So I tried to do a search for WDI recycling bin pins on the new pinpics today. There were 2486 hits on that search. Of the first 50 pins on the first page of pins listed there was a grand total of 1 actual recycling bin. Wow, they have been open almost a year and the search function doesn't work any better then that? I guess they should use DPP's search function, it was tons better then that.

I think pinpics was originally going to shut down their old site this summer but I don't see it happening. What's weird is if someone else runs the exact same search on a different computer they will get different results!

Beyond frustrating!! I don't even bother. I only use the old pp and of course now that is falling out of date since they aren't really adding to it any more. I still use it for searches for old pins. I either get the pin exactly or darn close. New pp, what a joke.

I found that if you search with specific words or titles you have to add "+" in front of it. So say you're searching a pin of Rapunzel in a hot air balloon, you can type "+rapunzel +balloon". The search engine of PinPics is messed up. Maybe you can try "+wdi +recycling".

Same goes for when you want to search a pin of Rapunzel without Flynn "+rapunzel -flynn".

The PinPics search engine changed to an OR format when it used to be an AND format.

In an AND search, if you searched for WDI recycling, the engine would implicitly add an AND between the words and search only for pins that contained the words "WDI" AND "recycling".

In an OR search, the engine instead adds an OR between the words, so the resulting search would be "WDI" OR "recycling". So even if the listing only contains one of the terms, it will still show up in searches.

OR searches are usually not an issue; despite the fact that AND searches sound more sensible, most search functions online are OR searches. This is because normally the engine is supposed to sort results that contain both terms to the top of the results list. The PinPics search doesn't seem to be doing this, or at least not doing it right. Hopefully this is something they're working on.

As OlafOlaf said, you can force the engine to do an AND search, by making all the terms you're looking for important with a "+" symbol in front of them. A search for +WDI +recycling does a search for WDI AND recycling and brings up the expected results. Annoying to have to do each time, but at least there's a way to get it to work the way you want.

I literally want to gouge out my eyes whenever I use the new pinpics. Wish they would just accept the fact that the new site is terrible and stick with the old.

Also, when you search on the new pinpics, if you don't enter anything in the little pulldown box, it defaults to searching "what's new". If you pull down and choose "gallery" instead, it searches by actual relevance.

If you forget this, and enter your search and just hit the "enter" key (as I do a lot), then in the search results you will see a "Sort by:" and a pulldown box, which will say "newest". which will list the very newest ones even if they just BARELY match your search. If you pull that down and choose "relevance" instead, you get the more relevant results up front.

Something better will be around soon...

Can't wait to see what it looks like!!!

Old PinPics until it dies or something better comes along.

Looking for newer pins that are not on the old pinpics is not possible now.

I see 20...which one are you looking for?

It is olive green and has a picture that looks like an ink well. It says please keep our town clean.

Thanx pinpics for making life harder. Like any of us need extra stuff to do.

It's being worked on! Just taking time to get most of the features everyone wants.

So excited!!!

Way to go pinpics. Take something easy and make it more difficult. Just like the whole site. No wonder people want something new that resembles something old.

I literally want to gouge out my eyes whenever I use the new pinpics. Wish they would just accept the fact that the new site is terrible and stick with the old.

That would be to tough for their ego's. They seem to think they know what we all want. Boy are they ever wrong!!!

There is also www.pintradingdb.com. A bunch of people from here are adding as many pins as possible.

Even though I like the new PinPics quite a bit (I know I am in the glaring minority, but I think it is very visually pleasing and easy to navigate compared to the old one which I find dated looked and very confusing. Some of the functionality could be improved but from what I understand they are working on it with their programmer). Anyway, yes Pin Trading DB is a really great site! I've been uploading lots of pins myself and see that the tally keeps growing! I like this pin database quite a bit and since the creator is a member here, our suggestions get implemented with lighting speed! It's been awesome.

I'm sure as a group we can rally together to provide the descriptions and pics......make that new pics.
