Okay…I have used Pinpics for 12 years now. And, it just occurred to me to try a search I have never tried before. So, I typed in SCRAPPER.

OMG!!!

You get 1413 pins…which seems very low (in my humble estimate).

However, that being said….there is a TON of good stuff with scrapper warnings. Wow…there really needs to be some editing out there.

Thoughts?

It seems the norm today that if there is a flaw in a pin it is automatically a "scrapper". Then someone creates a "scrapper warning" and the hysteria begins. Pins have flaws. They have scratches, dips, they don't all have 2 nips in the back! This doesn't mean they are "scrappers".

:nono:

Back in late 2010 I did a similar search for both "scrapper" and "unauthorized" and came up with 1,599 according to what I posted back then (post 13).

http://disneypinforum.com/showthrea...!!!!!&highlight=scrapper+unauthorized+warning

I just did it again and came up with the 1,413 for "scrapper" and another 1,082 for "unauthorized" for a total of 2,495 so, no surprise, the numbers are going up.

I think the number just seems low because there are soooooooo many copies of the scrappers. When you think about it, the 2,000 (or whatever the real number is) represents the designs that have actually been scrapped, which to me, seems like a lot of designs. Then multiply that by the number of copies they made and.....there's your millions of scrapper pins.

That being said, I would say with those numbers -at least a 1/4 of those with scrapper or unauthorized in the search, are completely bad info. AND, at the same time, someone at LANSAM / Pinpics has been editing and removing scrapper warnings on certain pins.

Some of the unauthorized pins listed are things like from the town of Marceline, or Balloon Festival pins -which were ALL authorized pins, and not a violation of copyright, and not made for Fantasy purposes -but listed as Un-tradeable because they were not made by Disney.

I would think a new category other than UNAUTHORIZED needs to be created. Something that alerts it is not a Disney pin, but not the same category of Fantasy or Counterfeit as the others.

I'm confused... you're contradicting yourself. Do you, or do you not want things to be edited?

Personally, I'd prefer for faulty scrapper warning to be removed, and like lever have stated above, someone sees a scratch on a pin and automatically assumes scrapper, and go post about it. Why should we keep postings that have no credible backing?

I had no idea you could search "scrappers" I'll have to go check that out. I get a lot of PinPic offers that involve the same LE Jessica, I'll have to go see if it is on list.

I don't know if this is necessarily a contradiction if they are leaving "scrapper warnings" that don't appear to be warranted but removing the warnings that DO appear to be warranted.

I'm NOT saying that that is what LANSAM/Pinpics is doing, I'm just saying that those two statements are not necessarily contradictory...

I dont think ANYBODY in the pin trading circuit should be able to post a scrapper warning. That is why we have people appointed to run pinpics. My thought is that if you believe a pin may be a scrapper (and quite a few people will probably come forth at the same time), a picture and resoning for the potential scrapper should be posed to the directors at pinpics and if it is deemed the pin is indeed being copied than that is who should list the scrapper warning. It would seem more uniform.

Thank you Unibear, you are correct, it was not meant to be a contradiction. I meant that I want Pinpics/Lansam to Stop removing the legit warnings....and fix those entries that had inaccurate info or just silly comments about variations that are clearly from the manufacturing process.

Unfortunately, I no longer believe Pinpics to be as reliable as it once was - as people (not just ME) have been banned from adding important information, while others like AJC/Adam -who work for Lansam, openly sell fake pins as Disney made (ie: the UP Mailbox).

What credibility can the site have when it removes warnings that were properly vetted in the first place by the original owner (Figgy/Britt); and now ceasing the bump to the "what's new" page when information has been altered?

I just need to apologize to Diane, she was telling the truth with Pin Pics . I came across a trader that has some pins that at one time said SCRAPPER ALERT: Here is one of them , take a look at the wording where Scrapper Alert use to be found,
http://pinpics.com/cgi-bin/pin.cgi?pin=61049&sid=9392.1344372872.v2 and here : http://pinpics.com/cgi-bin/pin.cgi?pin=28305&sid=9392.1344372872.v2
Just a couple of pins that I looked at before . The wording is now different and scrapper alert removed .
No drama just an apology from me to Tiggernut .
