Pinpics really work???

..this is my opinion as well. Take a minute and see if it is worth pursuing. I try to trade more than 1 pin if we can work something out. If not...I explain. .why not usually.

+1000000 I do the same, if I get offers for say a hidden mickey for say.....my Rapunzel party doll, I would look through their traders see if they have anything that interests me and is fair, if not I just tell them rither no thank you, or I trade HM's for HM's and tell them I looked through thier traders and found such and such pins and most times a trade happens or I just don't hear back and I'll get a trade request from them again, offering the same stuff again at which I will tell them again about my HM for HM rule. but atley it's ben out of control! I get tons of very lopsided trade requests, mabey lots of new traders are using Pinpics and are begginers and havent got the hang of it yet, mabey??

Perhaps a secondary account of just the low-end traders/wants might prove useful.

Don't get insulted at low-end trades, sometimes it's the only "match" that lines up. It is difficult to send specific trades to specific people (unless you have your email address public but even then it's hard because there is no option on Pinpics that says to "show all traders who have this pin" in order to get a better understanding of what that specific person wants or has in their collection).

Again, it is just to open a dialogue!

The Whole Encapsulating a pin thing, it was really neat when I saw the pins in the little plastic sealed case and the grade on a label on top of the clear case, and I was mesmorized, that is soooo cool, the pin is safe from harm, has been graded but then I stopped and realized, what do I do with it now? I can't put it on my lanyard to share my prize pin with all! and we all know thats the whole point of trading to get the pins that make us happy, pins we get so excited about we want to share with everyone our excitement of aquiring our grails, thats the best part of trading. I decorate my Wyllieam Lanyard with pins that I worked so hard to aquire, and wear it proudly and go to say.... the DL pin trading tables and there I see a young lady also wearing an Amy/Wyllieam Lanyard too and it's full of her prize pins and I see her looking over at mine so I go over to her and were both oooooooo-ing and ahhhhhhhh-ing over each others pins, and "oh my" "I want that one" and "how did you get that one" and then we introduce each other and then were friends and adding each other on FB! but now your pin is in a block, and you can't wear it, it's not light anymore and it's bulky and I don't want to lug it with me, it just its on a shelf in my house, for me the fun is not there, pins are meant to be worn and shared! thats how I got over being shy, pins forcing myself to open up and talk to others, now I don't need to force myself, I want to walk up and talk and hug! I love it! and pin values jump all over the place they're up they're down, I have pins from years ago that were very saught after and were selling for big $$$ and now they mabey can fetch 25.00 mabey, so that pin in a block is also now worth 25.00 or mabey less because it's in a block and I want to wear it and how can I if it's in a block?? Break the block open I guess. So I don't know? It's a good idea a neat one, I was actually thinking of doing it to one of my pins, just to try it, but decided I want to wear my pins! even my most valuable pin I want to wear and share, I would not have met anyone if all my pins were locked away and put on a shelf in my house, plus I would'nt have as many pins because now they would take up lots of space. It was a good idea though for those who want to protect thier investments, but again pin values are changing all the time.

I like the pin pics trading method. since being a newbie on here its difficult to trade plus its a great way to showcase a collection. I am trying to do my first trade ever on pin pics right now in fact. I get tons of lopsided trades as well but oh well. all you have to do is just not except and wait for a good one like i am now!

The topic of grading and encapsulating a pin needs it own topic. I am all for it, and there are myriad reasons for it to be incorporated into our hobby. At some point in the near future I might just broach the subject again. But not here on this thread.

As to pinpics: lopsided trade requests happen all the time. do not take it personal, in fact, think of it as a chance to look at someones traders to see if there is anything you might actually trade with them for the pin they like. Consider them conversation starters?

No matter what the rumors may be, pinpics is not loosing people due to the changes they plan to make. It seems busier than ever and i get tonns of requests regularly. I am sure that its membership is growing, just like ours is, and just like the trade community is growing. It is the most accurate and largest database of Disney pins in existence. I highly doubt any of the "old time" traders truly stopped using it if they still trade today.

Do not be discouraged by some lopsided TR's, do not be discouraged by some failed trades. As docfish2u said: Anything worthwhile needs effort. Working through the TR's to find the right one takes a bit of effort.

Thank you!!!

Alot of people just use the Trade Assistant on a loose basis, shotgunning offers without tailoring things down to make first contact with people they might be able to trade with. Some people hate that, some people understand it and don't mind. I'd personally consider any e-mails you get through the Trade Assistant to be a starting point, and an icebreaker toward a dialogue, moreso than a firm offer. The broader your accepted use of the TA, the more it can do for you in the long run.

I've done a ton of trades through Pinpics with people I would have never been able to meet otherwise. I've also annoyed the living daylights out of a couple people with repeated shotgun offers who weren't interested in anything but my very low-end stuff, for whom my high-end stuff had no appeal just because we collected different things. I've been on both sides of that in return as well, but I try not to let a couple random emails here and there ruin my life or anything. lol

I would say 85% of my trades go through pin pics. However, I would say I manage a successful trade through pin pics 1-2 times per week, and I get about 25-30 offers per week, so it's a fairly low amount... I think I've traded through DPF only a couple times (not considering auctions a trade).

I also agree with most of the people here. I send out trade offers as an initiation to dialogue. It's rare the occasion (although funny enough it happened last Sunday) where you send out a trade offer, and the person replies with a 3 for 3 offer, and you complete a trade within 15 minutes of contact... But when dialogue starts to happen, you can gauge what the person is looking for, and build a foundation to what could potentially become a trade. Surely, it takes some time and patience to get through some of the requests, but it's part of trading!!

I trade via PinPics as I do get requests in my inbox there versus here. I've had no luck trading on the forum.

Same here. I've done all of my trades to date using only PinPics. I try to make my offers reasonable- for example, I was trying to get both PODM sets from 2011 and 2012, so I would offer a PODM for another PODM to try and make it a fair trade. Currently I'm trying to do trades to get the complete 2013 Piece of Disneyland History set. I'm only missing Little Mermaid right now...every offer I've sent out has been denied by everyone even though I've offered them another pin from the set of equal value! So I'm hoping my luck gets better. I'll need a lot of help towards the end of the year!
