Ugh I'm at DLR and did my 1st in person trade with a trader. I was so excited he had 3 pins I really wanted! I traded him the 3 for 2 of my DSF pins and was really excited! Then I realized the 3 I got are fake. I went back but of course he wasn't there anymore. I am so upset and feel like such an idiot.

Anyone have anything to say to make me feel better?
 
Trust me, it has happened to all of us! Keep your head up and just know your not alone!!!!

Happened to me too. I thought I was getting a full set of soda bottle HM pins and since it was a little dark I couldn't see they were fake. I gave up quite a few nicer rack pins for them too. I was so bummed. But I picked myself up and I learned from my experience. Now I'm a smarter trader because of it.

Thanks guys! Your posts (and the fact that my boyfriend got me the Tuxedo Figment 3D Vinylmation, and traded one of his pins to get me the 4th of July Wall-e and Eve pin) have really started cheering me up! I'm glad I'm not the only person who this has happened to. I think it really hit hard because I had decided not to trade with CMs because I was sick of getting a ton of fakes, and this was my 1st in person trade with a trader. =\
 
One thing I learned the hard way is that the edges of scrappers can be rough. In fact, I have almost cut myself on the little metal burrs on the fakes. YEOW!! It doesn't take any time at all to run your finger around the edge of a pin to check, and you don't need to see real good either! Hope this helps.

Sorry to hear this. I know it's not much of a consolation, but it's happened to us, too many times.

We've definitely taken a break from pin trading, mainly because of the sharks.
 
Sorry to hear about your predicament. it has somewhat happened to me before, except at WDW.
I had recently gotten a full set of tinkerbell pins (supposedly a rare set) that I did not want and really wanted to trade for it. This little girl came up to me and asked if I wanted to trade the whole set. I said sure, let me see what you have. She had great pins or so I thought.
I traded the entire set for two pins that she said were really rare. Her father seemed really pleased.

Came home and boom, they were not that rare and one of them was fake.

The only thing we can do here is educate ourselves when trading and to just have fun with it.
 
Sorry to hear that..I accidenty sent a "Scrapper"by mistake in a PIF..did not realize it was one and I had bought it off DPF!so we have all been there!
 
I've gotten so many scrapper and counterfeit pins that I'm considering putting together a little show book that people can look through and maybe educate themselves on what a scrapper or a counterfeit pin would look like.

Most of the regulars, at the barrels, are good people and will remove suspect pins from their books if you point them out in a polite manner. There's so many fake pins floating around that it's nearly impossible for one trader to be familiar with all of them.

Sorry to hear about your experience with fake pins, but it's almost part of the overall initiation process. If you are going to be trading, it's inevitable that you will end up with a fair share of fake pins, unfortunately. Just know that there isn't a single, active, trader that has not gotten a fake pin at some point.
 

Wow, when there's a little kid with a parent, sometimes that's bad news too....like they are trying to take advantage...

Well all the warning signs were actually on Pin Pics which made me feel even more stupid. They were the Safari, Day Dream, and Musketeer Figment. Basically the warning signs are tongue and tummy same color and boarder around the mickey head waffle pattern. When I 1st looked them over I didn't see the boarder on the back and I didn't know about the tummy tongue thing. I guess it was my fault for trusting the guy and not checking pin pics 1st =\

And it really sucks because I really wanted those pins and was soooo excited that I had found them...
