I have been pin Trading for over 15 years and the rudeness that comes from some Traders just amazes me to no end. I offer a Pin from 2002, an Event Only pin, LE 2500 for a pin from an 2016 Annual Passholder set, OE. Price for both pins is about the same.

Matches come from both our Wants/Traders inventory.


Response to my TA is “Are you kidding, this just makes me sickâ€. WHAT…. I think!!


I must remind myself that this is a HOBBY, and some people just don’t get it. No reason to respond like this, if you don’t want to Trade just say â€No thanks†and let it go.
 
Agreed! Most of the time I would just like a reply! As someone still unsure of pin value in trades, I know I make errors, but I don't learn unless people help me, and being rude, is not helpful! I know you know your stuff though so that's not an issue for you but kindness and decency should rule the day everyday!

Hey. What about the trades that are way off. I got a request yesterday for a LE DSF Cheshire Cat with mad hatter. The offer was one green flag HM from 2010. I sent a reply that said the value of my pin was around 75-100 bucks and I would need a pin or many pins that at least come close to that value. Thank you KT

i started to say the green flag was worth $2 at most and has known scrapers. But I thought that was not nice.
But I do wonder. Did they really think I would make such a lopsided trade. I hope they are new and know no better. Other wise it feels a little sharky to me.

Wow, that was rude! no need for that, a simple "no thanks" is all thats needed.

I get lots of TR for LE's for HM's, I think its a combo of new people, and sometimes when you are doing blind searches for a pin & finding matches, sometimes odd things get sent out. (and I'm guilty of the same, though not intentionally)

When I have time to go through TR, if its something I'm not interested in, I'll try & take a look at our actual matches and propose other trades- I've actually made more trades that way than sending out my own requests.
 
I've had a really rude reply like that too, I wonder if it was the same trader.
I genuinely didn't know the value of their pin so made a mistake with my offer, but a "no thanks" will suffice....
 
No excuse to be so rude, indeed! I can understand new traders proposing trades that are off value (I am so guilty of doing the same thing when I first started out!), but the least thing you can do is stay friendly when declining a trade.

I've no idea on values, although Tiggermickey has recently given me a little guide to guesstimate a reasonable trade offer, so I'm almost worried to make offers on pinpics now.

KT, "Did they really think I would make such a lopsided trade." That worries me more than anything. I'm doing my best to work out values, but I'd be worried to get that sort of reaction from someone and be tarred with the brush of unfair trader.
 

Snap, this puts me off a lot of trades.. I don't want to offend the other person or make myself look like an idiot
 
i have to admit that I often get that gut response to many trade offers I receive (my DA/Ds.com 100s for a brand new higher LE pin that is easily purchased on eBay), but I usually say those things out loud to the computer instead of responding and saying them directly to the actual person...
 
I totally relate, I get multiple daily requests for very $$ pins for either hidden Mickeys or rack pins or even just a recent release LE. I used to try to respond to them all, but Ive found I just can't. I respond to ANYTHING close, or as many as I have energy for starting with the ones that are the closest to actual matches.
 
I'm glad this was brought up as I had a recent bad experience. Just two weeks ago I was sent out a request using pinpics trade assist where you can pick multiple matches at once. Well, I wasn't paying that close attention and one of the requests was to trade my mystery pin for a LE. I received a very nasty message back saying I must be new to pin trading and how dare I waste the persons time, etc. I was going to reply back "oops, not my intention" but when I tried to reply, I got a message saying "recipient does not exist ". So I searched the member, selected Send Message but I got the same "recipient does not exist ". I contacted a mod to let them know since it seems unfair a person can rant on people and then block responses. Anyhoo, I just checked pinpics and the person can receive messages now.

Figment919, that response was uncalled for. So sorry.

When I started with Pinpics, I received a few of those type of responses (although maybe never as bad as yours above). I do still periodically receive long winded PM lectures/rants about pin value (always slanted in favor of the sender). A very subjective topic to say the least, and anyway and none of us need that lecture. I don't respond.

I now am trying to track my good and bad experiences and have notes on those who are more aggressive and uneven with their idea of pin value. Ultimately, I try not to trade with those traders anymore. Not worth the time!
 
In the spirit of trying to keep this "positive" in nature I have a suggestion. When you get a lopsided TA try to use the Trader comparison program in PinPics and see if you can work something out with the other Trader. I know that this is more leg work for some but in the spirit of TRADING you may come up with a multi-pin trade that is good for both of you. If not, try to explain why not in the spirit of trying to maybe teach some folks about the ropes of the hobby and why you turn down the Trade - BUT do it in a civil manner.

I try to do this, and it does take time, and sometime there is nothing to offer, but IMHO its worth it.
 
I've gotten the same response before from a pinpics trade even though I thought my side was more than fair..I told them that a simple 'no thanks' would've been cool.
I've always seen something like this happen at the trading tables before. This girl wanted to trade for a pin this woman had and the woman asked for a pin of the same LE size and the girl was like "OH no, my pin is worth way more than yours. So..no" It was so rude :\ Not everyone does eBay values and the tone she had when she explained it was unnecessary in my opinion
 
I always try to make a bigger trade to try to even off the trade if it is lopsided, or keep the postage per pin down. I'm usually rude in person because there is no filter from my brain to my mouth. Maybe it's because I yell it at the computer then type politely..lol.. I've put out a lot of requests and hardly ever get a response and they are fair trades and their listed pins are recent. I guess some people just don't want to trade, or think that they have that gold filled pin.

I was a newbie trader once. It helps to remember that when I get lopsided requests.
People can be jerks sometimes. It helps to remember that when someone acts like it. Try not to take it personally.

I've had some great experiences with PinPics trades when I do trade. Recently, though, life has gotten in the way and I haven't been able to respond to any requests, reasonable or not. People probably think I'm a snob because I didn't respond. By the time I get around to responding to requests it's usually a week out and I assume they have traded with someone else and don't respond. I need to do better at keeping on top of my trade requests...

Side question - I know the old references system has been wonky/gone for awhile, (aside from DPF's feedback) is there currently a reliable way to track references for traders?

How does this Trader comparison/ assist thing work? Is that the thing where can work out a 3 way trade or something? I've seen it mentioned on PinPics but couldn't figure out how to do it?
 
Sorry if it sounded like I was being harsh. I thought it good to give a price range for the pin in question. I also did not say the pin the offered sucked or was cheap. I just pointed out that to be a fair trade, I would need something closer in value. We all are new at some point. I was not trying to be mean. If I knew it was a shark, I would have been more blunt. But it could have been a mistake or a newbie. So I try to give a little info to the trade request.

side note and I could be wrong, but. I do not think many people will trade LE pins for older HM pins that are known to have fakes of.

I've never had a person be rude to me directly on PinPics thankfully but I do find it really hard to make trades because people often don't reply. I try to respond to all reasonable requests particularly if people send a message alongside them but I've sent multiple requests to the same people with no response. I have received some very lopsided requests myself but it is very hard sometimes to know if they are genuine newbies as sometimes their traders consist of pretty high end pins too. I have made one particularly wonderful trade on PinPics though so am really grateful in that respect for the service it provides!
 
I usually just have a template message I copy and paste when I'm not interested in a trade, that goes along the lines of:

"Hello _______,Thank you for contacting me. However I am not interested in trading at this time. I hope that you're able to find what you're looking for in the future!
Purplemandms"

Even if it is a very lopsided, and clearly uneven trade. If someone does give me a "bad offer" (i.e. HM with lots of scrappers for a nice LE), I'll generally check their traders and see if there's anything else I'm interested, and then make a counter-offer. If they accept, great! Everyone's happy. But if they send a rude reply back or continue offering pins that I don't think are suitable for the trade (when I know that they have other traders), then I just close the conversation and mark that person's username on a list. I've found it's the best way to avoid being scammed. I'm sorry this experienced happened to you!
