my auction.

Works the other way round too. Bidder 1 bids an unrealistic high price. Bidder 2 drives the price up so no one will bid. Buyer 2 withdraws last minute, means buyer 1 wins with a low bid. Perfectly in favor of the buyer and the seller is screwed.

It's both called shill bidding in German, maybe there's another expression for it in the US.

Ebay does not let you withdraw your bid if there is less than 12 or 24 hrs left to the end of auctions. They got smart about this.

Well then someone better tells Ebay Germany, because it still works that way here.

They let you withdraw bids, but the seller can't end the auction early anymore if it's less than 12 hours.

this has happened to me. 2 bidders trying to outbid eachother. wait it out thats all you can do. they have to pay or they get a non paying bidder strike. you can block people with non paying bidder strikes from bidding on your auctions in the future. crazy bidding happens and not all buyers realize there may be more than 1 of the same pin out there at a lower price. i would leavel it as it let it play out and go from there. you didnt set the price they did!

Very curious, but I have seen some crazy stuff happen on eBay. I watched one of the Aristocats Disney Dreams pins last month and I don't think it went for $30. A couple days ago one sold for $111! So, who knows. Hopefully you are just going to make some really good pin money!

It looks like the person who has high bid placed his/her bid on the 17th and 2 other bidders are driving the price up. the high bidder must really want that pin! its hard to believe that 3 diff bidders would bid it up this high and then back out of it. why go thru all that trouble?

This is such a freaking hassle....I did contact the eBay admin and I am still waiting to hear back. This is so rude that these people would even do this if their not serious about the bids....this is why I hate eBay sometimes....There's about one hour left on the auction and we will see.....I will keep you posted. Thank you everyone for your response on this thread by the way. I agree with most of you that I am feeling like I am being screwed by these people on eBay.... horrible!!

Good luck with your auction! My guess is that someone really wants the pin for whatever reason, is somehow confused as to what they are bidding on or is screwing with you and doesn't intend to pay. Until its over you can't really tell what's up.

And I have a random question I've always been interested in as a seller. Say someone bids up your item. Are they obligated to pay, or does ebay let them off the hook. I've had a few second-chance offers before, and found it interesting that someone outbid me but didnt pay?! I know I've had to retract best offers before, but I did it within an hour of making it. But I've also read that its like a contract and once you bid on an item you are obligated to pay. Anyone?

The non-payer gets a strike against them but depending on how often they do it, it doesn't matter and the seller can't leave negative feedback if they report it as non-paying. I sold a triplet stroller and the first winner did that to me. I marked it as non-paying to get the fees reversed and when I went to leave feedback the system told me that since no transaction had taken place I couldn't leave feedback. I guess depending on what the fees are you could eat them to leave negative but it was an expensive item so I didn't test it.

So the auction ended and it sold for $308.. Let us know what happens..

I recently 'won' an item on the bay for $110 (an amazing price for an amazing pin set) and the seller sent me a message telling me that his car got broken into and the package was stolen.. hmmm..

Keep us updated. Maybe the person thought he was putting in $30.80 as his max and somehow forgot the decimal point.

Can anyone explain to me what shill bidding is? And I have a random question I've always been interested in as a seller. Say someone bids up your item. When you are given a second chance offer it does not mean someone didn't pay. If I have two of the same pin I list one, the first one sells to the highest bidder, then I am given an option for second-chance, which would be the next highest bidder for the other pin that I still have. Retracting bids require seller approval and a legitimate reason, otherwise if you are reported as a non-payer ebay will suspend all account activity.

happens all the time when they dont get the price they want -- if that's hte case they should just start paying to set a reserve price :P

I recently won a wonderful big lot. After the auction ended, the seller e-mailed me saying "I have seller's remorse and I decided not to sell. Please do not send any payment." I was shocked and sad, but what to do? If a buyer does not pay, there are non-paying bidder alerts/warnings. There should be something for "non-selling" sellers too.

If you want the lot, I would pay. After all, by posting them for sale they set themselves into a contract. I wouldn't make it easy for them to get out of it!

were is the update....we all want to know....i hope u get paid...than u can go pin shopping

And then he would not ship and then I would have to file with Paypal, etc etc. Why invite trouble & heartache?

I left negative fb though but felt awful about it later.

There is. You can report them as a non preforming seller. If they get too many they can be suspended. If they put something up for sale they are required to sell it if it ends with a buyer, the same as bidders are required to pay or face getting a non paying bidder strike.

This does not seem good . I would email the high bidder and ask what his intentions are once he wins . Good Luck Marcia ! I've never seen this happen before . Your pin is bringing more than the princess designer pins . Hope it works out for you !

Your seller should have used the excuse that my seller used: Package was in car, car was broken into, package stolen!! If your seller has only sold 10's of items, then it might be understandable, but if they have sold more than 100 items than this is pretty pathetic!!
