Ok so I know everyone is in an uproar over the designer princess pins....but I was wondering. What does everyone think each pin individually will do? I know everyone and their mother is after Rapunzel, she already has a high trade to want ratio as some others seem to be loosing popularity already. I am just curious as to what you all think will happen.

*disclaimer: I am not a pin price genie and in no way know what is going to happen so don't base decisions on what I say because I'd hate for someone to miss out on grabbing a pin and then see it double in price*

With that being said, I think prices will come down with maybe Rapunzel being the exception. They are pretty...but I don't quite see what the fuss is over. Several of them have very few people wanting them. Everyone wants Rapunzel, but my guess would be that quite a few of these wants are people wanting it just because other people want it and they think they could get something good for it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some of them drop down into the $30-ish range. A couple may stay and 40-50-ish. Rapunzel may stay where she is or drop to around 60-75 or so. Again, just my guesses! To me at least, they are pretty, but don't have much appeal because they are so non-traditional. Some of them don't even look like the princess they are supposed to be so that's why I'm not all that excited about them. :dunno:

I think they will follow the usual Princess pattern. Therefore, aside from Rapunzel, Belle and Ariel will remain popular. Pocahontas and Mulan will drop, and the rest will fall in the middle.

I also think this set might also be an interesting case study in my theory of "attainability." There was quite a bit of buzz around them originally, and then with the circumstances regarding their release, I wonder how many people just "gave up" at that point.

Like most people, I got the set mainly just to have Rapunzel, Jasmine, Ariel, and Belle. The others I put on my traders but they're also on my owns because I'm torn as to what to do with the ones I didn't really want. I'm thinking that a lot of people have done the same, thinking they'd make great traders - which would be a nice thought in theory, but the trades to wants ratio just isn't there.

Either way I'm happy with my set :) keeping them all or trading some

I wanted the whole set I think they're all amazingly beautiful pins but my wife really wanted the belle after they decided to sell them at the expo I almost gave up then they came out on ebay but I just couldn't pay $50-$60 for the belle it just seems like a rip off

This.

I think Rapunzel will go for astronomical amounts, Belle will go for around 50, Ariel for around 40, and the rest 20 or lower.

I don't collect princesses but I can enjoy pretty sets. This is not one of those though. I just don't know why some of them ended up looking they way they did. Is there something wrong with Jasmine's fingers? And poor Aurora looks exactly the same with the exception of her hair being up (which does not look good).

BUT I do really think Snow White looks FANTASTIC. I love what they did with her. I would love to see her in person. :) (And she's my least favorite princess haha)

Price-wise, it seems most of us agree on the predictions.

Also, I'm gonna have to give a thumbs up to the designs of these pins though. In my opinion, Erica, I'm going to have to disagree with you  I love them because they ARE so non-traditional. We've just been bombarded with such mediocre princess set designs lately, and this set just seems to be a breath of fresh air. Each pin seems to have their own personality with the various poses and strikingly different dresses.

Totally agree with you! I am not a collector of princess pins normally and usually it's because many of them come off the same to me. But these designs just captures the essence of each princess and really bring out their unique characters. :)

They are LE150's.. And they sold out very quickly.. On eBay the asking price is already $500 for the set.. And since many of the sets seem to be broken and sold individually, my guess is that having the complete set, with original packaging, etc. will be very rare and definitely VHTF in years to come!!

I totally get what you are saying, and the dresses don't bother me so much. It is more the faces and the hair....what is up with the hair??? I agree with what Jillian said, the Snow White one is very nice and If I were to get one I think that is the one I'd want. Cinderella and Aurora though....it just doesn't look like them. I'd like the set much better if they left their faces and hair traditional and then just change the dresses. The Ariel is ok with the hair, but again with the face....just not diggin' it.

But surely the point of the set is that it's a couture / designer dress art style, hence the way the faces have been represented?

I really love the set, and loved it from the first moment I saw the pictures. I totally agree with Jon, it's a real breath of fresh air. So many mediocre princess pins are released, and finally something different. I love the artwork.

As for prices, I agree that most will probably be around the $30 - $60 price, but I think Rapunzel will go up in value. Look at the reveal conceal limited release pin! I grabbed that at $100 and have never regretted it. There were not many that appeared on ebay at all. I personally thought that the Rapunzel from this set would be listed at $150. Don't think $100 is that bad really.

I really love the Snow White one too - it's actually my joint favourite with the Rapunzel.

I am thinking that the complete set might hold around $350-$400 or maybe go up in the coming yrs a bit more. If they are single, their values are not so great because after the initial appeal fizzles out, they are just LE150 princess pins on their own.

I started collecting Rapunzel because my daugter wants her and because everybody else wants her, but I absolutely do not get the craze about her - sorry Rapunzel lovers. The movie was great, but ....

I think Aurora (yeah, my damselle) and Pocahontas look mediocre at best but more on the horrid side, Cindy looks good but not like herself at all. Ariel (so flamenco!), Jas and Snow White (have you seen that apple clutch?) are gorgeous, with Belle & Tiana following closely.

I liked the effort of designers to do something un-traditional, but it was a bit hit & miss. Not all of them made the mark.

I don't know, but I really wish people would stop panic-buying the sets so they'll come back down to that $300-350 range. $500 is ridiculous.

I know Rapunzel is going to be sold for an outragepus price in the future. I completely agree with Tanya. I paid a lot more than she did for the Rapunzel chaser, but am happy I have it. Some pins you can't wait to buy later unless you're willing to pay a much greater price.

I really like the Princess "diversity" that is shown in the set as a whole. It is the only set so far with all of them, and it shows how a princess isn't just a blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl, but rather a princess' looks and culture spread across the spectrum. Maybe that is dumb for me to think like that, but when I look at it I see that all kinds of girls are pretty and should be considered princesses. Okay, when I actually type it out I do feel really dumb for saying that, but I hope that is the way my 2 1/2 year old daughter grows up thinking- all girls, no matter what they look like or where they come from, are princesses and deserve be treated as such.

THIS!! I really hope nobody will pay that $500 that one is up for right now. These sets, I imagine would have stayed in the $350 range had nobody ever paid $375, then $400, then $425, then $450. Each time somebody does that the next person wants to list it higher. They will have no choice but to bring the price back down if people stop paying the high prices.

I really love the set. I am happy that I at least have 3 of them on the way. If I can get my hands on Ariel and Belle I will be happy although I really want the full set. I refuse to pay $500 for a $200 set that was just released though. Crazy!

I think Rapunzel will hold the most value obviously followed by Belle and Ariel. My personal favorite of the set is Snow White. I think she is gorgeous. Even though I collect Aurora pins she just does not stand out to me in this set. I just adore Snow White, Rapunzel, Belle and Ariel. I really think Mulan is pretty as well. The rest I am not crazy over but I'd still love to have that complete set. :)

:wavey:

Great Thread

It does seem as if this set is certainly 'the craze' of the moment. I think the longevity of their 'wantedness/value' will rely on how the pins hold up in person. It's simply hard to tell from the pics posted to date. I'm an Ariel fan first and foremost, but have to share that her dress doesn't seem that appealing...and she needs a haircut  It looks like she's trying to compete with Rapunzel on hair length. At least they didn't try to put her hair up in a bun or updo, like some of the other 'unlucky' princesses. Or, maybe - just maybe - I'm just trying to make myself feel better for not getting a set!

Let's all check back in 18 months and see how we did!

I'm so glad my girls are traditionalists as far as the princesses are concerned. No pressure for me to buy!

In every other hobby I have there is a rush to buy the Next Big Thing! and then prices get out of control for a bit until the next Next Big Thing hits. Then people move on and prices come down as the sellers realize that they aren't selling. Anyone remember the $700 Princess Di beanie baby?
