Attempting the DLR Sci- Fi Event Alice 55-pin Auction Lot CO-OP:

This is the event Auction Lots (Alice is #8):
http://eventservices.disney.go.com/files/Sci-Fi Academy - Auction Catalog.pdf

Here are the rules that we have thought a lot (and I mean a lot) about:

1)Money must be sent to me ahead of time, through check, cashiers check or money order. (Due to PayPal restrictions we need to do it this way)

2) The prices of these pins will be the MAX COST, which we'll figure out how much you are willing to pay in the PM

3) If it goes higher than the MAX COST of all the pins, I will stop bidding. We will not go higher than the MAX COST (you will get a full refund at this point).

5) If the cost goes under the allotted amount everyone pays the
percentage of what they would have paid for the MAX COST. (Ex. Say the lot for goes for $2000, but we thought it would go for $3000. You said you would pay $300 (10% of the total cost) for some pins, but since the lot went for $2,000 you would only pay $200 for your pins because you only pay 10% of the total cost.

6) Everything needs to be claimed if we are to do this – Then all money must be sent in. We will not ask for money until everything is claimed.

7) All pins will go out a week or two after the event is over so we can
figure everything out (who gets refunded what, who gets what, addresses, shipping, etc.).

8) Shipping costs will be deducted from the refund or sent to me through
PayPal if we reach the exact MAX COST.

9) First come, first serve basis on all of the pins. Once it has been spoken for then the pin will not be available unless the person who claimed it says they do not want it anymore.

10) We can keep everyone updated by text if they want real time updates during the silent auction (in your PM you can give me you numbers and I can tell you how much it is going for throughout the event).

11) Once someone PMs me with a confirmation then I will write that pins their pins are on hold, but I will not write who is buying which items on this thread. I will say they are on hold.

12) All prices will be figured out though PMs. No prices will be listed.

13) I will be going by the time a PM comes into my inbox. In the PM confirm you want in and what pins you want. I will then go to the next PM and accommodate the next person based on what pins are available. I will also be updating this thread, but posting in the thread does not mean you get pins. PM only!

I really really really hope you guys win! Then I can live my Alice AP/PP pin collections through you

A couple of suggestions/concerns:

1) You may want to keep your pricing and max bid under wraps. By listing it here you are letting all of your competitors here know exactly what it is going to take to beat you and you are advertising that they can just bid you up and then quit bidding once you are close to your max. Jerky thing to do, but there are people that will do it.

2) By presetting the individual prices you may be capping your potential max bid. For example, maybe the person that wants one of the pins on hold and would be willing to pay more for it than what you have listed. If they were in the co-op then your max bid could be higher and therefore you would have a better chance of winning.

Just some things to think about. I would suggest getting a group of interested parties together and then hashing out amongst yourselves what the max bid and proration across the items will be as well as who gets what. I'm just concerned that by advertising this you are guaranteeing that you will lose. 🙁

*Disclaimer* - I'm not participating in the co-op and not looking to get into it. I'm just offering up some suggestions that might help you win!!!

Thanks for advice Erica. I really do appreciate your info. We definitely thought about that too and have been talking since it came out how we would do this. I know there are people who would do that, but this is as far as we can go. If someone wants to jump over us and beat us then that's what will happen. It would suck, but I guess that would mean we get beat. On other hand though people who don't want to spend this much, will not bid because they know we will outbid them.

I think I am going to add another thing where people who really want to win can up their MAX COST to help everyone out in getting the pins. Thank you so much!!! 🙂

I wouldn't be so sure. I wouldn't be surprised at all if there are people who would bid you up with no intention of outbidding you just to waste your money. Kind of the "if I can't have it then you can't have it for cheap" mentality. By advertising you max bid you are telling them how far they can push you. Just sayin', if you keep it quiet then you improve your chances of getting it for cheaper than your max bid.

I can just see this incenting sellers to bid you out. They know there are people willing to pay the amounts you have listed so they'll figure there are at least some out there that would be willing to pay more. Especially when you consider there is a one of a kind Alice in there.

Hey Snazzybowtie, we will be there at the event and we will try to intimidate other bidders for you-we'll give them the evil stink eye. Good luck on your co-op auction.

I actually work at an auction and I didn't think of this earlier, but bidding people up is a common practice (and I believe is also illegal) 🙁 We have absentee bids which are held in confidentiality because all it takes is one spiteful person - and this happens without fail at every sale - to up the price of the item. A man was bidding on an electronic baby grand a few sales ago and told everyone he was going to go up to xxx amount...a stupid move considering my boyfriend was the consignor and if we wanted to we could have bid him up (we didn't obviously, but the opportunity is always there). Sometimes it's their own item, or other times they see someone they don't like bidding so they bid them up.

I hope that doesn't happen, but Erica does raise a valid point.

Alright you have convinced me. I think I'll go ahead and remove and we can figure this out secretly. But I want to keep this up here so people can join. 🙂 Thank you guys!

I just have a question. What is that pin on the far left in that box with the card suits on it? She seems to be falling and there is a grandfather clock underneath her.

I think it was for the wonderland event but they never produced it.
