Who would like to see if we could get a Q&A with the owners/admin team?

I think if we could submit questions to our mods here to see if they would answer would help alleviate some of the tension that is going on.

They could then have a thread (locked) that the answers could be posted in.

I have done both web design and databases and yes I know they can be very time consuming, but with most of their original database being built with help from members here, I don't think a hour of their time is too much to ask.

I really love this idea. It would hopefully give everyone an opportunity to clear the air in a constructive manner, and concerns all around can be addressed.

That is not a bad idea, if the owners/admin of PinPics would be willing to do that. I know in other genres like action figures, companies like Mattel and Hasbro offer a similar venue through fan sites, where questions are submitted via the Mods of the fan sites, and they are answered and questions that address proprietary information are not answered.

What type of questions would you be looking to ask?

This is one of those things that I might have seen the advantages of, but I question if the window of opportunity may have already closed. I feel that there is already this huge wall, and no trust on either side. I feel that Pinpics staff doesn't trust that our opinions and concerns are genuine, and all the noise is just because we're being egged on by people who wish Pinpics ill will. Or that we expect too much, or we're just haters. Meanwhile, I feel like users keep being told to "just wait" or "we don't understand" but we're never given the opportunity to understand because we're told so very little, or until it's too late. And so patience and loyalty got used up months ago.

For instance, the recent uproar over grading could have been mostly mitigated if users had first been given what we can find on other grading sites; everything is spelled out in detail. It would have been easier to weed out the people that are just looking for trouble, if people could have read for themselves why things get graded the way they do. Sure, there may be people who just want to cause trouble, but most people are legitimately confused and therefore concerned. But they are just lumped in with the troublemakers, and their concerns aren't really answered, because "we're still working on getting the grading details ready." It's backwards, so of course there is going to be friction. Expect that, own that, don't go blaming users because you failed to give them what all the other grading companies do. Pinpics always wants the benefit of the doubt, but no business website gets that (if you don't want to be a business website, don't charge for premium services, don't offer grading services, etc.)

I've started to see more of the "if you knew them" but the reality is most of us don't know them, and will never know them. We can only go by what they tell us and post on their websites/forums. We can't read their minds or intentions. And if it's incomplete, people's imaginations will go crazy. Incompleteness, in itself, gives the appearance of not really caring, or not really thinking about something in the first place, or not being prepared or yes, there being something to hide. If you don't want to give those impressions, then you have to do more than offer "just wait."

Also, many of the website issues could have been avoided if users were more involved in the process. They eliminated so many of the things that I personally used a lot, or things that don't scale well if you have a collection as large as mine, that even if the basics get sorted out, I'm not sure how useful this new interface is going to be for me. An extended beta process, and regular updates on what things would look like could have gone a long way to revealing differences between what users expect, and what the people in charge thought were unnecessarily. Then things could have taken as long as it needed, users would have seen there is progress, had time to become comfortable with the differences and felt valued, and it wouldn't be this crisis situation that it is. But because they weren't interested or didn't think user input was needed, how can I even start to believe that NOW it is? I feel like someone decided that "they know best," so that's how things will be, everyone else be damned. And that there aren't enough people involved with the technical know-how to have noticed things in the first place and to fix things now. And I feel like decorators tried to do the work of architects and engineers (and it worked as well as if a room decorator was responsible for making sure a building didn't fall down), and so they weren't able to give the programmers the right instructions.

So I think any Q&A would just result in both sides just talking past each other again. We might think it will help us feel better, but it will mostly just provide another example to illuminate the gap between where users are and where Pinpics ownership is.

A Q&A is a great idea and I hope that will help with the situations at hand. I do remember a blog being put out on the parameters of pin grading but for the life of me I can't find it at the moment. Also, there is a section on the new website that isn't live yet where I think the grading will be thoroughly explained for all to see <3 I am not 100% sure on all this but this is my belief

I would really like to see this happen.

There was another thread from a Pinpics person around here somewhere, and I wondered whether it would be appropriate to ask questions there. A dedicated Q&A thread would be a better idea.

As to what sorts of questions... how-tos, questions about the pin adding process now (why the delay, for instance, and what the moderating process is), questions about photo submission, these are just off the top of my head.

Also whether they would be open to user suggestions. I'm sure a lot of users have suggestions for making the site more efficient and user-friendly; I don't mean complaints, but constructive suggestions of actual practical details that they may not have thought of (because it's hard to think of everything). You can make suggestions via the site's contact link (I already made one) but it would be good to get an idea of how receptive they are to user-suggested changes.

Anything that would help. I have just come back from florida and am struggling to make this work there is not enough explanation of how it works. I didn't try to do it when I was in the usa s I didn't want to use my tablet and this is just awful at the moment and I am not technophobic!Jacqui

I have just stepped aside right now to re evaluate how important this is in my life. I have gotten SO frustrated with the lack of acknowledgment from pin pics and the trouble that this "upgrade" has caused. I cannot move forward in trading because I cannot see anyone elses wants/have and matches. If anything this has really opened a door to someone who has time/energy/resources and knowledge to create another platform for the trading community. I am pretty underwhelmed by the lack of pin pics involvement with "us" as a community since we are "so important" and even worthy of being asked for reimbursement for their services of being a resource to the trading community. It's like they were bought out by the government of the united states. Sad. So, I am not saying that i am leaving, but I am saying that this has helped me re-prioritize my life...so, thank you Pin Pics to give me the push I needed on something that I should have been able to see myself, but couldn't.

I'm just confused as to why the old site was so easy to navigate and the new site is so complicated. I would think "new and improved" would be easier. Plus the fact that I'm so backwards on a computer, it's easier for me to pop onto the old site to accomplish anything. I did get prompt replies when I emailed them with questions, but being technologically challenged, the answers didn't help me. "Change your settings" means nothing to me because I didn't know which settings to change. I just want to trade with people :wavey:

Thats all I want to do is trade, and go to trading events, meet people and have fun, I don't need all these "extras". It is making the hobby to serious, and complicated, and taking the fun out of it. why can't it just go back to being fun, grading pins, why is this so necessary, I just wanna have fun.

May I also add, pins are not Silver, gold, or platinum, diamonds, or any stone for that matter, and pins are not money. Pins are supposed to be fun to collect not be graded ad price inflated. The fun is being sucked out of my favorite hobby. Not tring to be mean or spiteful, I just don't like it.

Good idea Rasputin....but im kinda wondering (as hopemax) what they will answer. I DO know ALL the owners of pinpics and feel like i am in a weird place in my head because i truly have felt them all to be cool and nice and upfront people and the recent actions of suspending accounts of long time wonderful traders, some of which contributed to the data base for years, uncharacteristic and kinds cruel.

As i stated in many threads I CANT WORK THIS NEW SITE. wHEN I ORIGINALLY STUMBLED ONTO PINPICS YEARS AGO i found my way around in about 2 days. Well I am on day 7 and cant find a pin. Searches deleted, pins not listed in numerical order, cant view alot at a time, to send a trade request is a 3 step annoying process. Now can this all be me? It could.

I think the questions i would ask them would probably insult them and therefor i risk vindictive repercussions as others here have. I also just wanna trade and have fun but having pins being graded and values put on them leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It has taken pin trading- which is what Disney had in mind- and encourages pin SELLING which is making trading impossible since people think there !2.95 DSF pin should be valued and trade like a $200 pin. SAD SAD SAD
