I've waited and bought and awesome bag from 2004. I can tell the difference for sure. Decided to do foam board in the inserts and it's so awesome. :) Thank you to everyone who gave tips and tricks. They really did help. I'm a happy pin trader. :)

Thanks princes and princes.

Have a magical day,

-Jonathan

You know, I was JUST about to ask about this! I need a place to put our pins and were thinking of a pin bag. Does anyone add additional materials inside (like backerboards or plastics) to keep the pins safe/steady?

I personally do not like the new pin bags, the sheets do not even fill up the whole bag. Its like they put a small sheet in a large bag :dunno: and I noticed that when you take out the pin you can see the hole and the indent where the pin was. It sucks that the old bags cost sooooo much though. For how many pins depends on the size of the pin but the old bag, unless they start to change the size of the new ones, will hold a lot more pins.

For that very reason I might have to buy one of the new ones. :[

I dislike the current bags too. The old bags were good. These new ones stink.

They stink big time. The stench is unbearable.

I don't know how many they'll hold because I'm no good at estimating that kind of thing, but I bought an old pin bag from a DPF member and I love it. It's this one:

Pin 54764: Pirates of the Caribbean Messenger Pin Trading Bag

It has four big fabric pages that I've put coroplast inside of, and a mesh pouch in the back, and I haven't filled it up yet. It's all cloth but seems really sturdy.

Anyway, I guess that means count me as another recommendation for the old pin bags!

I have the blue pin bag that is currently at DLR. It's holding up really well. It can hold 184 pins. The reason why I know this is I just counted how many I have in my bag and I have no more room. :)

I bought the one thats at WDW right now... it's blue and has so many characters on it!
I don't really like it that much... you can really see the holes left behind pins from before, and it's not that easy to put pins in and out of it... I don't know what the old ones were like, but I don't like this one all too much!

Sorry to be a bother, but what is coroplast?

Oh sorry-- it's corrugated plastic. Made like cardboard, but with plastic instead of paper. Plastic yard signs, the kind you can get at Home Depot type stores and stick into the grass on wires, are usually made of it, but you can also get it at craft stores.

It grips the pins really nicely; I make all my display boards out of it.

Oooh! I know what you mean! OK, thanks! I'll have to try that!

Also, are there any advantages to putting pins in those 9 pocket sleeves in binders? Or are the bags a better idea?

I think there are probably advantages and disadvantages to both, and it depends what you like best!

I've never used binders with the clear plastic pocket pages, but I've seen people who do. You can get more pages in, and add pages, which you can't do with bags. It's probably harder for anyone looking at them to steal pins out of the pockets than out of a pin bag. Also I've seen people put stickers on the pockets to indicate the LE number, which is useful when trading in person.

On the other hand, I like that my messenger bag has a shoulder strap for carrying. I also feel like pins might get squished in the binders, although a lot of long-time traders use them and I've never heard anyone say that their pins have gotten bent. Also you can zip the bags closed.

Probably there's a lot of other pros/cons to each that I'm forgetting. :)

Also the year of the bags have a lot to do with that. The older ones hold more, but are an arm and a leg now. =-=

Man, I'd better decided which way to package them and do it! I'd just rather not take off all of the pins from the backer cards to put them into the books...

seems like the inserts are a bigger deal than the bags themselves. couldn't you just take the insert things and carry them with you in whatever bag you wanted? i mean, the inserts are where you actually put the pins, right?

Ooo, the plastic cover over the holder is nice ^^ makes it a lot harder for people to steal em, right?

:p Personally, I've always loved my old pin book. It's not as practical as a pin bag through, so I've ended up storing my scrappers in there!

@_@ Before anyone jumps on me for owning scrappers, that just happens to be what I do with scrappers. I only trade for pins that I like off cast lanyards, so if they turn out to be scrappers, they just go in my scrapper book. If not, they go into my proper collection or my traders.

I also FAR PREFER the OLDER pin bags with the velour instead of that nasty neoprene :(
In fact, I also think the new bags stink in more ways than one :(
guess I will also be looking on the "bay" for older bags- even used!

< rearranged my 'bag' pins tonight and still say if they re-released the pin bag I bought from Disney shopping in '03-'04 exactly the same I'd buy 10 of them without blinking

It is by far the best pin bag ever designed (and the fact its personalized adds to it) inside the fabric sheets is flexible plastic sheeting which holds the pins well (you can push the pin in and it pops in secure enough till you get the back on, it also has 5 large pages (wheras my newer ('06/'07) books have 4 and have this weird fabric stuff inside the outer pages) and holds more pins than it umm prob should (did pull part of a seem out a few years ago when it had 500+ pins now it holds about 350 and not packed tight)

I bought one of the 'nightmare jack' bags for dirt cheap and its annoyingly small- One stuffed to the gills page in it is 3/4 loose filled page of an older ('06 DLR) book..

I have that leather bag mentioned above as my traders bag and besides having 2 of the 3 zippers blown out has been a great and sturdy bag- Shouldve bought more than 1 when they were at the cast pin sale for 15 each oh 6-7 years ago..

At one trading night they were showcasing the new pink minnie medium bag-I asked if she's ever put pins in there. When I got a blank stare I said grab 100 pins and see if you can get them in the book within an hour without bloody fingers and a few choice curse words cause I bet you couldn't... She didnt say much...
